[Can I just say how weird it is that one of the characters here has the same name as me? ]

... Can my character be one of Lorei's stowaways?

Name: Emmett Dunelm
Age: 21
Profession: Mage [Psychic]

Appearance: Dark brown hair that's quite long for a man. Quite a narrow face, blue eyes. Fairly tall, not very muscular.

Personality: Generally appears optimistic despite his current situation. He is fairly confident with those he knows well, but it can take him a while to trust newcomers. Once his trust is won, he is fiercely loyal [ie. would do anything to ensure Lorei's safety.]

Weaknesses/Strengths: Very good at using powers; often uses mind-reading skills subtley in order to read situations well. Can run very fast; good at finding hiding places. However isn't very good in the offensive - struggles to make sound battle plans and is not good at hand-to-hand combat or with weapons.

Likes/Dislikes: Is a tiny bit addicted to lemonade. Dislikes being trapped in the city, has so far been inable to escape. Gets very agitated when he is in the secret hidaway for too long.

Other: Up for love of course!

Sorry it's long.

Lorei

I finish pouring Emmett's lemonade, among the other drinks, and peak out of the kitchen. The hallway is empty. I try to stay on carpeted areas, to avoid the click of my high heels against the floor.

I almost run up the stairs, trying to avoid the many maids and butlers. I make it up to my room, thankfully, without incident. I pull back the rug to see what looks like very deep water.

"It's me." I call down. The water parts, much thanks to Catherine, and I step down the narrow, twisting steps. The water was a precautionary step. From above, anyone would assume only very deep water lay below the trap door, if it was ever found. In fact, it was only a thin sheet that Catherine kept as a precaution at my request.

Most of them are in the living room, sitting at the table. I set each of their drinks in front of them.

"You're incredible." Emmett says I put a tall glass of raspberry lemonade in front of him.The others nod their thanks. I take my own, and sit at the head of the table.

"I bought a few new books and a couple odds and ends," I say, "but I will need to get them down here."

Catherine re-opens the water, and I run back into my room, then back down again, closing the trap door behind me. In my hands I have a basket. In it is a bar of chocolate for Cutter, and the book Rare and Unknown Creatures for Ollie.

Also for Millie, I had a little necklace, and for Rae a bunch of new flowers. For Catherine I had a pomegranate, and lastly for Emmett a box of packets that you pour into water to make various flavors of lemonade.

I put a little stack of novels on a coffee table near the mini kitchen they had.

I tried to get them things that would make them feel a little more happy, since the living conditions weren't the best.

"Roast beef again for dinner?" Cutter asks.

"Probably." I respond. There is a collective groan. Roast, fried, or stewed beef had been their dinner the last few nights. And their breakfast, and lunch, and snacks in between.

"I am doing what I can." I tell them.
Life is a door, and I hold the key to happiness.

Catherine

I opened the water up so that Lorie could come into our little hide-out. She brought everyone something special along with some books. I was extremely thankful for what she had done.

"Thanks so much!" I said to her, digging into my pomegranate.

"No problem." She said.

"Roast beef again for dinner?" Cutter asks.

"Probably." Lorie replies.

Most of us groaned, and even though I wanted to, I held mine in. I knew Lorie was doing all she could, and I didn't want to repay her with wining.

"I am doing what I can." She tells us, and I understand.

"And we're all grateful for it." I say, looking around. "Aren't we, guys." Even though they all nod, I know they were disappointed. I was too, but there wasn't much we could do to change that. Life was hard for us.

Cutter,

"We know," I say, trying to conceal my restlessness in levitating a glass to my mouth and taking a sip. I just can't stand staying here, day in, day out. And I'm afraid to teleport, in case there are any teleport blockers around. I'd seen terrible things happen to those who had run into those.

"Thanks for the chocolate, by the way," I say, staring at it hungrily, "I haven't had any for awhile."

