Welcome to the Espionage Epic Storybook.

Storybook's DT: topic65879.html

Why's it epic?

This storybook has farmed characters from numerous numbers of YWSers in an effort to make YWS' first ever epic Storybook. What should result is a huge winding of character relationships, plot twists and dramatic curves. The output may even be comparitable to a novel!
Also, once we decide we've finished (which will, optimistically, be atleast 6 months after the deadline of accepting new characters) I'll be forming all the posts together in order to create a joint novel that'll essentially be co-written by every participant of the Storybook! I'll then send each of you a copy, and we'll see where to go from there!

Background

The British international secret intelligence service was born as a result of War security. Over the years it has changed from being Military Intelligence 6 (MI6) to it's new and modern name, "Secret Intelligence Service". It has also gained good relations with foreign Intelligence agencies, such as the CIA and GIGN in the USA and Germany.

A New Start

The old SB was a bit chaotic as people weren't sticking to the plot and were rushing things. This will be a new start to help everyone get back into the swing of things but please bare in mind that there will be an extra watch on your spelling and grammar, as well as the likeliness that you've actually read the previous posts. Also, be very sure that you stay up to date with ALL new information in the Discussion Thread.

Storybook Plot

The world is on the brink of World War III. The British intelligence service has been the most successful, longest running, international intelligence gatherer, field agent and assasin, in the world. The time has come for the elite of the SIS to be put on the field. A group of Secret Agents who have been flown over to the R.E.A.F (The Russian & Eastern Asian Front) to gather intelligence. Here they've set-up a base of operations disguised as a bookshop. You're a member of this team. However, they also have enemies in the South, threatening to use a Nuclear deterent if they don't get their demands of resources of oil, food and arms. Will the SIS be able to stop WWIII?

Your mission as a member of the SIS Elite Group:

There are many REAF officials circulating Russia and China, with the odd few in Japan. Your job is to assasinate/gather information or bug any of these in order to prevent a Nuclear war. However, at the same time, you're a community. You fight together daily and live in close terms, all on the first floor of the same book shop for a start! So relationships are also very important.

Other Information:
Time Set: 2012
REAF leader: Superior Commander and President Johnov Potrenski
STD leader: The Honourable King Lutin
UNFD leader: The President
SIS leader: British Home Secretary Jack Keates

Please remember that the SIS is a member of the UNFD.

Personalities of Armies:

REAF: Aggresive history. China is ready to blow and Japan is majorly paranoid. This is the closest force to starting a nuclear war. Johnov Potrenski is the most protected man in the World.

STD: Extremely peaceful and diplomatic. However, they're lacking resources and have resorted to threatening nuclear war if they don't get necessities to live.

UNFD: Powerful, but unwise. UNFD rarely acts according to intelligence received and President Obama is on a quest for undeniable strength and power. The CIA sometimes interfere with SIS affairs, corrupting intelligence to their benefit. At points, the SIS will have to work against the CIA.

George Leyton, "Guv'nor" ~ Upstairs of Bookshop, 9.15 a.m. (Opening time)

Location: Wuhan City (Population of 6.6 million), China
Year: 2012, Predicted time until World War Three: 7 Months [ drastic measures needed ]

I paced the room, crammed with seven beds that Alpha team and myself would be using over the duration of the Operation, the other teams were downstairs in the bunker. The new lad, CIA's Harry Raine. Sure, he seemed a trustworthy fella, but for me to believe he was would be a mistake. The CIA's history was poor when it got in the way of SIS for whatever reason, be it corruption or oil. I'd never disliked them; the worked well. I just didn't trust them. It didn't matter though, Ty was a CIA folk too and he'd been alright so far.

I nodded to Clint as he released Raine and then I left the room. I'm sure he'd be able to brief the guy while I went downstairs and reported further CIA prescence to Home Secretary Keates back in England. A fax machine was generally a pathetic piece of technology, but when the message was concealed in a books order to the West, REAF would barely pay a blind bit of notice. Though, that relied on the fact that the poor sod on duty would be half asleep with a magazine full of his favourite ladies in it.

