You won’t believe what I say. You’ll think it’s impossible, but I implore you these words are as true as the fact that there is nothing entirely true in the universe. Immerse yourself in my world. Without you I don’t think I’ll live any further. Wait! Please don’t close this book.
I beg you. If you do I’ll die. Don’t try it. The words will erase themselves. Well, I don’t know for certain, no ones ever opened this book before. If they had I’d have been shut before, but I haven’t been. You’re the only person I’ve ever met since I was sealed in here.
Oh, come on. Don’t look at me like that. Even though I don’t have eyes, I can tell you’re looking incredulous. I’ve been sealed into a book. Yes, that’s right; by the world’s most powerful thing. No, not magic. I can’t make that much of a stretch, you’d just put this book right back where you got it. No, magic isn’t what I was talking about. Technology.
Yes, technology. Wait! Don’t close this book. I might die. Technically I’m not sure I’m alive, but that’s in the details. You can’t close this book. I might disappear, as far as I know this book is my lifeline and you are my power point. Please don’t flick the switch. But I digress. Yes, technology. Not your technology. Not that filthy vile stuff that pollutes your world, no, this is my technology.
Well, I can’t say its mine. It’s my people technology, was my people’s to be correct. I don’t like to think of them as mine anymore. Ever since they locked me in here. Don’t get the wrong idea; I’m not the bad guy. They were bad. Uhh, that’s a really broad generalisation, but it’s true. My people, the Svinx, are evil. Evil as they come. I’m not saying I’m not evil, but just sort of less. Less evil than they are. Oh gods, I’m screwing up what could be my only chance of survival.
Okay. The Svinx are evil. I’m not as evil. There I’ve said it. Okay. Now, I’ll tell you how you can help me escape. Go to Google right now, type in Svinx. It’ll say “do you mean: Sphinx?” No, of course you don’t bloody mean sphinx. Oh, stuff it, that’ll take too long. Just type in this link: http://not-worth-it.deviantart.com/art/Svinx-168449869. And don’t bother looking at the person’s other stuff, they probably don’t even know that that is there. Leave it be.
I’ve got to warn you, after this there is now going back. You’re stuck with me, whether you close this book or not. I’ll be there at the edge of your mind, gnawing. You’ll always wonder what happened to me. Did someone else pick me up? Did I actually die when you closed the book? Just a warning, only read on if you’re totally committed.
Still here? Okay.
You’ve got the link open? Good, read it. Yes. Are you getting the picture?
…
Wait. Was that the one where someone is begging for help? Yes? Good. That is my father. He is a terminal liar. He’s never going to stop. As soon as you read it delete it from you’re browsing history. Now! Do it. Okay. Now you’re done, I want you to think about it. Why would he do this? (Or better yet how the hell do I know this?) I’ll give you an answer to one of them.
He wants to capture your world. Well, I can’t say it’s yours… more like the world you live on. I don’t know why you picked up this book, picked up me. Maybe it was the pretty cover, or the interesting blurb without a blurb on the back, but I can tell you, this is more than just a twist of fate, this is destiny. It may not be the destiny you’ve always wanted.
Probably not even a destiny you’ve ever thought about, but well, you can’t complain. I’m stuck in a book. And all you need to do is listen to me ramble on. Well, now that’s sorted. My father wants the world you live for his own. I don’t know why. Your world is practically dead… Wait! I take that back, just for the Gods’ sakes don’t close this book.
Oh, thank the gods, you’re still here. I’d like to tell you one thing. I’m writing and you’re reading. This is happening at the exactly same time. Or maybe I’m a little faster than you, whatever, but it’s true. Sure, I’m stuck inside a book, but that’s just it. Wouldn’t I just be a moving or still picture? Like a foldable television? Than why the hell am I writing? – That’s a good question.
Well, for one, if you were talking to me you wouldn’t understand what I was saying. I’ve got a codex translator in my brain which only translates code. Thank the gods you’re writing is so complex that’s it counted as a code. Back onto what I was saying before. This is destiny, but this is also now. Okay, what happens if I change now, would that change destiny? No. It wouldn’t. Say if I told you to close this book. (Please don’t do it.)
You would open it. I would be here waiting. Now, this is what I hope. I desperately hope. I don’t want to die if you suddenly get tired and want to take a nap. But you’ve got the ball rolling. I warned you. You pushed it down the hill. It’s going to gather momentum. And you know what? Even if you tell yourself you’re going to put me down, stop reading what I’m writing you’ll know it’s a lie. I’ll know it’s a lie. And I’ll be waiting for you to come back and read me again. As long as I still exist even in the tiniest part in your brain, my writing will be in this book.
It’s too late I told you. If you get rid of my from you’re mind, stop thinking of me, forget me completely I’ll be gone, but as soon as you glance back at my cover, as soon as you so much glimpse the first page, I’ll be back again. I hope…
If you skip to page 100 or something you will read something, but that is what I’ll be writing then, if you start reading there, this page is gone, unimportant. When you close this book, everything inside disappears. I have it saved in my mind, so don’t worry, but don’t close me just yet. I need to tell you more.
I can tell you’re curious. Otherwise I’d be dead. But it’s too late now. You’ve cranked the music up full volume and now it’s time to dance the tango with fate. Let’s get this party started.
First is first. I’m a Svinx. Wait, I’ve told you that right. I’ve told you my race is evil. They’ve used technology to trap me inside this book. They’re out to get your world. I use a translator to talk to you. If you close this book I’ll be waiting. Ok. That’s the basics.
Now onto the nitty gritty. I don’t know who you are. I can only have faith that the Gods have chosen someone worthy to help me. Not that you’re not worthy. You’ll just need a lot of guts. Because I’m hungry. Hahaha! Totally got you. You thought I ate humans.
Well, my race isn’t against it…
Hey! Don’t look at my pages like that; you’ll make me catch on fire or something. And I assure you if there is one sure fire to rid yourself of me it’s to burn me in the fire place. But don’t do that. I’m a little too important for that. I’m Svinx Prince. Oh yeah. Forgot to mention that. Wait! I’m not lying to you. Just giving you selective bits of truths glued together in such a way it seems too good to be true.
I can see that look in your eyes. Maybe I shouldn’t have told you about the fire. Okay. I get it. You want the truth? Really, you do? ‘Cause I can give it to you, no questions asked. But sometimes the truth hurts. It really does. You looked really determined there. Okay, I give. You win.
You’re the only thing which can possibly give the world to my father. But you won’t do it. I’ve done this with you before. I know how this ends. I… oh god. I’m crying again. Shit. Damn it. I wasn’t meant to say that to you. You’re not meant to know. I’m sorry. Shit. Don’t close me please. If you close me now you’ll force yourself to forget me again!
Again… I’ve been so lonely. Please. Don’t close me now. You want to know our history, right? Which one should I tell you? The one where we’re victorious? Where we lose? Where the universe implodes upon itself, but the particles turn into energy and the energy turns into light, but the light travels backwards and time is reversed? Just tell me. Or do you want to know the one where we first met? I can tell you that one; it’s one of my favourites.
If I tell you, will you help me? Please… wait, don’t answer that yet. Answer me when I finish. It’ll give you some time to think. If you could see me you’d know I was smiling.
I’d just like to say something before I begin - I’ve definitely been getting nicer to you, like I promised, over the millions times we’ve done this. Remember? I never used to give you a warning.
(Just a little something worked up a few minutes ago.)
