Innocence

These took forever! Because of my stinky camera, the shading kind of got lost. But it's there! Haha I might take a better picture later and then replace them. But here they are! The first one is for my mother's birthday, and the second one is for mother's day.


(It says "Happy Birthday" at the bottom, just ignore that haha)



I would really appreciate reviews and critiques or even just plain old compliments will do if you don't know what to critique on! ^.^

Ooers! You're right... the pictures are a bit dull. Not cool, camera, not cool, lol. But, maybe that's why Photoshop was invented?

Is this truer to what the picture that you drew? I fiddled with it with it on Photoshop, so hopefully it helps a little bit?





As far as the picture goes, I kind of adore the little girl, though I think her teeth look a bit weird! The flower, on the other hand, seems to be a little too perfect. What flower is it? The petals seem to be a bit thick, if that makes sense. But, they're really lovely! You're a wonderful artist.

Is the little girl you when you were younger or your sister? I am trying to figure out why you would give this to your mom for Mother's Day! Though, it is really lovely, if it doesn't have any relevance to your mom's life, then it seems a bit silly. But, seriously, I've seen moms with these sorts of sketched pictures of their daughters on the walls, lol. So cool beans!

I like the flowers... the thing is, I just like them. They're really nice, but not super effective in making me have an emotional response or something...

The little girl on the other hand...

I love her! She looks so sweet XD I love her crown, it looks really pretty and intricate, you probably spent a lot of time on it.

For whatever reason, though, she seems to have too much gums and not enough teeth, you know? Little girls do look goofy sometimes (I was a goofy looking one mysellf XD) so maybe this was intentional... nobody's perfect, and it does make her seem more human... So, yeah, change it or not. It's kool either way.

Wow, those are amazing! I'm not really an artist or much of a reviewer, but I really liked these and I do hope your mum likes! I think the flowers look absolutely beautiful =) . However, I just feel as though there is something off about the forehead, maybe it just seems a bit big, but I'm not really sure. As well as that, I thought that her gums seemed a little too... visible, I guess in her smile. She does look very cute and it's still a brilliant drawing (and I know I'll never be capable of anything at that level) =)

Hey there! I've been meaning to review more art and photography so I'm really glad that you put this up.
Alright, so here we go!

First we can start with this flower you have up. The things you did right with this shading. It's nice and I'm glad you have your flower some more depth but honestly, it needs to be darker. I'm not sure what kind of flower it and I could've provided you with a better review for this if you had given us your reference picture along with it. But the thing is, you need to make it darker in the center of the flower where the petals are coming from. It'll give the appearance of going deeper.

Also, another thing I want to point out is the smudging on this. You smudged a little too much and made all the shades blend into each other, this gave it more of 'flat' feeling even though you have different shades. Normally when drawing, I start with lights and then go dark and darker by coloring over it again and again until I get the shade I desire. So, try not to smudge too much or try not smudging at all.

Now for the girl, she's very cute. And you did quite an amazing job shading and all for a person. I know that drawing people is one heck of a difficult task but you did it quite well so I'm impressed. However, since I'm here to critique, I have a few things to note on.

Red line: This represents how the lines of your eyes are off and uneven. You should apply a line before you draw, it should be light but it should be able to give you more of a grounding on where your eyes should be placed. Also note the same thing with the eyebrows. Also, one of her eyes is darker than the other.

Pink circle: This area should be more defined and shaded to allow for some more depth. For example the nose blends in with the rest of the face and it's a bit too light. The lips are also too light and need more dimension.

Yellow stars & green Star: The yellow stars represent what parts of the picture I did like. I liked the little floral headband on her. I liked the detail that you spent on it as well. Also the shading with the hair on the second yellow star was great. It had depth and contrast along with some concentrated shading. You spend some time on it, I think, as much as I can tell. However, the green star shows that that this part of the hair could've used some more love. Used some more shading and darkness in some areas too.