As I came through the bunker, Sam was there with team Charlie. They needed to do something, and luckily I had just the job for them. I ushered Sam to come over to me and then walking with me to the fax machine at the rear of the bunker, I turned to him and smiled.

"Good news, son," I mused, "You've got your first Op."

"Really?" Sam replied, his voice minorly excited, but more prominently I could tell he was anxious. After all, a leader carried numerous responsibilities and his thoughts were probably whirling like hell. The stress would come sooner rather than later too, but eventually he'd grow to handle it.

"Yeah," I laughed, placing my hand in his shoulder in reassurance, then whilst I typed up the fax, I decided to brief him. "At 4.25 p.m. this afternoon, the REAF intel commands Minister is meeting up for dinner with SDT's Foreign Minister to discuss a potential secret alliance between the two superpowers if a war were to break out. Now, conventionally we'd simply pick off the SDT's Minister in the air and stop any chance of something going on. Though, that would more than likely provoke an alliance... and war. No?"

"Naturally, Guv'," he muttered.

"Exactly. So, you and your team need to go to the meeting. I've booked you in as a cover Catering service. You'll be a group of waiters and waitresses. I want you to plant a few bugs. In fact, one under each of the officials chairs at dinner. As a waiter, it should be easy enough, but I'm guessing you don't know much about how to waiter. So, you've got just over 6 hours to learn. You're on the train to Beijing at 3 p.m. You'll also be in constant contact with me, Reet and Clint Lawson. If the alliance seems close, you'll be placing a load'a C4 explosives in the dinner and we'll blow the hell out the poor bastards."

Sam nodded in amusement.

I turned to him once more. "And we'd best hope to hell they didn't think it was us."

Samuel Cook, Team Charlie: Bunker, W/Hayley
1:30 P.M.

That bastard! Sam thought. Gives me the impossible job to handle! He was fuming. The odds of this mission being a success were slim to none; even smaller were the odds of them surviving to moan about it.

As he entered the bunk room, Sam stalked to his bags, pulling out certain things he would need for the dinner event: His knives, which would strap to his forearms, easily hidden beneath the sleeves of a shirt; a pair of white-gold cuff-links which doubled as lock picks when unfastened; and last but not least came out a glass bottle of cologne, infused with a ridiculous amount of pheromones, which, when sprayed wisely, would arouse any woman (and probably some men) the moment he came close enough.

It was definitely his favorite weapon.

As he strapped on the knives and polished the cuff-links, Sam felt a tap on his shoulder from behind. He turned around to see Hayley standing there, a bundle of white-and-black clothing in her hands. She gave him a small smile and proffered the clothes. "These are yours, I believe. Guv'nor arranged our uniforms to be delivered to a P.O. Box nearby. Suit up."

Sam laughed and took the clothes, standing up. Something about Hayley just put him at ease. Maybe it was her relaxed nature that was so similar to his own. Regardless, he enjoyed her company.

"What are you wearing?" he asked. "Probably not this, right?"

She pointed behind her in the general direction of her own bunk. On it lay a bundle of clothes akin to his. "Pretty close, actually. Only more sexy."

Sam laughed again. "What a surprise."

Hayley smiled and left him to change. As he did so, arranging his cuff-links just so, Sam wondered how in the world they were going to learn how to serve a group of world-class leaders. The enemy they may be, but they were still civilized, and would be able to spot a rookie--or a possible infiltrator--with ease. High standards were difficult to meet.

Sam sighed, quickly finishing his ensemble (wisely waiting to use the cologne until it was needed) and headed out of the bunk room to find the rest of the team. Maybe the shop above held some kind of books on waiting.

He sure hoped so.
"You laugh at me because I'm different. I laugh at you because you're all the same."

**Sorry if this isn't great, but Reet is fun to write now! :D **

Reet leant against the till of the bookshop, tapping out a complicated tune on the surface. He was trying to make it sound like Tchaikovsky, but it was proving hard when all he had to work with were four fingers, a thumb, and a desk. Nonetheless, he was reasonably please with the result when something resembling the beat of Swan Lake was discernible.

