~Kaine~

Most of the neighborhood was either at the skate park or worrying about their money, but that didn't strike my interest at the moment. I walked down the road, until I came across the basket ball court, I practiced my free throws for a while, the hot sun was beaming down on me, I was sweating. I took off my shirt, I could feel the relief as I threw my shirt to the side.

~Rose~

The wind blew my long hair back, and some of my green hair over my eyes, as I skated. Grabbing the bottom of the board, I slung my body around, flipping, then released the board as I landed perfectly. I heard Becca yell "Hey" she slowly walked to the park, I laughed as she head-banged to her music as usual. When she got to the skate park the automatically began skating. I caught up to her, and kept pace beside her, "Hey." I said smiling.

Jessie

He chuckled, watching Cassandra as she hit the back ramp, the largest one there. She was so passionate about the sport, she hadn't even heard him! He headed for the one beside her, climbing up to the ramp. At least he had someone to skate with; and more people were coming into the park, including...

Wait, who was this kid, looking like a total twerp? He was watching everyone cluelessly, trying to mount the board backwards. His foot was on the back of the board, and obviously at an uncomfortable angle. A newbie, then...if not just a rich kid being a dumb-ass.

If he mounts like that on a ramp, he's gonna break his neck, Jessie thought, diving into the ramp and getting ready for some ollies and grinds.

Luke

It was a brilliant day in the neighborhood; sunny, cloudless, a little breezy, warm... Perfect weather for a party. And he hadn't had anyone over to his house in a couple days...

He drove past the skate park and saw a small crowd gathering there. Skaters, but still; they were a little bit more his type of company, willing to take risks and show off and have a good time. And then there were a couple of his classmates, standing by the side.

Luke floored it, making the engine of his Camaro roar as he drove past, hitting the loop and turning around. He skid to a park on the other of the road and clambered out.

"What's up, people?" he asked cheerfully, rhetorically.

Miles

Miles had no idea what he was doing out there. Some kid had warned him that he was on the board backwards. What? he had thought. You can get on this thing backwards? He hopped off immediately and watched someone else get on there board. He copied them as well as he could and decided that he would try out some of the smaller ramps first. nothing to dangerous.

If he didn't do it right, he knew he would go home looking worse for wear, which would just mortify his mother. She would be clucking around him for hours if he came home all banged and bruised. Maybe he wouldn't purposefully hurt himself after all. He walked up a ramp and some girl he didn't know looked at him menacingly. It would've been more intimidating if she didn't look so harmless.

Cassandra was at the top of a ramp and he went to go join her. "Hey how do you do this?" he asked, genuinely curious. It seemed so effortless when she did it.

"Just, you know, get used to it and stuff." She didn't like Miles, he could tell. She acted like he had the plague at school and now was no different.

"If I die doing this, it's your fault." Here goes nothin', he thought as he positioned his board to go down the ramp.

I climbed the fence and dropped to the pavement, arms folded, scowling. "If you don't feel like getting hurt, I suggest you get your pretty car and you out of here, Blondie." I said before jumping the fence again and launching into a mad dash.

I did not want any more rich kids flaunting their pretty little selves and all their wealth on my turf. I snarled a little, deep in my throat, and popped an ollie straight off. I grinned as I landed, force rocketing through my bones. With a short, soft, "Whoo!" I dipped down and picked up my speed.

There was literally nothing in this world that made me feel better than a good run in the bowl.

After a good five minutes or so, I glided over the edge and back to my area. It was mine, and strictly so. No one was to enter the area, nor attempt to steal it. Close to the corner, front edge, directly behind the fence. All mine. I propped my board up beside me and closed my eyes, trying not to beat everyone here- save Davey- unconscious. Lord knows I could do it.

And lord knows I was still mad enough to.

Macey~

Macey was on the phone, skating one of the smaller ramps. She had gotten a buisness call in the middle of the bowl, and was forced to get out to take it. Nobody was on the mini ramp, so she was good. "No, I need an obstruction wrench, not a monkey wrench. The shop had hundreds of those, but only two obstuction wrenches, so we need more." The man of the other line was arguing over what supplied they needed to order.

As she skated, however, she couldn't keep her eyes off the beautiful camero her brother had walked up to. God, that'd be one hell of a racing car with the right horsepower kicking. She sighed and continued her argument before handing up and sliding off the mini ramp.

Macey skated passed her brother, sure to knock him off balance, and received a slap in the head in return. She laughed softly and shot towards the vert ramp, hitting it immediately. At first, she pulled a sex change, and then, coming up on the other side with some amazing air, she went for a Phillips 66. She came back down perfectly, and, skating by Blayne's 'area' she rolled her eyes. The Queen of Brindfield Skate Park herself. Well... at least that's what everyone called her. She was cool, but her attitude around this place needed an adjustment.

She hit the rail, did a quick grind and then an ollie, and answered her phone again for the fifth time that day.

