Aboard the Petrel

Ahoy, me fine gents!

The year be 1803, an' you're a poor child, with out a home, bless ye. The streets of London be dangerous, most of the time, ye go around with empty bellies, and you're never warm enough. Still, ye get by well enough.
Then, one fine day, everything changes for ye.
While wandering the docks along the Thames, beggin' and tryin' to scrounge up some grub, ye notice a ship's notice. It informs ye that the HMS Petrel is taking on 10 new ship's boys, backgrounds, no matter. Ye figure that goin' to sea wouldn' be so bad. Not worse than ye are already, anyhow. So, ye find the good ship Petrel, and get the attention of the First Mate. The questions he asks ye don' really matter: alls ye wants to do is get that spot as ship's boy! So's whether or not you've got nautical talents is of no concern. Ye...stretch the truth o' bit and Bob's ye're uncle. Before ye knows it, ye're a ship's boy, and off for a marine adventure the likes o' which ye've never encountered. Ye and the 9 other newly chosen ship's boys are informed tha' the Petrel's mission is the huntin' down, an' eliminatin' of, pirates. The Petrel is a frigate o' war turned bounty hunter, in all essentialities. However, war is brewin' with the French, so's ye might be dragged into a different sort o' hunt at any moment...
All this is of little consequence at the moment, though. All's ye care abou' right now is the fact that they feeds ye and give ye a nice hammock te sleep in at night. Ye're duties are rigorous, it's true, but, afore the Petrel leaves port, ye're quite content.
Off for an adventure on the high seas! Huntin' pirates and finding gold! It's all a lad could ask for!

Now, I know what ye're thinkin': Characters! Ye can have, o' course, a boy character, but ye can also come up with a girl, disguisin' herself for the exhilaration and adventure. It's ye're own choice. I'll also consider lettin' people have an officer or sailor character, if ye'd like! There be 10 ship's boys profiles open:

Personality: Nick is generally cheerful and full of energy. Even though he's on the streets, he still manages to hold on to his happiness. He's also fiercely protective of his friends, as he doesn't have any family.

Post: Ship's Boy.

Background: He's always been on the streets, and can't remember anything else. He was a loner most of the time, but he's glad to have found a sort-of family aboard the Petrel.

Secrets: He's killed a man before, for reasons he doesn't like to talk about.

Name: Kaysie Dawn Alfonzo (goes by Fonzo)

Age: 15

Appearance: Kaysie, well Fonzo as she's to be called on the ship, has short, wavy brown and black hair with purplish-brown, almond-shaped eyes. Her womanly face is usually covered with a bit of grime, to hide the fact she is a girl, and she wears baggy clothes to hide her curves and womanly parts(:

Background: Kaysie/Fonzo used to be the heir to a very, very large fortune. Her father was a Duke, her mother a Duchess. Kaysie had an older brother, in his early thirties, who came back home from being at sea so many years, and demanded money from their parents. Fonzo, at the time, was just a tot, no really knowing what was going on. She did know, however, that her brother was the one who killed both her parents out of greed, and ran with their family's fortune, which also left Fonzo alone and poor. She roamed the streets for the rest of her life, nothing to her name but a scar down her back, a family picture of her and her parents when she was a small girl, and an old, priceless gold coin her father had given her, and she would not give up, even for the world. After hearing about the whole Petrel deal, she automatically knew what she wanted to do.

Secrets: She's really a female She's blind in her left eye, has a scar down her back, and was raped when she was ten by a grungy pirate, the same one that took her sight in her left eye and caused the scar. She swore revenege on pirates ever since, swearing she'd find Yellowbeard one day, and kill him and her brother without a second thought.

Other: Up for love, I guess? And... she doesn't care if someone finds out her secret, as long as they swear not to tell. She also has a pet monkey, named Hooke, who's pictured below.

why'd you say ye so much?

'Cause I was trying to sound 17th century. And yes, girls are allowed.

And before I forget, this idea was kinda based off of "Bloody Jack," which is a really excellent book.

Age: He is not sure, but around 15

Appearance: He whears a leather jacket at all times and an old pair of boots. Plus the same cut - off pants. He has some tatoos, but you can only see one. (A leaf on the back of his hand.)

Personality: He keeps to himself. He is very good at not showing his feelings even through pain.

Background: He has known the streets all his life and was in a gang until they kicked him out because gave food to a little girl.

Stowaway

Gender: Male

Age: 12
Appearance:
Personality: He is very quiet, always scared, very mistrusting, always alert, never laughs, and passive. He is very good at being quiet.

Background: He went on the ship to escape his life as a servant. He also had and abusive dad.

Secrets: His whole being and existence.

Other: He is a stowaway, his name is Andrew

Oooh... What kind of ship is it?

Would a prisoner be a suitable role? ie. they are being transferred to a different holding place? I want an ex-pirate >.<

It's a four-masted gun ship from the Royal Navy. A prisoner character would work great! Wish I'd thought of that...

Name: Allison

Gender: Female

Age: 12

Post: Gunner's Apprentice

Appearance: Allison is small but tough, in stature and the way she carries herself. She's only 12 but no one messes with her. She has dirty red/blonde hair and very tanned skin. She has unmistakable amber eyes and a burn scar that forms a thin line up her collar bone. She dresses like a boy and doesn't care for dresses and girly things in the least bit.

Personality: She's loud and energetic, very tough and impassive. She can be very stubborn and independent as well. She is a little dynamo and isn't afraid of anything. (Says she.) She's very self-reliant. She leaps into things a little too quickly.

Background: Her widowed mother found her last hope in Allison and pretended she was a boy so Allison could get apprenticed. Allison has grown up accepted as a boy and only just cut the act when she was 10 after some very bad burns caused her to be discovered by a doctor. The Gunner who she was apprenticed to got a little bit in trouble with the law and rejoined the Petrel where he worked 10 years previous. Allison enlisted as well and serves as the second Gunner or a powder monkey.

Secrets: Her family. No one knows what became of her mother and her three little sisters.