He was supposed to be on standby, in case Sam and Team Charlie messed up their mission. Reet wasn’t sure if that would happen – he didn’t feel justified in giving an opinion on Sam’s performance as Reed had pretty much avoided spending too much time with the other team members. It wasn’t that he disliked them; he just didn’t like any of them much, yet. Well, Lawson seemed okay, as did Guv’nor. And he was sure that a couple of the people in his team wouldn’t be horrific to work with. But still ... there were so many of them.

Giving up on the complicated tune, Reet checked his watch. 1:33 PM. Sam should be coming up in a moment, starting his mission. They were being slow, Reet thought. He would have got his team out by 1:10 at the very latest, leaving in time for waking up and getting ready. But, he thought with a sigh, that’s the unorganised for you.
"It is curious how often you humans manage to obtain that which you do not want."

Hayley Wilson, in the bunker, getting ready for the mission:

Sam walked out of Team Charlie's shared bedroom, and I gave a sly smile at his waiter uniform. He chuckled nervously and let me into the room so I could prepare for the mission.
I shut the soundproof door behind me and sighed loudly. I wasn't nervous, it was more like I was jittery; on edge, would be the way to describe it. I slipped into the waitress outfit--a white button down shirt with a flimsy collar, and tight black jeans. I slipped a black belt, that would double as a whip if it had to, through the waist of the jeans, and appraised myself in the mirror.
My red hair was messy, as usual, so I sprayed it lightly with water and tied it back into a tight ponytail so I'd appear more "cleaned-up." I rolled the long sleeves of the blouse up to my elbows, and once again looked in the mirror; the white shirt was perfectly fitted and unstained--for now--and the black pants clung to me like my leather ones did, except the material was more flexible to allow for movement on the field op.
I added a necklace to the overall outfit, a classy heart-shaped locket that settled in the hollow of my throat area. I sighed; I looked nothing like my regular self, the world-acclaimed spy-assassin, but that was sort of the point. Undercover missions were made for times like this, where it was important no one recognized you, or identified you.
I placed a small silver dagger coated with black mamba venom into a hidden side slot, unnoticeable to untrained eyes, on my sleek black boots. The dagger was all I would need, unless things got too nasty; and I wasn't planning on that.
Finally, I was ready. I stepped out the door and faced Sam.
"Well?" I asked. "Is this okay?"

**Sorry for the rather short post!**

C-4 | Clint Lawson, Team Red
1:45 - Bunker

Briefing the new guy - Raine - was quick enough: a short explanation of the state of things so far, a rundown of the teams and their roles, then Clint had given him a brief, to-the-point tour of the shop before making his way to the bunker and dropping him there while he himself got intercepted by Guv' and told to get some explosives ready, and pronto. That he could do. He'd retreated to his quiet, clean little corner and set to preparing the charges according to specifics - enough to blow a whole building up, easily carried, undetectable and that wouldn't be traced back to them.

He had just the thing in mind. Time to break out the stash of Semtex! A bit of toying with it (thank god for malleable compounds that were stable enough not to blow up your face), some poking and pondering how to conceal it, and it was done. With the smile of one satisfied with his work, he looked up to meet the slightly mistrustful looks of some of the others.

He rolled his eyes. And wiped the slightly manic grin off his face. "I know what I'm doing, guys. No blowing up in here."

Then it was off to locate Sam. Not in the bunker, so it was up the stairs again, where he found Reet staring annoyedly at Sam while Hayley was showing off the evening's attire to him.

An apologetic glance to Reet, then he interrupted Hayley and handed Sam a small briefcase. "This'd be what you'll need to blow the whole place to bits, if need be. Three charges, two pounds each - more than enough to raze it to the ground. Careful, yeah?"

A nod, and then he retreated. "He's all yours, Reet."

A beep caught his ears as he walked back into the bunker. Huh. Fax, again? Guv' was at it before he could, but he only glanced at it before handing it over to Clint. "That'd be something for your team."

"On it, Guv'."

He read. Military base, currently inspected by an important officer and his escort; said officer likely to play big role if war was to break out. Get rid of him.

Clear enough.

