Undergrowth brushed by snow.

This is my first attempt at photography, so please be gentle... Well actually, no, it's fine, I can handle it. I edited them slightly and I KNOW they are cliche... But well, I figured I had to begin somewhere. Now, you have my permission to tear them apart.

These pictures are really good, except for the last one which I didn't really like. The first picture I like because it's a landscape and I like landscapes. The second one would be really bland but you managed to get the snow on it, and that adds some flavor. And the last one is just to bland. All I see when I look at it is a dead log and you didn't seem to take too long on trying to make it look good. If I were you I would get rid of the last one.

Hello there, theotherone! Let me start by saying that I am incredibly jealous of the snow you have in your area. Where I live, we're lucky to get even a sheet of ice -- ah, the desert, always warm. Anyways, I love winter pictures because of that, so these really brightened my day!

The first picture of the snowy path is a bit boring to me, actually; I realize it was some of the previous reviewer's favorites, but, I just don't like it all too much. My favorite part is most certainly how it's dark in the foreground, and yet through the opening in the trees, you can see a bright, open clearing. That's just spectacular, if you ask me. However, I think I would have gone with a different angle on this photo, as the large pine on the right side of the photograph leads my attention away from the actual path, which is the subject of the photo. The pine tree is just so demanding of space, so I probably would have done a more centered view to the path. Also, the branches look really sharp, and that's from editing, I'm assuming. One thing to watch when you edit photos is that the sharpness doesn't become too much; however, depending on your hosting site, they can alter the sharpness a bit, like flickr, for instance. You just have to keep that in mind when editing.

The second photo was decent at best. I loved how the background was a little blurred compared to the street lamp, but that's about all I liked. The twig behind the lamp is very distracting, and the falling snow was captured in such an odd way -- that is falling snow, right? It looks kind of edgily blurred in the background by the one pine tree. Also, I dislike the angle once more. I feel like the lamp is too centered, and it kind of bothers me that we're looking up at the lamp, for some reason. Also, the whole photo has a sort of "haze" to it, and I cannot be sure if you added that in post-processing or if the photo was like that straight of the camera.

The final photo was actually my favorite, as over-contrasted as it might happen to be. The tree trunk, if that's what is, is an interesting subject, and everything in the photo is just so bright and lively that it almost makes me see winter in a different way. This is the least cliche of all your photos, as well, so bravo with that!

Overall, you do have some potential in the photography area. Keep messing around with angles and metering, but be sure in the future to not over-sharpen your photos. Editing is tricky business. You can turn out with wonderful effects, or you can end up with a photo even more hideous than the SOOC shot you disliked in the first place. But, have fun with it! These pictures were nice. It looked like you had a good camera to work with as well. I like the second one the best. I am not ashamed to say, that it honestly reminded me of the lampost in Narnia.

These are some nice pictures, and they definitely embrace the spirit of winter. I'm jealous that you were able to take such nice shots; I've tried a few times to take some winter pictures, but to no avail. They're very atmospheric, and I especially like the second one. Just a few comments for each...

#1 -- This a nice picture, and I like how the light is visible but we can barely see it, and I also like how we can't see what's beyond the hill. I had two things that I wanted to mention about this one. The first is that it feels somewhat cluttered, and I can't tell if we're supposed to be focusing on the tree or the light where the trail ends. The second is that this isn't framed very well; specifically, the edge of black on the right side is distracting. We don't need to see all of that tree; that way it would bring the light more to the center and we'd have a clear focus so there isn't light in the middle of the trees, but rather light framed by trees.

#2 -- I like this one especially! Have you ever sen the first Chronicles of Narnia? This is what this picture reminds me of. I like the snow up top, and I like how this was taken in day time. My problem with it is that seems a little bit cluttered. The bar at the edge is distracting, and so is the wire, and this takes away from the focus and plain beauty of the lamp. When you try to take shots in the future, try to be aware of things can potentially detract from the main focus. It's also a bit distracting about how the photo ends cutting right through the lamppost.

#3 -- This is probably my favorite. I love how the snow is caught on the trees, and I love how the angle is slightly titled. My main critique would be regarding how this cut off and framed; I feel like the tree bark is an afterthought, even though it's supposed to be the focus -- try to get more of that in there!

Overall, these are good pictures! You have talent, so keep it up! Feel free to PM me if you have any further questions regarding this review.
