Has anyone had any luck using www.lulu.com to publish your book? If so, what are the pros/cons? I expect a link to your work too, I might order a copy.

I don't even know what Lulu is, but you have me curious.
So I browsed around there for a bit, and it seems interesting. But I don't know, self publishing has always seemed iffy for me. I mean, it's basically buying your own book without knowing whether anyone else will buy any copies.

I publish my literary magazine with lulu.com. I like it because it means I don't have to deal with printing and distributing, and as I'm not really in it to make a huge profit, I don't mind that they take a cut of my sales. However it does mean that it's a little difficult to market, as opposed to if you had a publisher to do it for you. It is good though because you can set your work to be downloaded as a PDF file, and I think that has encouraged sales of my magazine. More people bought a hard copy of my magazine when they could download it for free first, than people who bought it when you had to pay to download it.
If you wanna go the self publishing route, it's probably the best thing you can go with. You get lots of control over your book, and (best of all) there's no mandatory charge.
If you want to become a professional author, though, you're much, much better off getting published by a traditional publisher than self publishing.