Mitchel~

Striding over to Luke's car, Mitchel grinned. Blayne, the queen, rammed his shoulder before walking back into the skatepark. "Don't let her get to you, she's a..." He stopped when his saw his little sister hanging up her phone.

"I wasn't planing on it," Luke laughed, Mitchel cocking his neck to crack it. "You got plans tonight?"

"Nah, everyone around here wants to celebrate graduation with their family. Pretty stupid if you ask me." Macey skated back and shoved Mitchel, causing him to stumble. He smacked her in the back of the head in a brotherly fashion before walking back to Luke.

"Rae!" I exclaimed, grin spreading across my face. We began to skate the perimeter of the park so we could focus on talking, rather than dodging the other skaters. "How goes the life?"

"Oh, you know," She began, nodding her head slightly. "Same old stuff. But it's good." She waved hello to Jessie in passing.

I nodded in acknowledgment. She tended to give a variant of the "same" answer. She was a super nice person, and I liked her, but she came off as a bit...mysterious. I surveyed the crowd that had gathered. A lot of the regulars, and some rich kid posers. Like that blonde girl. I couldn't place her name. It was something like Alessandra or Cassandra or something sickeningly stuck-up like that. Mentally shrugging, I remarked, "There's quite a few people here today."

"I know. And that girl...Cassandra...she seems to have gotten Blayne riled up," Rae remarked in her uniquely observant way.

I glanced at Blayne as we skated by her area. She stood there, arms crossed, the picture of barely-stifled hostility. I decided then, seeing her the way she was, maybe the time for keeping my distance was over. After all, she was my kind. When she calmed back to normal-Blayne, I might approach her. Though, I had to wonder. Would she interpret it as a sign of weakness, and ruin my hard earned reputation. I wasn't going to deny it: If Blayne was the queen, I was the princess. Or maybe, just maybe, the queen herself could use an ally, maybe even...a friend?

I sat down in my area -the throne that was a smooth, spraypainted square of concrete- determinedly. I closed my eyes and leaned my head back, hugging my board. I was hit with a wave of regret- the closest thing I had to a friend here was Becca, and that was only because we had a sort of truce.

I was completely and utterly alone.

I shuddered and opened my eyes, pulling my knees up. I bit my lip, which was starting to tremble. Uh-uh. Oh no. Don't you dare cry. Despite my hardest pleas, I felt a cool tear slip through my lids. Shocked, I touched my cheek, just to see if it was real. It was.

I stared at my fingers. It had been exactly nine years since I'd cried. When my mom died, I cried. When my dad left, I cried. And now, realizing none of the people I loved loved me, I cried. I shuddered and closed my eyes, burying my face in my folded arms. I was not going to let any of them see me cry.

And I knew none of them would tell me it was okay.

Miles

He stopped before going down. The girl that had sneered at him was sitting alone. He could see that her shoulders heaving, but she probably thought he was a poser. But Miles was nothing if he wasn't a gentleman. He flipped his board up and started to walk towards her. Some kid that he didn't know stopped him.

"That's Blayne's turf. I wouldn't mess with the queen of the skate-park if I was you."

"I've got this dude," Miles replied. She couldn't be that bad, could she? He sat down next to her like he was a pro at comforting crying girls and he did this type of thing all the time. "Are you alright?" he asked. She looked up at him with tear-stained cheeks and bloodshot eyes.

I took a shuddering breath and wiped my eyes. "You know what? I'm not." I said sharply, smiling tightly. "Now if you know what'll keep you safe, try to figure out how to skate, and get. Out. Of. My. AREA." And with that, I got up, board in hand, and launched myself into the bowl. It was my strong point. I was good at ramp, but put me in the bowl, and you'll double that.

After about a minute, I gave up. I was trembling too violently to do anything perfectly. I saw Cassandra giggling, and I was now shaking with rage as well as sadness. I returned to my square and pulled on my hoodie, pulling up the hood. My face was now in shadow. Good.

I rubbed my knees, bruised and with a few scabs, with calloused hands. I tightened my shoelaces and suddenly felt very small. I dropped my legs and arms, trying to look normal. Everyone knew when I was upset, I curled up. Let them think the opposite. I mentally slapped myself.

Get it together, Woods. You are Blayne Woods. You are tough. You are the Queen here.

With thought determinedly set in my system, I grabbed my board and glided into the bowl once more.

Cassandra Trestice:

Two hundred thirty-seven: the number of glances she'd gotten from boys in the last hour and a half she'd spent at the skate park, riding the biggest ramps with the most style anyone could muster when their two feet were landing a side spin.

Cassandra grinned at Jessie, and then let her eyes wander to every other boy in the park, flashing them each a smile as well. Most of them returned a smile--even the ones who had a girl by their sides. Cass smirked, and let her eyes roam the rest of the park.

The Queen of Brinfield was off to the corner--and were those tears that Cassandra saw? She snorted; as if she cared what the Female Dog of Brinfield felt.

Soon enough, the Queen was up and back in the skate bowl; and Cass didn't know why, but a sigh of relief escaped her glossed lips.

