The Resistance

This is a Storybook with a bit of a twist! It is based on the latest album, The Resistance, by the band Muse. I posted a thread about this idea, and there was interest, so I decided to do it for real! The album was decided through a poll.

Okay, as for the basic plot idea!
You are a young adult from the East End of London and you've had enough of society. Your world just seems to be full of war and hate. You decide to run away, find somewhere else to live and start a new life. You plan this with your friends (The other characters). You don't know where you're going, all you know is that you want to get away. You decide to call yourselves 'The Resistance'.

Why do you want to leave?
There are many reasons you may want to flee. Do you have a tough family life? Have you had enough of school, or work? Are you fed up with all of the alcohol and drugs everywhere you look? Had enough of having to be perfect to fit in? Or do you simply hate where you live?

What lies ahead?
You may have left London, but leaving society isn't so easy. You and your friends can't help but get effected by the corrupted world around you. As you journey into places of the unknown, you meet some amazing people, see some amazing things. But you also meet some horrible people and see some horrible things.

The question is; Do you have what it takes to make it through an unknown journey? Can you survive the harsh reality that is society?

Combining music with words
We will write each 'chapter' or whatever you may call it, based on the tracks on the album. For example, the first track, Uprising, would be about how you realise that society is just a big mess. How you will not let anyone control you, how you are your own person. That is the point where you decide to flee. e.t.c.

Name: Mitchell (Mitch) Oliver

Age (16-21): 18

Gender: Male

Appearance (Picture if possible): Mitch has dark hair with the odd blonde highlight. He has piercing blue eyes and always wears a bracelet his mother gave him as a child.

History: Mitch comes from the roughest part in London. His father disappeared when his mother was pregnant, so Mitch has never met him. His mother then remarried a cruel, abusive man, who physically and emotionally abused him and his mother. Like Mitchell's father, his step father also left his mother by the time he was ten. His mother had to work for a living and look after Mitch. Sometimes, she didn't even have enough money to put food on the table. When he was thirteen years old, his mother was shot and killed in a bank robbery. Mitch witnessed all of this. From then on, he had to live in a children's home, which he hated. It was Mitchell's idea to flee from the East End and find somewhere else to live.

Personality: Mitch always stands for what he believes in, which often gets him into trouble. It takes him a while to trust someone because of his hard upbringing. Overall, he's a really excitable character and always jumps into things head first. The problem is that sometimes, he needs to think before he acts.

Name: Kendra Lewiston

Age: 17

Appearance:

History: Kendra was born into a family where respect is the key. She would get sent to her room if she talked back, later, it grew worse. After her mother died, her father took up drinking. Whenever she disrespected him or anyone else, he would beat her. Soon after, he began humiliating her in public.

Personality: She is a strong, tough girl on the outisde, but on the inside, she is a girl who is hiding from society. She acts braver than she really is, and really just wants to be loved, even though she can be quite rude sometimes.

Name: Connor Whitaker

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Appearance: [picture to come later, if I can find one] Medium height, relatively well-built, with blond hair cut in a near-military crop and green eyes. Favors dark or neutral-colored loose, comfortable clothing, preferably with lots of pocket.

History: As a boy, he'd taken to wandering about East End behind his parents' back to stave off the boredom of always staying at home or at school, where the most attention he got was the occasional glance from his parents or teachers, befriending local, less well-to-do children and getting up to all sorts of mischief. One memorable event involved his sleeping over at his best friend's house for three days, then sneaking back home to realize no one had even noticed his absence.

Until one day he and his friend found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time, got involved in some shady business then arrested. He himself got off scot-free, thanks to his politician father pulling some strings, but his friend got in serious trouble, and he was unable to do anything to help. Not that he'd had a lot of time to do so: his irate parents had noticed him enough to decide he was too much trouble, and shipped him off to the strictest, most regulated boarding school they could. He kept his head down, raged inwardly, and when he came back he was more than ready to ditch the whole gig.

He played the nice, dutiful son for a couple of years, bearing with his father's grooming him to take succession with gritted teeth, bright smiles and closed eyes when he met the associates and acquaintances. Then at the first opportunity, both mother and father gone for a business trip overseas leaving him in charge of the house, he grabbed the cash, the backpack he'd prepared and the handgun not-so-discreetly hidden in the desk's left drawer and ran away.

It's been a year and a half since. He never managed to find what exactly had happened to his friend, but he settled in East End anyway. Things were about to be shaken up, and he wanted to be there when it happened.

Personality: Above all things, he detests being told what to do and not being in control of a given situation. He is meticulous, ruthless and arrogant, sure of himself and not a big fan of compromises. That being said, he gets things done, and well, and he can get extremely protective of those close to him.

