Best in Black and White

Here are my top three black and white photos. What do you think? Critiques welcome.

This is great! My fav pic is the piano keys one. I love the perspective and how the keys, as they go on, get blurrier, and how only four keys in the middle aren't blurry at all. Very interesting. Second fav is the penguin. I love the feather texture on his stomach, and the blurry spot on the top right part of his stomach, since it reminds me of snow!

Okay, I'm not a photographer, but I know WAY too many ones, so I'll try to do my best oin this...

I like the color scheme and the black and white theme, I think it's wonderfully clever. I love the shot of the piano keys, and the zoom in...the penguin one might be more effective if you focus more on the penguin, because our eyes keep on getting distracted (there's something about the mind's eye and a diagram that my friend rambled to me about, but I'm not confident enough to use it). I love the differing definition of the pictures, so good job!

Oooh, pretty flowers. Tis my least favourite, though, purely because I have seen so many pictures of flowers. >.<
The second one is really cool. Nice clean lines and good angle, the focus drags your eyes along the keys. Probably my favourite.
A black and white photo of a black and white bird? Awesome. I like how he almost glows.
I love black and white photos. They look cleaner, somehow. But yeah, nice work =O

The piano one is definitely my favorite one. Very elegant, very beautiful in its own quiet way. The second photo isn't showing for me -- it says that the file is no longer available. Did you take it down? The third one is very cute, but lacks the intrigue of the first. The first, it makes my wonder, makes me think. I think the problem with the penguin one is that it's a head on, full body shot of the subject. The piano one wouldn't be nearly as interesting if it was a head on shot that showed the whole piano, after all, right? That's not saying to zoom in on all your photos -- though that is a neat technique. Zooming out far enough that you capture the scene in such a way that the subject becomes 'small' in the midst of it is good to. But even just including a partial shot of the penguin would be good, even at its current zoom. Experiment a little with it. You've obviously got the talent to be self guided in that. These photos are really very beautiful, all of them.

Also, how on earth did you manage to get a picture of a penguin? XD

These are gorgeous! As it is I like black n' white photos more than the coloured ones.(I know it sounds funny).

I don;t know why but the first one didn't seem to take much of my attention. Maybe the flowers were not focused on much.

The piano ones are the best, I must say. I like the angle, the rustic feel the wood has at one point.

The bird is so sweeeettt! I liked how he's facing the other direction and not directly looking at us.

Your signature is way too cool! I wish I could've one like this! But I would suggest you to avoid signaturing and posting your real name.

Your photos looked totally awesome and cool. I love how you use the greyscale effect 'cause the focal shots looked professional, totally clean and smooth. You used the effect well 'cause you know, others use that 'black and white' thing but it doesn't fit suitably to their photo. I especially love the second photo 'cause you shot it in a good angle.

No, it just says that. If you see three photos including the flowers, then all the pictures are there.

Also, how on earth did you manage to get a picture of a penguin?

My family and some friends went on a big road trip to the Fort Worth Zoo. The only thing between me and mister penguin was some shiny, clean Plexiglas.

I didn't think it was a problem since it was only my first name and that I will probably change my signature by the time I use it for legal stuff, but thanks for reminding me. Better safe than sorry!

What type of camera did you use, by chance?

I used a Nikon D50 with some telephoto lens. I don't know the lens for sure. Also, I had the settings to take large, fine pictures to reduce noise. I thought I'd point that out because it makes a huge difference.

Well, just a quick something from me. Gosh, you really are good, great job.

I personally don't like the piano keys because the idea and composition is overused. I've seen too many like these by now that I want you to show something different.
But it is a very good photography piece. I just wish you had gone for different angles or focusing.