"I know. That's why I brought it." Lorei smiles. She looks a little worried, though.

"Have there been a lot of searches lately," I ask, suddenly afraid.

"There were magekillers around this morning," Lorei says, "And they searched the house across the street, but..."

I nod, "Maybe it might be a good idea to change the water to earth. Looks more realistic," I say, thinking.

Millie

"The necklace is beautiful," she gasped, smiling. Millie loved pretty things. Some would call her a girly-girl, but it wasn't that. She just loved any sorts of jewerly. This one was silver with little crystals embeded on it.

"Thank you!" Millie smiled.

Lorei smiled at Mille and nodded her head. "Your welcome."

Millie sighed, and looked up. She wished she could go out. She hated that they were hunted. She missed the sun on her face and dancing in the rain. She missed it all.

She hated having to hide.

But everyone had to deal with it and everyone had to keep each other happy.

Jonathan

He was getting ready to go out. He would find a mage today. And he would kill them. It had been too long. And the grief of his parents death was rising inside.

It had been a long time, but he would never forget the sight of their broken bodies on the floor. The unmistakeable smell of death.

Today he would find a mage. And it would pay.

I took the book gratefully and added it to the steadily growing pile in the corner. I guess I used the books to imagine the outside. To stare at the pictures and convince myself that I was out there, studying the creatures, rather than stuck in this cramped, stuffy hideout. Still, I supposed it was better to be in here than be dead.

There was a strange atmosphere in the hideout. We were all constantly alert to danger and terrified that we'd be discovered. But at the same time, living in such close quarters forged deep bonds between us, and we knew almost everything about eachother.

Millie was struggling with her necklace so I brushed the hair off her neck and fastened it for her.

"Thanks," she grinned at me.

"No problem," I smiled back.

Lorei

I look back up the trap door.

"Your dad is coming." Cutter says. His mind-reading helped me be alert in advance so
I could be in my room when servants or my father came.

"I will be back later." I say. I climb through what was now parted earth, and climb through the trap door.

I sit on my bed and grab a book just as my father comes in.

"You are always reading, why don't you ever invite friends over?" My dad asks.

Because I am secretly hiding a bunch of mages right under your feet. I think. I know down below, the physic's are probably stifling a laugh or two.

"I don't really have many friends at school dad. but if you would like me to invite a few people over...." I say, trailing off.

"I worry about you, sweetie, it just isn't normal, the way you act. The look on your face, you always look guilty. And when the Magekillers were checking on the Dawsons, you looked like you were about to fall over." He says.

"I just don't get outside enough. I have an idea, there is a big history test coming up. I will call up a few people and we will go outside to study."

My father nods, and leaves. Once I am sure he is gone, I go back downstairs.

"Who wants to go outside?" I ask. For a minute, unfortunately, my thoughts betray me. I had though, if only for a second, about Emmett being the one to come out first. Not because he wanted to go out the most, but because I wanted the two of us to just have some time alone again, like it was before the others came.

"Maybe it might be a good idea to change the water to earth. Looks more realistic." Cutter said.

I nodded in agreement, and immediately changed the water at the entrance to the trap door to Earth. He was right, it did look more realistic.

"Your dad is coming." Cutter tells Lorie, so she went up to talk to him. I could hear them talking, but the question she asked us when she came back down was completely unexpected.

"Who wants to go outside?" she asked us. I couldn't even believe it.

"Are you crazy?!" I practically yelled. "There was a magekiller just across the street, and you want us to go outside? No way! It's not safe." I desperately wanted to say yes, but I knew it was too dangerous. Life just like this was a risk, but exposing ourselves was going too far, even if we were disguised. I looked at Lorie. "I'm sorry, but it's not a good idea." I hated myself for saying that. I had finally been given the opportunity to get out of that cell-type thing, and I had to turn it down.