All in all, the things you need to work on is to get darker in some areas. Don't be afraid to make it darker. It will help and don't smudge your work too much or it'll make it flat. You've got some amazing talent so be sure to keep drawing and keep those skills sharp. Keep up the great work and let me know if you have any questions. ^___^

And yeah, I can definitely tell that you're better with flowers than you are at drawing people. (As most people are. )

The eyes on the little girl are ever-so-slightly off-- can you see how the right (her right, our left) eye is higher than the other? And the left eye is a full oval, while the right eye is sort of like a crescent moon.

I'm not entirely sure about the way you pronounced the (is there a term for them?) lines running from her nose to down by her mouth. (You know, the ones by her cheeks? Ugh, there's really no good way to describe this. ) She looks a bit as though she has jowls....... (I'm using WAY too much.)

....I kinda like the eyebrows.


I like the headband of flowers--wish I could see the little details more clearly. (The one on the far right (her right) looks kinda like a lizard with a hood or some sort of parrot. XD)

An her eyes have life in them! Good job. That's hard to depict, I know.

I agree with Snoink about the mouth. It looks a tad bit strange-- I think the lips may have something to do with that. The left side of her lip is thicker than the right-- is that how it is naturally?

As an aside, I've always wanted curly blonde hair. So I kinda love this picture.

I think the drawings are amazing. The flowers are very beautiful, and the girl looks very much real. The only thing that bothers me is the girl's teeth. They kind of look crooked and the gum looks like they are coming out too much. If that's how it was supposed to be that way, then good job!

The first one is so soft and pretty, just like flowers! I like how you didn't go overboard with shading. Everything just looks so... gentle. And it has a really calming effect to me.
The second- Amazing Really, just the way you drew the lines in her hair and the detail on the wreath and the light in her eyes is incredible. Only, I have to repeat what everyone is saying about the gums. It's really weird xD And her top lip is extremely thin, even if it is drawn back in a smile. I think it would be an easy fix to replace some of them gum with lip. Then you'd be good to go!

Hi, Mickixoxo. Love the avvie. And wow, I can't wait to give this some comments.

The first one, I really, really like. If you're having trouble with the cam, taking a picture of the drawing would be better if done in bright light, direct sunlight maybe. But it's OK, we could still see the shadings, which were honestly pretty done nicely. I like the way the petals came out to be so soft in the picture. It looks somewhat dreamy.

The second one is also nice. I'd have to nitpick though on the eyes, which were not so much aligned. (The only excuse for that if the person really looks like that.) Being careful with the alignment of the eyes has its own reward: Your drawing wouldn't look awkward and unrealistic. Another thing is the gums. It came off as a bit awkward because it seems like it's bulging out or something like that. And wait, I can't decipher between the gums and the teeth. I'm now confused.

But this one has its strengths. I love it that you took the time to add so much details on the band on her head. And the hair. Wow, lovely. I get lazy at those parts and you're diligent with it so it looks so nice! KEEP DRAWING!

Flowers:
First off these look very soft and calming.
but it lookes to me that you smudged? I'm just gonna go with thats correct. As a fellow artist here's some advise: When you smudge, weither with your finger or a napkin, it makes all the shadow look as if its all one tone and like your looking through a screen. I never noticed till my art teacher pointed this out to me.

Also content is HUGE in piece of work, its really good to make sure you have multiple pieces of content in one work to give good compisition. Darker values give more intence emotion and give more realistic feelings.

Your highlights in the flowers looked amazing. But im not sure of the light source and where it is.

Girl:
A little too much gum to tooth ratio. Even if it really looks that way, it makes the work not as appealing. Soemtimes we need to alter photos to make it fit how we need it.
And the eyes, the shaping was good but when you draw eyes, they're much darker than you think and the pupil isnt as bold and dosnt stand out as much. Also her face is a little lopsidded (I ALWAYS have that problem when drawing eyes)

Her nose and smile lines are REALLY GOOD. The way you drew them, you could tell this girl was young and had not fully grown into her face yet. The shading looks good on it also.
The lips and the chin, her whole facial structure looks good, her face shape matched perfectly.
Her hair, other than the part at the top of the head, was done very well. You can clearly see her curly hair and how it cascades and the shadows on it.

The light source and eyebrows are really good. I would like to see more value range with the shadow but its a good work.