Up For Love: Eh, sure. Careful, he bites.

Other: Thinks of himself as Whitaker, not Connor.

Name: Trista Logans.

Age: 18.

History: Trista grew up in an abusive family. Her mother bashed her while her father abused her. She has three younger sisters, all receiving the same treatment. Trista grew tired of the abuse and has decided to run away. Her parents ruled her life until she started to rebel at around 15.

Personality: Trista appears to be strong, cruel and undefeatable but really, she's just a scared little girl trying to find a better place for her then with her family. Trista has trust issues, though these might be overcome sooner than she thinks.

Up For Love: Yes, if she can get past the trust and scared issues.

Other: Is scared of the opposite gender(Boys) and wasn't allowed to cut her hair, which is why it's so long. She almost always wears it in a plait.

Name: Mine Six (formerly Emily Six)

History: Mine grew up in a very conservative household. She is a musical genius, and would sometimes spend a full tow days and nights doing nothing but writing and playing music until her fingers bled. Her parents didn't understand, and basically disowned her when she started wearing black and skipping church to write music. When she became an atheist, hr parents stopped speaking to her all together, and she basically lived by herself upstairs, her parents pretended she didn't exist. She eventually ran away, taking nothing put her guitar, iPod, and plenty of paper and pens with her.

Personality:She is very socially awkward,unless you start talking about music with her. She is a mild depressant, sometimes becoming very withdrawn.

Up For Love: depends on her mood.

Other:she sometimes forgets to eat and sleep and needs reminding

Name: Noelle Leicester

Age (16-21): 18

Gender: Female

Appearance (Picture if possible): Long brownish black hair, dark blue eyes. Tallish, around 5"6.

History: Noelle was born to a privileged (read: very rich) family deeply embroiled in politics. No one's a politician in her family, mind you, but they pull the strings in the government.

Her family expects her to be perfect in absolutely every way. Her life's been planned out for her. Nothing can go wrong. She has straight As, is part of the "in" clique, has access to the hottest parties and can hang out with anyone she wants. She even has a boyfriend picked out for her already. She finds her boyfriend okay, but she's always stiff around him. He's older by five years and barely has any time for her, always cutting their dates short because he has a meeting. They are, however, on the lifestyle section of the newspaper a lot of the time.

Then her older sister Allison, the black sheep of the family who left home to marry a gambler, kills herself and it all goes to hell.

Noelle can't forget how Allison always tried to be like her, always tried to talk to her. She can't ignore the way she blew off her sister when she saw the bruises. Can't forget the way Allison kept calling her phone and how she listened to her parents when they told her to pretend Allison wasn't her sister.

And now her parents are acting as if Allison never existed, and Allison's husband is threatening their family.

The final straw comes when her mother encourages her to cheat on her boyfriend (the one her parents picked out for her) with a powerful politician's son, who was making advances on her. She can't take it anymore and for the first time, refuses to do as her parents say. Then comes the sexual harassment.

Drinking isn't helping. Starvation doesn't either. Even the drugs won't help tear Allison's face away from her mind. Won't help silence Allison's voice telling her to just end it all like she did.

Personality: Noelle is a perfectionist. Everything she does she has to do it right. She doesn't take charge often; she only does so when no one else seems to be doing anything. She isn't afraid of doing dirty work. She is, however, new to the harder side of life and will do her best to avoid fast food and sleeping on the floor.

Noelle isn't particularly strong but she's very charming. She doesn't put on a tough-girl appearance because she knows she's not one and she'll never be one. She hardly ever does anything impulsively because she's been trained to think before she acts. Everything in her life is planned and she most definitely is trying to plan the rest of her already screwed up life.

Noelle is a good listener because she's learned from that mistake.

Up For Love: Definitely

Other: Her boyfriend and family is looking for her since she just up and left with everything she owned, which she plans to sell for cash. She isn't friends with the others before the resistance thing because she comes from a different part of London. She's pretty recognizable in uptown so she always has to hide her face there. In downtown she's still cautious but not as much anymore.

Name: James Milton

Age: 20

Gender: Male

Appearance:

History: James is tired of society, not that they treated him bad. His father was a drunk, and beat his mother, but he somehow turned out to be the dashing, handsome James. But that wasn't enough for James, even though the girls fawned over him, he just wanted to get away.

Personality: What can I say? He can be a flirt. He's been known to lead girls on, but he doesn't really MEAN to. He is very independent and will sometimes offend people on total accident, but he'll be quick to apologize.

Up For Love: Why not?

Other: He is trying to quite his smoking habit.
