Hiya! So I think the fact that I love to write is obvious, I mean I'm here.
I also love to read, I think they go hand and hand. My favorite book of all is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. It is absolutely fabulous, especially for any young writer. I am also a big fan of memoirs, I practically like Angela's Ashes and The Glass Castle.

I am the kinda girl that scoffs at romantic movies in theory, but then, when I actually watch them, I am the one with the box of tissues and a serious case of sniffles. This is incredibly embarrassing, as I pride myself as a realist/slight pessimist; as a person who can't be easily swayed by emotions and false facades, and yet, the sniffles persist. I guess that just means I am a hopeless romantic at heart.

I love anything (books, TV, music) that has a slight dark edge to it. I find that dark twisted edge to be incredibly fascinating. I guess that explains why two of my favorite shows are Medium and Criminal Minds. I also appreciate smart satire, like on the The Daily Show. Definitely my pessimistic, "critic of society," side coming out there.

In terms of music, I really love Jack's Mannequin, The Postal Service, The Format, and Never Say Never. All of which is mostly alternative stuff, sort of off main stream. (Don't tell anyone, but I actually love Taylor Swift. Silly hopeless romantic that I am. ^.^)

Politics/Social Issues are also a big part of my life, I like to stay up to date on current events and things, and really hope to make a difference in this world, because this world has its many problems.

So that's me. I look forward to continuing to read others work, and continuing to get feedback on some work of my own. YWS seems like such a great site!

Happy Writing!

Hi Turquoise! Welcome to YWS! How are you enjoying it so far?

Hehe, I'm a hopeless romantic as well. Sometimes it can be really cheesy, sudden, and uncomfortable, but when they do it well, they do so really well. What's your favorite romance movie? Mine is Titanic. What kinds of stories do you like to write? I know you mention reading dark stuff and watching romance-does that stuff extend to your writing as well? Or you could be weird like me (for instance, I hate writing science fiction but it's my absolute FAVORITE genre to read and watch).

Have you been on any writing sites before, or is this your first one? YWS is truly one of a kind-you've definitely come to the right place if you want to learn and become a better writer. There are a TON of cool things you can do on the site in addition to reading/critiquing and posting your works. There are blogs, a Poetry and Short Story database, as well as something you might like. The Knowledge Base is a collection of articles written by YWSers that cover everything from YWS Help to writing tutorials.

If you have any questions or just want to chat, don't be afraid to PM me! Again, welcome!

P.S. Don't be ashamed! I love Taylor Swift too. She's probably my second favorite artist next to Avril Lavinge-do you listen to her?

P.P.S. I really hope that you enjoy your time on the site!

:D. Ya, the romantic dark edge extends to my writing as well. Although, I could never write a pure romance novel, I am much to naturally sarcastic for that. However, I write alot of fantasy that sort of has a dark edge to it, with romantic subplots. My biggest challenge when it comes fantasy is avoiding what I like to call "twilight cliches," because there are such easy traps to fall into.

I ADORE the titanic. I cry every single time. Plus, who doesn't love Leonardo DiCaprio right? :D Its really another typical girl cliche, but I love the Notebook. Its really sad, I call myself an avid reader and a aspiring writer, and I haven't even read the book. But, I just absolutely love the chemistry between the main characters in that movie.

Ya, I have definitely heard of Avril, she is pretty decent.

This is my first writing site, its actually the first one I found. Its seems like such a caring community of writers, and constructive criticism is invaluable sometimes. You seem like you have been here a while, What do you like to write or read?

Thanks for the Welcome!

Hello Turquoise!

I'm Lava and welcome to YWS! *showers confetti!*

I'm positive you'll have a great time here. :)

I haven't heard of those books, but I'll make sure to check them out sometime. Well, I'm a bit of a hopeless romantic too. ^^ (I guess we all are, on the inside.) Oh and yes, Titanic's one of my favourite ever, besides it being the first English movie I watched. I also loved 'The Notebook.' That is one epic movie.
And I love Criminal Minds too.

Do pop into the chat, to meet other awesome YWSers. And you can be sure of getting constructive criticisms. :)

PM me or any other person in green if you have any questions. Happy to help out.
Cheers,
~Lava

Hi Turquoise! Welcome to the amazing YWS! *circus music plays in the background* :P If you close your eyes and only listen to that, you won't get creeped out. It's my imaginary YWS theme song. ;)

Ahem. Anyways, I have a few questions for you!

What is your favorite color?

Do you like my radioactive cat?

Who is your favorite actor/actress and singer?

Do you like YWS so far?

Is there anything you're having trouble doing or accessing on the site?

Just confused? I would love to help!

Here are a few forums for you to check out when you're lost or need help with anything:

The Information Desk: Here you can find pretty much any new updates to the website that you need to know about, and sometimes Nate (the site admin) needs our feedback on different aspects of YWS. Check it out!

Questions and Answers: This is a forum for everyone to use to post questions about the site that you may have. Usually you'll get fast responses. :D

The Lounge: This forum is for all the users to use to talk about pretty much anything! It's a great way to keep in touch with (and meet) other members.

And I think that's enough to get you started for now! Again, I'm glad you joined...WELCOME! :D

If you need anything at all, please feel free to ask me! I'm always around.

Yep!

I'll have been here for a whole year starting next month. The Notebook was okay. I don't really like any Nicholas Sparks books-but A Walk to Remember was an amazing book and movie. Hehe, I absolutely ADORE Leonardo DiCaprio. He's just so cute! By the way, he's my husband, so don't you dare come close to him. :P

Anyway, about your story, I don't usually review novels, but I'll definitely get to it if I have the time, okay? I have one thing on my list that I need to critique but after that I'll see. As for myself, I love to read/watch horror, science-fiction, fantasy action and romance, while I like writing all of those except sci-fi. What are your favorite books? Mine are probably The Hunger Games and Casino Royale (It's a James Bond book).

Oh my god, this site is amazing. Anyway, I'm really glad you like the site and I'm hoping you'll stay for many months to come! You seem really cool. :D Mr. Knightley gave you a lot of helpful links. Again, welcome and don't be afraid to PM me if you have any questions.
