Roqi
I kicked the wall. Second time I'd fallen. I grunted and wrapped my fingers around a jutting-out rock and boosted myself up. Leverage was the only force working for me at this point. I darted around on the bricks until my arm hooked around the rooftop. I swung over, landing on my back, and quickly got up. I sat on another edge, the one facing the street. I dangled my legs over.
My hair lifted over my shoulder in the wind, my necklace threatening to do the same. I pinned it down with one hand and picked my legs up. I wrapped my arms around myself. It was getting cold, and I should... get gone. I nodded morosely and sat a few more minutes before climbing down the wall.
I walked down the street casually, trying not to attract attention. Contrary to popular belief, slinking through the shadows WILL get you noticed. I climbed up the fire escape and let myself in through the back door of my apartment. I had managed to pay the rent so far, and I wasn't about to give my only home up to some giggling newlyweds.
I wouldn't put my brother to that shame.
