Well, I'm Payne, and I've been writing for about seven years. I admit, I'm quite old-fashioned and completely baffled by some of the workings here (I'm learning, though; thank goodness for FAQs). If you'd like to know anything else, feel free to ask, though according to some people I tend to be a little cryptic.

So, I look forward to reading and getting to know you good folks. :smt023

Hi Payne! Nice to see you here. :)

So, you're old-fashioned, eh? Does this mean that you like to write things on paper and such before you type it up?

And seven years! That's quite a lot... even I haven't been writing since I was 8! What sort of things did you write way back then?

Thank you, Snoink (I admit, I really like that name).

Yep, I do that. I've got a plethora of hand-written drafts. Best part is that probably no one would take the time to decipher my terrible handwriting, so they're encoded. :smt002

Well, I started out with a medieval fantasy/adventure series...and I'm still trying to salvage it. If you don't mind my asking, what did you start out with?

I started off with this fantasy story that had to do with magical Swans and such! It was really, really bad and I hand-wrote it too. I'm just starting to salvage it, after about 12 years after writing it. XD It's on YWS, if you want a looksy! But, in order to salvage it, I threw away most of the characters used (it wasn't very good!), the entire plot, and then used a different story in that same world that I thought was more interesting... and actually ended up being a much older idea (something I thought of when I was eight!) So yeah. It's been quite a ride! :D What happened in the original story still is in the back story, but it's back story now.

And yay for bad handwriting! My professor looked at my notes today and said, "Can you read this?" I said yes and he gave me full marks on it. XD

Hiya! Welcome to the forum!

And that's awesome that you've been writing for seven years, the more experience the better!
I'm pretty new here, myself. Although, I say, this community is really nice! Hope to see you around!

Haha, good deal. Sometimes professors aren't as bad as people make them out to be, eh? I'll definitely check out your story, too. It's cool that you're still working on it after twelve years.

Thanks, Aspie. And I agree with you there; this is a pretty nice place. Very welcoming, unlike a few places I've been before.

Are you any relation to Thomas Paine? Just kidding.

I can't speak for others here, but I like just about anything old. I often get frustrated when people don't have patience. It's like, life must've been much better before computer games! Try it! *finishes rant* Anyway, hello, welcome and all that.

Hello, and thanks for the welcome!

Haha, I think my heritage is more on the other side of the desk...

Indeed, I agree with you there. Ever used a typewriter? Now that is the way to write--at least, for notes and such. Gives the feeling of being a very classic writer.
And yes, it was much harder to procrastinate before computer games, eh?

You sound like a writer. 'Cryptic,' hehe. That's good thing, sorry, I just love that word :3 I'm new-ish, too, but the two biggest things I've learned about this site are:

1. Most everyone is insane (we are writers, after all).

2. People will give you honest opinions about your work, and you can't take everything negative as written in stone or your heart will turn black. Or, wait, maybe that's just me.

But we are a nice bunch here, really. Hope you have fun sharing your writing with everyone.
See you around!

Well, I'm certainly glad I sound like a writer. *Wipes sweat off brow*

Ah, yes, I had assumed everyone was a bit mad around here. I mean this in a good way, but your avatar looks a bit manic...

Very true. I'm used to negative criticism. I was told that the first draft of one of my books would 'make a good B-movie.' And that was coming from family.

Anyways, hope to see you around.

See, I got sick and tired of my family and friends saying my writing was good. They don't know anything about writing, so I came here and it was a relief to finally get some honest opinions.

Oh, yes. My avie's from Howl's Moving Castle, produced by Hayao Miyazaki (*squeal*). Howl is one of the most lovable weirdos you shall ever meet.

Very true. Sometimes family is just a little too nice when it comes to that. Have you ever gotten the dreaded, "That was a really nice story" response?

Haha, indeed. I thought that was what it was from. Excellent movie! I'm a big fan of Japanese animation.

Bleh, yes! All the time.

"Dad, what did you think of my story?"

"Uh, I thought it was very good."

"What did you like about it?"

"The writing was really good. You're so talented."

-_-

Gyaaaa!! Drives me insane!