Skating changed a girl. Especially a rich girl.

Miles

Miles felt horrible, but not because of what Blayne had said. He felt like he'd failed himself. He was a natural charmer; he wasn't used to girls being angry at him. He knew that that boy wasn't kidding what he'd said to leave her alone. She was a natural bitch, and with the way she was acting she didn't deserve any friends. Miles would show her; he would show them all. He wasn't a poser, and he would be the best.

He saw Cassandra laughing at Blayne and he felt sick. That was what the skaters probably thought of him. They thought he was snobby, malicious, and a poser because no matter what she said Cassandra was doing it for show. He watched Blayne as she skated around the park, and tried to copy her. He picked himself off the ground a few times and brushed himself off to try again. He was going to do this.

I needed to punch something.

Badly.

Because if the increasing amount of preps in my park -although it wasn't mine, I corrected- wasn't infuriating me, Cassandra Trestice was. The next time she giggled or swung her hips more than was necessary, I swear she was getting a black eye. However, I did not want to get sued, and therefore was concentrating more on my carve than Cassandra.

A snarl ripped out of me as I pulled a 360. I felt... right. This was my domain. Not the park, per se, but the bowl? And my square? Mine, and strictly so. I caught a glimpse of the boy from earlier, trying his best to get himself going. I sighed and skated over.

"If you want to get anywhere, you have to stop closing your eyes. And don't copy me- each person has their own style, their own flair, that works best for them. You have to find yours." I said before skating off, the hints of a blush creeping up on me. I carved up the side, popping once just to feel the air again.

No feeling like skating, that's the absolute truth.

Macey~

Macey was skating again, and was getting irritated by Cassandra's constant smiling and silent flirting. Personally, her brother had stared at the girl one too many times. Thou shalt not harm another skater purposely. The third rule on the sheet in the skate shop beside the skate park flashed through her mind. Heh, she wasn't going to hurt her on purpose... or at least, wouldn't let it look like that.

You're a tough cookie Mace, you can take a couple of bumps and bruises.

Macey laughed at herself.

Oh how insane she must have seemed just then, with her head thrown back as a short, maniacal laugh sprung from her lips. She, however, could careless. It was time to teach the little rich girl a lesson. Usually, on the course Cassandra was on, only two people could skate without any problem. Three would cause an accident.

Let's just say... it slipped your mind.

Macey smirked and pulled her beanie down, over one eye for some effect, and threw herself onto the course, sailing down it blindly.

A scream and that's all it took for Macey to know she was on target. A body slammed into her, knocking her off her board, as well as Cassandra off her own. Macey hissed when her skull slammed against the concrete, but looking up seemed to make the pain go away. Cassandra was holding her leg, and a large abbrasion had appeared, huge and bloody.

Cassandra's scream had gotten everyone's attention, and Macey was easily hiding a smug smirk.

Cassandra Trestice:

Crap. Crap, crap, crap!

Cassandra cried out in pain, and at once, all eyes were on her. At this moment though, the thought was barely uplifting. That female dog of a girl, Macey had purposely knocked into her. Cassandra wasn't going to take bull-crap from anybody. As Jessie and Mitchel rushed to her side, Mitchel throwing a disgusted look at his sister, Cassandra put an arm over each of their shoulders for support and stared straight at Macey.

The one word she directed at Mitchel's sister was mean, harsh, and it came out just as Cassandra wanted it to--full of venom. No one messed with a Trestice. As her father always said, Don't mess with the bull if you can't take the horns. The word that had escaped her pink, full lips was the b-word, and she said it without restraint.

And with that, she nodded towards Mitchel and Jessie, who were looking at her hesitantly.

"You okay?" They both whispered to her.

She nodded. "That girl needs to be taught a lesson though. I'll spare her, Mitchel, but only because I adore you--don't get that look, Jessie, I adore you, too--and I don't want to get on your bad side."

Cassandra added, "But, Mitch, your sister really is a female dog."

As soon as I heard the scream, I fell from my incredibly high 360, and knocked my head on the concrete. I felt a little dizzy, but managed to sprint to the ramp, skateboard in tow. I pretended to trip and "fell" next to Macey. Surveying Cassandra (who was blasting out rapid-fire French) I tapped Macey's shoulder.

She turned around and flinched. I shook it off and beamed. "You're a genius, Macey Love," I said under my breath, clapping her on the shoulder. "Oh, and it helps to do simpler air stunts if your head really hurts." I added, slipping off to do just that.

I stumbled a little with my carve, feeling a more than a little lightheaded. I shook my head and pushed off again, launching into a kickflip. When I landed, I swayed a bit on my board. I braked almost immediately, doubled over, hands on my knees. I felt like I might puke. I carefully climbed back to my square and lowered myself.

Drinking in some Sprite, I saw that Cassandra and saw at least three of my guys, more possibly, crowded around her, tending to her. I growled, but the effort brought up another bubbling wave of nausea. I peeled off my hoody and gulped in air.

Something was wrong.
