Welcome!!
Well, if you love writing, then you sure came to the right place. You came in the right time as well.
Right now, there are four reviewing teams that are racing to make more reviews everyday. Make sure you join! Your writing skills will probably improve because people around here are very helpful and they do their best while they review.

Welcome, welcome!
I'm back to my YWS after months of disappearance, hoping that I'd gain the immunity of books and quills against the harmful realism of our world.

In case this made no sense, I'm just saying that I'm happy I'm back!

Hi, Louise!

Yes, if you like writing and want to improve, then you have certainly come to the right place. :] I've found while being here that reviewing other peoples' writing has really helped me improve my own, because it's helped me read critically. I'm interested in being a reporter as well! It looks like a tough career, but really interesting.

And that's awesome that you like reading. Really, I think reading a lot is probably one of the most important things for learning how to write--all writers love to read, don't they?

Feel free to PM me or post on my wall if you ever need any help with anything around the site or if you want a review of anything you've written (though if you want a poem review you might be better off asking someone more knowledgeable in that area...).

See you around!

a

Hey Lou! Nice to see you here. :) And the others are right... you're definitely at the right place if you like writing and reading! :D

Anyway, just a couple of questions for you! What do you like to read in your adventures as a bookworm? Do you like the idea of electronic books (such as the Kindle, Nook, iPad)? What sorts of things do you like to write?

Have fun playing around on the site! If you have any questions, feel free to bug me on pretty much anything! :D

Hey there LouLou! Welcome to YWS and as everyone has said, this is the place for writers, writing enthusiasts, and readers too!

I absolutely love doing this (though it may seem crazy) but the best way to get to know someone is to ask them questions, is it not? So here are a few for you!

-- What are you reading right now?
-- Favorite color?
-- Favorite song or type of music?
-- What was the last thing you watched on television?
-- Fried chicken or waffles?
-- Sneakers, sandals, or platform shoes?

Random, I know! :D

And here are just a few pointers for navigating the site!
1. Make sure you use good grammar. Since this is a writing site, we try to encourage good grammar and discourage net speak.

2. Never be afraid to ask questions. YWS has gone through a lot of changes lately (and still is all of the time). I’ve been here for over two years I still catch myself having to ask questions.

3. Reviewing is seriously the best thing you can do for yourself as a writer. Plus it's a great way to make friends on the site!

Anyways, if you need anything, just ask! I’m happy to help!
Never forget who you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armor yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you.

Hi everyone!thank you for replying so soon and thank you all for offering your help and advice,I will definitely use it if and when I need to :)

Now to answer a few of your questions :P

Snoink : Hi!I do like the idea of the iPad and Kindle but using it for a long time every day could give me a head ache :) so I really prefer the traditional way. Also I really like to read and write fantasy books with mythical creatures in (mainly vampires)I have just finished reading the latest Immortals series and think they are fantastic,I can`t wait until next month when the next one is out!Another book I have recently finished is The Hobbit and plan to start The Lord of the Rings soon.

Lillymoore : Well I really like to read vampire books and lately I have been reading The Immortals series and also I have recently finished reading The Hobbit. My favorite color is mainly rose pink but I do also like many other colors.I have many different types of music that I enjoy depending on my mood i.e pop,RnB,Rock,Hip Hop ect and my favorite song at the moment is E.T by Katy Perry. The last thing I watched on Television is The Simpsons.Do I really have to choose between Fried Chicken and Waffles? yum a plate of Fried Chicken and Waffles together sounds really nice but I do believe that waffles here in England are different to waffles in the States? :) and as for the footwear question I guess it all depends on the outfit because my shoes will have to match whatever I am wearing

Well you just asked me some questions so now it`s my turn!
Okay, what does everyone else like to read?also what kind of things do you like to write?
Thanks again to everyone that commented on my post! :)

Oh oh oh questions! (:

I like reading a lot of different things. Fantasy and speculative fiction is always fun, because I like escaping into worlds that are completely different than our own, but I love historical fiction as well since if it's written well it can be like travelling in time. Have you read The Book Thief? That might be one of my favorite books ever.