"Hey, Red Team, get off your butts and c'mere." He was pulling out the map of the country and digging through the documents they'd picked up in the months they'd already been here. They had that base mapped somewhere, didn't they?

Naomi Grafton; Team Red; 1:58; Bunker w/Team Red

Claiming the chair next to Clint, Naomi waited impatiently for the others to gather 'round. Most were as quick and eager as her but there were one or two lagging behind and Clint obviously wasn't starting before they got there. Efficient as always. Naomi cast her eyes around the table, cataloguing where everyone had chosen to sit and was surprised to find a very charming Leighton on her right. He winked and she nodded politely in return. At last Isadaemys arrived.

"Faster next time," Clint said firmly. Daemys gave him a cheerful smile and a nod. "Alright team, our target is a military officer who will be inspecting this base." A map was slapped down in the middle of the table and Naomi leaned in for a closer look. "He will have an escort. Questions?"

"How many men?" Fey asked.

"How many women?" Leighton joked straight away. Clint started selecting pages of notes from a stack in front of him.

"The base is four hundred strong but if we time this right we'll only have to deal with the escort and a couple of guards."

"What opportunities are we looking at?" Naomi asked. Clearly this wasn't going to be a shooting from a distance sort of job, it was going to be up close and personal. That could mean a lot of different things though. On an inspection day, sneaking into a military base under false disguise wouldn't be easy but sneaking in while the guards were distracted by a few well played characters? That usually went down rather well.

"This building here is one of the last on the inspection route. It's moderately guarded but probably our best chance."

Not too far from the perimeter or very well overlooked. Naomi nodded her agreement. It sounded like a good place for a little ambush and an assassination.

Sam Cook, Team Charlie, Book Store W/Hayley, Reet, Harry Raine, Nyx, Winter, and Maya.

Sam clutched the case of explosives tightly in his hands, trying to ignore the thoughts of his bodily fluids and brain matter being splattered over the rest of his team if the thing should go off. He didn't distrust Clint, really, but neither was he confident in his skills. Still, there was nothing he could do about it, and at the very least, it was a great excuse to ignore Hayley, who was looking stunning in her tight-fitting disguise. He'd never thought a waitress could look so glamorous.

Sam checked the time. 2:00! That left them less than an hour to get the train to Beijing. And considering the traffic in China, that wasn't very long at all.

"Ready?" he asked no one in particular. "It's about time we head out. The boss'd have our asses if we were late."

There was a general murmur of agreement, and they all headed out the back door. As they hooked around the side of the book shop and onto the sidewalk, Sam felt relieved that they had thought to call the van-taxi to bring them to the train station. He knew it would be nearly impossible for them to look innocent carrying a briefcase full of mystery items, especially if they were planning on serving dinner to the officials. The ride to the station would give them the time they needed to conceal the explosives on various parts of their bodies; knowing Clint, that most likely wouldn't be a problem, as the explosives wouldn't contain metal of any kind. That would enable them to get past security, provided that they didn't decide to strip-search them.

Once they had all hopped in the van, the girls stuffing in the back row to maintain a semblance of privacy as they strategically hid the explosives in their bras (Sam's suggestion, of course), the driver took off. When the girls were done, they slid the empty case under the seat, where it would hopefully stay unhidden for weeks to come, and by then the driver would forget any part of their association with it.

The remainder of the ride to the train station passed uneventfully; once they hopped on and stuffed into a sweaty train car upon their arrival, some managing to find seats, others sandwiched between old men and pregnant women, the commute to their destination continued in a similar fashion.

And before long, they were there. The train reached their stop, and from there it was a few short block to the REAF building, where they entered the building through a back door (reserved for hired work) and slipped past security without a blip. Sam checked the cheap watch he had around his wrist: 3:59. That left them just enough time to find the kitchens and mentally prepare for the task ahead of them.

Lila Downkins (Mercredi) : Team Alpha ; Bunker, Kitchen -> Bookshop ; w/ Leighton and Reet.

