Hellooooo there,
I'm Cal, I'm 19 and I currently inhabit a quiet little city called London. If I had to describe myself in just a few words I'd say: dashingly handsome, devilishly charming and absolutely hilarious. did I mention humble?

On a more personal and serious note I'm here because I have a passion for words, I love them; their sounds, their form, their potential, their creativity. I love everything about them.

I love the way you can make a sentence dance off the page, waltzing around your mind, springing about like a song. I love the way you can pluck at syllables like strings on a guitar, flowing melodically into each other, each time lifting you around, swirling you into a whirlwind of emotion creating something so beautiful yet simple. it's ironically something I've yet to find a single word to summarise.

But my biggest weakness when it comes to writing is actually getting the words down somewhere; I have a habit of editing and keeping a mental log of all the things I want to get down. which wouldn't be such an issue if my memory was a little better at remembering these things. Hopefully with this place I can begin to keep a physical record and build upon it.

so yeah, that's me...

I must say, you've come to the right place. Why don't you jot your ideas down instead of keeping a mental record of things? It would be easier. Sometimes I write down certain thoughts or ideas in a notebook so I don't forget them. Otherwise, I end up writing and forget that there was something I wanted to put in after I'm 5k into the story and it derails the whole thing.

Oh yes, I'm also dashingly handsome, devilishly charming and absolutely hilarious and humble.

Hello Rachel,
I write fiction; mainly drama, elements of romance, and I'm also partial to a little horror and tragedy. I guess if I had to categorize myself to a theme it would be psychology; Emotions, thoughts, imagination. I like the mind. There is no limitations with the mind, apart from those which you place upon yourself. it's a beautiful thing.

Well my favourite Writers' is sort of a long list; Edgar Allan Poe, Tom Wolfe, Hunter S. Thompson, Oscar Wilde, Charles Bukowski, Chuck Palahniuk, Lord Byron to name a few. And it's the same for my favourite books; On the Road, The Great Gatsby, The Alchemist, Interview with the Vampire, Of Mice and Men. I read alot actually, on average about 3 books a week.

Oh, and neither. It's all about the teacup pigs.

I imagine you're a crazy cat women. What do you write?

I hear you, mate. I really do. I have about 8 notebooks actually, it's just a bad habit I'm in the process of breaking. 5,000 words sounds like you've got a clear idea of what you're doing then, so without prying what are you writing then?

Well everything good comes in moderation, with exception of chocolate of course. I'll definitely be giving you a shout at some point, this place is a bit like a maze.

I imagine you're a crazy cat women. What do you write?

Crazy dog woman. I don't actually have the dogs yet, mind, but I adore them. And I'd be lying if I said I didn't adore cats, too. Or teacup pigs. Or most animals.

As for what I write... fantasy. Almost strictly fantasy. Because I love it, although its potential has been largely brushed over in favor of either Tolkien derivations (not that there's anything wrong with Tolkien) or cheap escapism. As far as I'm concerned, though, what better way to explore the question of humanity when humans are juxtaposed against fantastical beings and fantastical elements that the "real world" lacks?

Well everything good comes in moderation, with exception of chocolate of course.

Something tells me that unless you have strong objections to fantasy or frogs, we're going to get along famously.

Wow, eight notebooks? That's quite a collection of thoughts, I must say. I have two or three.
Hmm, maybe I overdid it with the 5k, huh? Well, recently I've been writing a urban fantasy novel about a banished demon from Hell who tries to overthrow the Devil himself. Perhaps, a similarity to a runaway convict who wants to steal the president's seat? I forgot to add a main idea to the plot line in the beginning. And well, it kinda screwed a few scenes up and it's quite hectic to go back and fix them. But, you gotta do, what you gotta do, eh?

Holy penguins! I love chocolate with all my heart. =D

It seems like you and me will get along just fine. Yes, it is ironic that there is no word to summarize the beauty of a word. It's impossible, preposterous...and if it ever happened I'd probably stop writing. Wouldn't be any point without the magic.

You say you like the Alchemist? I recently read that book, and the feelings I felt afterwards were indescribable. If you like that, I recommend you try The Famished Road by Ben Okri, although that's a tad longer. Trust me though; it's worth it. That book is a rollercoaster for the mind.

Anyway, Pink, Rach and the others beat me to it, but if you ever need anything shoot me a PM.

Yup, I loved that book. Take away my man card if you want, but I am completely unashamed that I had a tear or two in my eyes at the end. I thought it was beautiful.

Can I call you laser-shark? Personally I think laser-shark may be the most awesome name in the universe.

Well isn't that a lovely little summary, If I'm completely honest I haven't read too much fantasy. I quite ignorantly pressumed it was all just escapism, but I'm open minded enough to give it a try. Do you have any reccomendations?

Haha, actually I'm ashamed to admit most of them are only about half of notes. That sounds pretty cool, I'd love to have a read sometime.

I love this thread! Teacup pigs, Penguins and Chocolate. What more could you want from life!?! Penguins are literally my favourite animals in the world, mainly for the very simple reason they look like butlers. That is literally it.

Camden Town, eh? I've never been there exactly, but I have been to Brent Cross nearby (then again, so has everyone in the area with an Oyster and ten pounds in their pocket).

Oooh. Do I detect a hint of Twi-phobia? Twilight is rather bestial though and full of sweaty wolf beings who can't keep their clothes on. Not to mention that hint of paedophilia in the last book...am I the only one who things that a grown man should not already have plans to mate with a newborn baby in the next seven years?

Greetings, londoncalling, I'll call you London. I don't normally comment on welcome threads, but I'm willing to admit you intrigue me quite a bit. I know it's within reason to say you are definitely a fan of The Clash a good ol' British Punk band. I'm a fan of punk music myself, some of the oldies like Dead Kennedys, Chumbawamba, NOFX, Choking Victims, Left Over Crack ect ect. And many more new bands, like Strike Anywhere, Anti-Flag, Good Riddance, Thought Riot, Destruction Made Simple, Less Than Jake and much more.

I find your favourites books very good, for instance I too loved Of Mice and Men, it such a perfect book and so sad, it is honestly a masterpiece.

One of our residents Mods may like ya for ya fav animal being the Teacup Pig, she's absolutely fanatical about them.

My advice is write when ya can but always keep it on com, and sometimes will go back to it, others you won't. All depends, for me I mainly write horror, fantasy and thriller, I also write poetry my favourite being Wilfred Owen.

I know you'll fit in great here, and be sure to pop into the chatroom, we don't bite, and we're a pretty regular bunch, with some newbies coming, but overall, we encourage you to join in, we've various differences, but overall we're united as writers.
