Face Cup

I had to do this for art class in high school, but at the time I failed miserably. This second attempt was my making amends to myself for doing so badly the first time by doing well while attending Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp the summer before my senior year. Or maybe it was the summer after. I don't remember. But anyways...

This made me giggle. I like the ears on it. Reminds me of a monkey, or even a homo erectus. I also love the expressionless eyes. Makes it enjoyable to view.

Gasp! I remember doing these in third grade! Of course, mind looked really...disturbing, actually. I think it had green hair and blue lips or something strange like that...oh, just looking at this brings back so many memories! I totally forgot about elementary art class and how fun it was. Thanks for giving me a flashback that I had lost in my own memories. That looks really good, especially when comparing it to mine.

Heh, this is so cute. I wish I could have done cool projects like this in Art Class! The coolest thing I remember doing was clay sculptures of food in sixth grade, lol. Just wondering, do you drink out of this or just keep it as a piece of art?

I like the eyes and the lips; they seem really clean and precise. They eyebrows, however, do not. They're so thick and lumpy, and in addition, so far above the eyes that don't really line up and seem to be in proportion with them. This gives an odd quality where you can't tell if it's supposed to be hair or eyebrows; I had to look two or three times before figuring it out. Other then that, the nose and the ears are nice and it makes the face feel very neat.

That being said, the rest feels a bit off. I know clay is hard to shape, but it feels really shaky and sloppily done; it doesn't have the same precision as the rest. Out of curiosity, were you trying to model this after Aztec sculptures? Because this is what this reminds me of, lol. I think your decision to use minimal color was a wise one because it really adds to the feel of the sculpture.

I've never actually been very good at clay work (hence my first failed attempt at this art project - not even sure where THAT one ended up, but who cares?), but I've always liked it anyways.... Clay just feels so NICE, and I zone out when working with, especially if I like my work...

Nope, I don't drink out of it, I just have it. If I remember right - aren't you supposed to do something to the inside of it if you want it to retain water? Or was that - you're supposed to NOT do anything to the inside of it? How sad is it that I don't remember?

Yeah, half the reason I used minimalistic color - I used a clear glaze for most of it - it was just such a nice color when it came out of the kiln!

You should see the tea pot I 'tried' to make in art class.
I think I will stick with sketching. lol.
It's good though, and makes me think of the Aztecs. I guess there people had big ears! lol. Jk.