1:43

Lila smiled and opened the oven, letting a good smell of cookies out. They were perfect.
She carefully took the plate, her hands protected by two gloves, and hurried to put it down. She liked cooking, cooking was fun.
Doing experiences with cooking was better, tough. One cookie was supposed to be poisoned with a sedative, another with a laxative, another with a soporific and another with something she had found into Leighton's collection, but she didn't know what it was. Certainly it would better to throw up that one. She took a little umbrella in the stock generally kept for cocktails and put it on the unknown-effects cookie. This way she would be sure to recognize it.

She get out of the kitchen her plate in her hands, already looking for someone to taste them. She needed to know if it tasted like a normal cookie, it would be better. Not that this kind of things were really useful, of course, during missions she preferred by far to rely on more moderns things, such as snipers. Still.

« Tyyyyyyyy? » she called, ignoring the others teams. « Tyy, I need you! »

He wasn't in sight, maybe upstairs?
Team Red was meeting in a corner of the Bunker and she smiled at Leighton when she saw him, not stopping him.

« I borrowed something from you, » she said with a maybe-too-enthusiastic smile. « I will show you when you return if you don't get kill! »

She waited for the path to be clear before she took the stairs. Reet was before the bookshop till, playing music with his fingers and looking bored.

« Hi, Chief! » she called, joining him and giving him a cookie « Eat that and tell me what you think. » She frowned, thinking. A beat, then. « Maybe throw it up after. » Not that it was something really dangerous, of course, but maybe Reet wouldn't like it.

Thanks for bringing me in, Kitty. ^^

Leighton Howell - Team Red, 2:09 PM, Bunker

Leighton yawned, glancing at the map with sleepy eyes. He should be out at the casino right now. Clint's seriousness tainted the air with something lethargic, and it affected Leighton the most. The younger spy blinked once or twice, rubbed his eyes with his knuckles to clear away the blur that had overcome them.

"Honestly, there's no way we're getting into that building through the way you plan to." Leighton smiled at the rest of the team and tapped the map. "It may be the last on the inspection route, but that's because it's the most heavily guarded one."

Seconds ticked by. Clint grit his teeth. The others seemed mildly curious.

"Why not?" Naomi asked.

"Because, mi vida," Leighton said, "its security is airtight. I should know. I've scoped that place out. Well, not really. I didn't mean to." Leighton leaned back on his chair and put his hands behind his head. His chair tilted at an angle precarious to those without a good sense of balance.

"You didn't mean to...?" Daemys, all the way across the table, leaned towards Leighton. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"It means I had this thing." Leighton shut his eyes and rubbed his temple with one hand. He didn't like to remember that night. He was drunk, for God's sake. It wasn't supposed to happen.

Clint groaned. "No, God no. You didn't lead them -?"

"Of course not," Leighton snapped. Jeez. He wasn't that careless. "But let's not talk about me. Let's talk about the building."

A murmur of agreement passed through the table.

"It's got one weak spot, and that's how I slipped out of the place without Mrs. Robinson catching me." Leighton smiled and pointed at a side of the building. "There's a small window - as in really tiny. It takes some time to worm through that thing. It's the only way in or out without getting caught. It's also the most heavily inspected area. Quite a risk."

His chair landed on all fours with a thud.

"Make of that what you will," Leighton said, meeting the eyes of every one in his team. "They have meetings every Thursday and Friday night, at the first building. But once we get into this one, we can get to all. They're connected through underground tunnels."

"And you know this how?"

Leighton didn't have to answer. One of the girls did it for him.

"La Cougar. She someone dangerous?"

Leighton wished he could answer, but he didn't know. "She was tall, Japanese, willowy. Pretty hot for her age - early thirties?" He only hoped he was helpful to the others.

Harry Raine: -Team Charlie- On the Train W/Hayley, Sam Cook, Nyx, Winter, and Maya.

Well it was certainly obvious people trusted him less than others around here, but he would show them that he wasn’t a spy or worse sent to cause trouble.

As someone who was sniper trained he was never meant to blend in as he had only to get into spot and shoot. No dressing up games, and certainly no chance of failure. But here he was dressed as a waiter of all things.

Being on the train he heard the rails rattle as the train sped down the line, they’d only just managed to get a seat and now they squashed together like sardines as more people climbed on and off.

