It looks much too messy, and the lighting effects seem... too solid. It should have more opacity, I would think. I think you need to look at explosion for a better idea about how explosions should look. Even lightning looks less jagged.

When you scribble your shading, it makes it look really sloppy, Sponson. Go with individual strokes and it'll look much more crisp. Pretty nifty other than that--the smoldering corpse is a nice touch.