What I like to write is pretty much the same as what I like to read, except that I've never written a novel. I write a lot of fantasy/sci-fi/speculative stuff, but I just wrote my first historical fiction and I had a lot of fun writing that. I also think I should try and write some poetry... but... dang, poetry's hard! :} I have a ton of respect for people who can write good poems. If you have any advice for writing poetry, I'm all ears. ^_^

Welcome to YWS! This is definitely the place to be if you love writing so much :3 it's such a great place to post your stories and get feedback and everyone here is so nice. Also, the reviews here are really helpful and will definitely help you improve with your writing skills. I know I've learned from so many people how to become better and I really love it here, though I believe I've only been here for a short time :3

Mostly everyone here is really friendly and helpful and very very welcoming. For questions on things, you can always contact a person with a green or red name, they will definitely help you with whatever it is you don't understand. Or you could PM me or anyone else as I'm sure we can help you, as well.

I love reading as well, and mostly enjoy the romance/fantasy genres. Also, those are kind of the only things I know how to write ;P I completely suck with action packed stuff. In fact, it took me three weeks just to figure out how to describe a car crash without being boring and unemotional XD

But anyway, welcome to YWS and I really hope you enjoy it here! :D

Vampire novels! Zomg. I keep trying to read those, and I keep failing. Maybe it's not my thing? I don't know! I keep trying to read them, but I get through a little bit of them and I stop because the vampires have so much passion and bloodlust that it just really weirds me out. Maybe I'm reading the wrong sort of vampire novels though... is the Immortals really passionate and bloodlusty?

As far as the Kindle goes... well... I've had to read it for hours on end, lol. But it doesn't strain my eyes or anything since it's not backlit. It feels like reading from a paper except easier? It's weird! It's a bit hard to explain if you haven't seen it, but it's not bad. Still, there are a bunch of writers who love the smell of old books... I guess you're not one of those? :P

As far as what I read and write? Well... I am kind of one of those classics girls, partly because I adore them and partly because they're really cheap (read: free) on my Kindle. And I love my Kindle. So, right now I am reading Virgil's Aeneid and the Shahnameh. They're awesome! :D The first one is kind of a continuation of what Homer wrote (and homage to Homer, if you will) whereas the Shahnameh is the huge book of Persian kings and a bunch of stories of what happened. It's amazing... so much fighting and war and stuff. I may not like vampire stories because of their blood lustiness, but I love good battle scenes!

I write mostly sci fi and fantasy, but the sci fi that I write is biotechnology based, since I am studying biochemical engineering, with an emphasis on genetics, at school. In fact, I'm about to get my degree in it in a couple of weeks! So that's awesome. :) Not a lot of aliens, but I like to play around with genetics in my story. :) Also, I love fantasy stories that resemble mythologies instead of the typical fantasy sort of quest, so if you read my work there, you'll see tons of stories within stories so it's more like a book of fairy tales than a book you can easily follow. But this is because I love reading about mythology and religion. :)

Whoah, follow up questions! I don’t get those very often! (And I suppose waffles might just be different on the other side of the pond, wouldn’t they!)

Okay, what does everyone else like to read?

I’m a reader of all sorts of things. Here on the site, I spend a good portion of my time in the poetry forums as well as the romantic fiction and other fiction areas. I always manage to find some of the most interesting and though provoking as well as heart-wrenching pieces buried those particular forums.
Outside of the forums, I’m actually a huge comedy fan! I love to read Kurt Vonnegut’s funny short stories and anything written by Christopher Moore!

Also what kind of things do you like to write?

As far as writing, I guess I’ve gone through several different stages. I started out writing fanfiction. Scary, Hermy/Draco fanfiction. But that slowly turned into romantic fiction which shifted into fantasy fiction which took a crazy wild leap when I became a Junior Mod and I started to write a lot of poetry…
