"Recommend a TV Show" Thread!

Hey there!

Welcome to the Recommend a TV Show! thread. In fact, it could be compared to Ronsil, due to the idea that it does exactly what it says on the tin... well in this case the title.

Anyway, all you do is one after another recommend a TV show and tell us a little bit about why you found it incredible, interesting, so bad it was brilliant, crossing the line, inspiring, hilarious, juvenile, unique, fun, lively or trumendous. Whatever flows your boat really.

It'll inspire people to watch new things. Well, I hope it will anyway. :]

I'll start.

I recommend Mock The Week.
Why? It's the epicentre of topical humour, starring some of the greatest comedians of all time in a whirlwind of stand up challenges, observational whacky banter and a great bit of cross the line humour to tempt the audience. Made by the same person who created Whose Line is it Anyway?, this truly is humour at it's beauty point.

I recommend Red Dwarf.
It's one of the most successful and funny British shows that blends sci-fi drama with humour. Aside the Flanderizing problems in Series VIII, it's set for a successful new series after an excellent three-part special. :3

I second both of the above.

And I personally suggest:

The IT Crowd.

I've sat here a while trying to describe it's genius. I can't. It's funny. Very funny. If you're a fan of British sit coms, then, really, you should be watching this already.

Black Books and Father Ted

...to add to a Graham Lineham palate. The first is brilliant, set at a second-hand bookshop, feat. Dylan Moran, Bill Bailey, and Tasmin Greig; the second is set in Ireland, feat. Dermot Morgan, Ardal O'Hanlon, and Frank Kelly as three of the least priestly priests of possibly all time.

Black Books is one of the top comedies ever.

I'd also suggest Top Gear for simply being the most entertaining car program middle-aged men mess about I have ever seen. Apparently it's the most worldwide sold broadcasting concept and the biggest program on BBC2

Babylon 5

Move over Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galatica and Stargate: Babylon 5 is the best of the tv sci-fis, great character superb constistency, awesome plot lines, both side and major. Amazing actors and actresses, real emotional masterpiece, such political intrique between all the races, no real idea of good and evil it's shades of grey, such variety of characters and realistic alien races. I can't say more about this, I love it.

I love Black Books, and Father Ted

One more recommend is Blackadder

Where to begin, it rose Rowan Atkinson career, really shined with wit and epic quotes. I have to put this here for sheer genius and scope of it.

Black Books, The IT Crowd and Father Ted are all made of pure genius. As is Blackadder! :3

Another one I'd suggest is Skins, mainly because it's my username. Therefore, it's amazing. Plus, it involves drunken teenagers.

I'll probably be back with some more recommendations... sometime...

Being Human is an absolutely amazing show with brilliant writing and a small cast, making its characters the centre of attention. It's advertised as being about a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost sharing a house in Bristol, England, but seriously, it's so much more than that. There's even a Vampires Anonymous in the second season.

All these lovely British TV shows and I have almost nothing to add. D:
My favorite TV show is Community, which centers around a study group at Greendale Community College. The main character is Jeff Winger (the guy in my avatar ) who was disbarred because he printed his Columbia degree off the internet, but other members of the group include an ameteur filmmaker obsessed with pop culture references, a former CEO (played by Chevy Chase, no joke) who enrolled to meet women, and a hipster named Britta who dropped out of high school ten years ago "to impress Radiohead".
It's very funny, and the new season starts in September. I can't wait.

EDIT 6/14: Whoa. I think I killed the entertainment board. o_0

I would recommend Sherlock, but it's finished. I suggest anyone who loves amazingly clever and hilarious detective type things should watch the next series when it comes out. It is awesome!

I also recommend Vexed. It's hilarious, clever and fast-paced. Well worth a watch.

Battlestar Galactica. No longer on the air, but by far the greatest TV show in the annals of human history.

Sorry, Nate. The best television show in history goes to The Wire, which is consistently phenomenal, heart-breaking, fantastic television. No other television show (with the almost-exception of The Sopranos) comes close to being so amazingly written and wonderfully performed. The most tragic beautiful intricate crime saga to ever hit television.

Other amazing shows: Mad Men, which is gorgeous eye-candy and brilliant storytelling and fantastically complex characters. And the 1960s. Carnivale, which is a dark brooding fantasy set in the 1930s following a carnival, a preacher, and the nuclear bomb. The Sopranos, which hardly needs an introduction. The aforementioned Battlestar Galactica, which is deeply flawed but which also features some of the most heart-rending amazing hours of tv. Most HBO dramas, like Rome, Deadwood, Six Feet Under.

On another note, Venture Bros, featuring spies and spacemen and clones and evil archvillains, is some really great, funny nostalgia-tv paired with fantastic animation. It evokes the feeling of pulp sci-fi and action adventure comics in the best possible way.

Mock the week, Skins and Top Gear are epic.

I love Misfits because it's a spin-off of the superhero genre, although there is a lot of swearing, and blood and gore in it. I also love Doctor Who because it is awesome. And The Big Bang Theory!!

I so agree with Misfits as well! I recently started watching that and it's great. Swearing, blood and gore is my middle name... especially when it includes getting impaled on a fence.