It was then his phone rang, gasping he threw it open and answered, “Shadow Wolf, we need to meet now!”

“I can’t Dust, this has to wait—“

“But.. but!”

He closed the phone and grinned at person sitting next to him, “Sorry, I’ll turn it off.”

Now on to the mission, one more stop according to crude map he had on his PDA.

Erika Lily "Lils" | Team Alpha
2.14 PM, The Bookshop. Upstairs

Erika was covered in dirt and sweat. Bullets pelted all around her, staining the trench that she was nearly frozen in with fear. Bodies from both sides littered the ground. If she left the trench, or even just moved, she would be riddled with gunshots in seconds. They were loosing badly, but their commander was still pressing the remnants of his army onward, trying to coax them out of the trench. But suddenly Erika heard the tick of a grenade, and she only had time to take in a quick glance of it..

As Erika's eyelashes fluttered open, she took in the plain, colorless furniture of their sleeping quarters. Between deep breaths, she told herself to relax. It was only a dream, the same dream that she had had for the past two nights, ever since she had been briefed on her new mission and sent out to China to join several others. They had been assigned to deal with R.E.A.F officials in order to prevent World War III. It had been the biggest task Erika had gotten in a while, in which she would play an active role. She wouldn't be seeing any action, but would simply minding their hideout, a bookshop. She hadn't even been one of the original agents selected to go. But still, Erika definitely felt honored. With that honor came fear--if they failed, the consequences would be dire.

She rolled over and threw off her sheets, checking the time on her watch. It couldn't have been that late, could it? Why hadn't anyone woken her up yet? She got up and rummaged through her bag, finding a black turtleneck sweater, a khaki skirt and knee-high black boots. She brushed her hair and washed her face very quickly, then went downstairs into the Kitchen, realizing how hungry she was. They'd probably already had breakfast, but Erika figured she'd get a granola bar or piece of toast.

There were several people already there; Erika recognized Reet, who was her team leader. "Hello," Erika said, leaning against a wall. "I'm sorry I slept so long. Bad dream."

All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them.

George Leyton, Guv'nor | 3.11pm | Bunker

A coms radio hung tightly in my back pocket. It was a direct link between myself and Sam, who should've got on the train ten minutes ago and would hopefully be in the dinner meeting on time. I knew it was quite a risky mission, but I could see no reason why we'd have to resort to blowing the place sky high. The chances of an alliance even occuring weren't particularly likely anyway, but all the same, those bugs needed to be placed because if there was a possibility an alliance would be formed, I'd have to give the go ahead to blow 'em up. Somehow, I'd have to make it seem like it wasn't the UNFD, that was the problem. I noticed Clint sitting at a table with Red Team gathered around him, all listening attentively except Leighton who seemed far more laid back.

"Lawson," I called, "Did you give Charlie's op REAF manufactured explosives? I know there's not a chance in hell there'd be much of it left if the place did blow sky high, but put it this way- if one of the Charlie lads leaves some of that lying around and it leads back to us, we'd best hope to hell REAF and SDT are leniant."

"Don't worry, Guv'," Clint smiled, "They're REAF through and through."

"Good," I replied and nodding to the rest of the team I made my way around to the otherside of the bunker to find Reet who was with Erika in the corner. Erika seemed to have gotten up not much more than an hour ago by her pale and relatively blank facial expressions and Reet was more bewildered than he'd appeared the last few days. I chucked him a coms radio and grinned.

"That links directly to Sam," I stated, gesturing to the radio. "I want you in touch with him constantly, any mess-ups, tell me."

"Right'o, Guv'," Reet replied, tapping his fingers gently on his leg.

"As for you, Erika," I said turning to her, "Since you've had yourself a lie-in, you can do the night op with me this time around."

"Night op, Guv'?" Erika asked attentively, her expression more awake now.

"Yep," I smiled, "You and me are going to spend a boring night up in the shop with our pistols out making sure no half wit is following any of Team Charlie or Red Team on their return. If they are, we shoot without question. Oh-- and no-one comes in the front way. We make sure o' that."

I walked away, deciding to go upstairs and grab a smoke. Then, I'd move on to my day's work.