Personality: Ken is tough, and really determined. She is cool, witty, and rarely happy. She is intent on revenge, but has a clever side. She is very detail oriented, and nitices little things most people overlook. Great memory. She is a pessimist. Most of the tie she stays in the sidelines, watching peoples every move.

Weaknesses/Strengths: She is small, only 5'3'' and only rarely smiles. But she is clever, and notices things most people overlook.

Likes/Dislikes: Likes rain (good for cover) and her pistol. Dislikes Mages (she thinks they killed her parents, but it was really her uncle) and bright sunlight.

Other: Kind of up for love, if you can break past the pessimism.

~Emmett~

I paused, taking in both Lorei and Catherine's suggestions. Okay, so it would be stupid and dangerous, but I hated being cooped up in here. It had been at least three months since a proper outing outside, and the teleportation blockers didn't make things any easier, either -I could no longer simply disappear away to safety.

But then, I'd always ventured out with Lorei before the others had come. What difference did it make now? Besides, it would be nice to spend some time alone with her if no-one else wanted to venture outside.

I caught Cutter giving me a disapproving look at my wandering thoughts. Too many times my thoughts had strayed to Lorei, and it hadn't been hard for Cutter to pick up on my feelings for her, and that they were probably much stronger than they should be. Not that she could ever know, of course.

I grinned up at Lorei. "Sure, sounds like fun. Does anyone else want to come?" I'd already picked up on the excited thoughts running through some of the others' minds, but I still hoped they'd stay behind.

@Izzy: Please could you put your character's name at the top of your posts? It just makes life easier :D
Elizabeth: "There will come a moment when you will have a chance to show it. To do the right thing."
Jack: "I love those moments. I like to wave at them as they pass by."

Kennedy (Ken) Clark

"Jonathan!" I yell, running up to him.

"What?" He asks, obviously mad someone had bothered him. Heaven forbid someone tell him his gun had no bullets in it.

"You used all the damned bullets in your gun yesterday, and since the number of bullets in the package hasn't changed, I assume you are out of bullets." I tell him. He takes out his gun, checks it, and gives me a look. I toss him a pack of bullets. He fills up his gun, and tosses the pack back to me.

"Thanks." he said curtly.

"Where are you looking today?" I ask him.

"The Inner city."

"I will get those few mansions we didn't get to yesterday. There is something about the big on, the one made of bricks, that is really bugging me."

"Have fun." He says sarcastically. I sigh, and walk back inside.

"Sure, sounds like fun. Does anyone else want to come?" Emmett says. No one else says anything, so I led Emmett upstairs.

"The light, the sun, clean air. You don't know how much you miss simple things until you don't have them." He sighs.

"I try my best." I say. I aproach the door, open it, and look out. No one. We walk to a little door that had a stairwell that led to our garden.

We walk down, careful not to make too much noise. We finnally get outside.

I sit down on a little section of the grass. Emmett sits beside me.

"It's nice to hav just me and you again." I tell him.

"Who knows how long it will last?" he responds. We just sit there for a minute, enjoying the sun.

"I will try to get you outside more, but the risk is too great. If something happened to you..." I start. I realize where my sentence is going, and re-direct it, "any one of you, I would feel terrible."
Life is a door, and I hold the key to happiness.

Cutter,

I can hear everyone's thoughts, the good, the bad, the romantic...And sometimes it rubs. Especially the romantic ones. No one's ever had romantic feelings for me, and while that isn't exactly a problem, it still makes me feel lonely. Even though they're pretty far away, I can hear Emmett and Lorei sitting together outside, their thought warm. I close my eyes. I just can't take it any more. I NEED to get outside, no matter the danger.

"I'm going out," I say firmly to the others.

"Teleporting?" asks Catherine, "But you didn't want to!"

"Changed my mind," I mutter, and disappear, reappearing next to Emmett and Lorei. They both jump.

"Cutter!" shrieks Lorei, "That was very reckless."

"I know," I say stonily, "But I decided that it was worth the risk."
