Are PC Gamers better than Console Gamers?

For everyone who plays video games, I thought this was pretty interesting:

In short, Microsoft was at one point thinking of combined Xbox live with a Windows live; that way you could play something like COD4 with console and PC gamers at the same time. But they cancelled it because, evidently, console gamers suck. The PC gamer won out against the console gamer every single time.

I completely agree with the first comment -- it's so much easier to shoot someone in the head by pointing with a mouse than using an analog stick.

Then again, console gamers are usually a lot more casual players. PC gamers spend lots of money building up a super rig to pursue their gaming dreams. Many consolers don't take it so seriously.

I also agree with that first comment, and firestarter's note on building a super rig. In my experience I think that not all PC gamers actually play the types of games consoles feature. A lot of PC gamers play the strategy genre although there is still good number that play the first person shooters.

I wouldn't mind the mixing of PC/Xbox servers, and I doubt it would make any noticeable changes to the community.

I am an avid PC Gamer, I play everything from RPGs to FPSs to RTSs. I agree with Firestarter's point that it is far easier to shoot someone by pointing at them with a mouse in at RTS. Just as it is far easier to move a character with the WASD keys in an RPG, or select units with a mouse in RTS.

I do however own an Xbox 360 and I am dreadful at it, I can't shoot anyone on it to save my life. The only games I'll play on a console (and the only ones I believe are any better on a console) are sports games and third-person action adventure games (i.e Assassin's Creed). I'd say platform games as well but I don't like or play any of them.

Recently I've been playing a lot of Bad Company 2 on the PC and I've got pretty good at it, I've also tried to play it on a friend's PS3. From what I've seen from my own playing on both systems the gameplay is completely different. Everything that is done on the PC is done quicker. I would honestly say that the top console players would perform about as well as average PC gamers when it comes to FPSs.

That said I have to agree with Firestarter's point again, most console gamers are casual players. They are often not gamers at all, just people who play Modern Warfare while they're bored. PC Gamers are often more serious. I, for example, upgrade my at least one part of my PC every year, often when I can't afford to. I've even upgraded it just so I could play a game (damn you, Crysis!)

Yes, they are. I am a convert from consoles to PC gaming, and I love it here. Freedom to do what you want when you want for free (no pirating, just look for free to play games and open source games). We have the most involved communities, most quality titles, and indie developers constantly shipping out new, unique, and cheap games. We are more skilled (besides the mouse-is-better-than-analog-stick thing), are more friendly (when was the last time someone told you "good game" without cursing you out, or the other way around?), and we have the internet to our advantage.

I once heard a story about an FPS that was released to a Sega console and the PC. The PC gamers found a way into the Sega version's separate servers, and the console gamers simply could not win against them due to lack of skill.

In my opinion, the Xbox is for people who are not really, truly gamers. It doesn't make you a bad person or anything, but if you want to see what real, friendly, competition (instead of people swearing and yelling every second) is, switch to PC.
