Before I start my formal introduction, I thought this was really cute... :elephant: Isn't it???
Anyways I'm Jane and I've been writing (or at least making up stories) since I could understand words. I don't really write a certain type of genre, because I write anything from romance to drama to mystery to a new horror story I'm writing right now. (I think I might post it on here soon.)

So I have a question...
I went on a similar writing forum and they wouldn't let me post a story until I critiqued 20 people, so I was wondering if I had to do that, or if I can post my stories whenever I want. Of course, I'll still critique, but I want to post freely.

Thanks,
Jane

Dude, that elephant is one of the coolest things about YWS! :D

Nah, you don't have to critique twenty times... though if you want to, feel free! :D But! I will warn you! It's hard-coded in the site to only allow you to post two pieces of work on the literary forums per 48-hour period. And this is mostly because some people would post eight pieces in one hour and then complain that they weren't getting any critiques... yeah, it was pretty weird!

Anyway, welcome to YWS! Do you happen to like thermodynamics, or is my engineering mind totally misconstruing your name? O_o

Hiya! Welcome to YWS!

About the critiques...yeah, what Snoink said. Some people here have a ton of critiques and few works, and for some it's the other way around, or pretty balanced. There's really no quota you have to meet.

I also have to agree with Snoink about the engineering-ness... (nuclear engineer here.)

So do you have any favorite books/authors?

Hope you find it lovely here!

Hahaha, to be honest, I have no idea what thermodynamics really is, but if you take the roots of the word literally then it has something to do with temperature?
I just finished reading some classics: Pride and Prejudice and Wuthering Heights, but I really like Sarah Dessen books (my favorite is Dreamland) and sometimes Nicholas Sparks novels are my guilty pleasure. My favorite author is Edgar Allen Poe (I love the Raven and the Pit and the Pendulum, but they're not really books.) and I read the The Help about a month ago when it was #1 on NYTBL and loved it, so I consider it my favorite book now.

Hey, welcome to YWS!!

I think you'll find us to be an odd bunch at times, but (not-so) deep down we're...even odder! :smt005

If you like Pride and Prejudice, might I suggest Pride and Prejudice and Zombies? Very funny take on the classic, with gory pictures to go along with the story!

Anyway, welcome again, and have fun!

I always wonder why everyone finds that goofy dancing elephant so attractive when they join! =)

What are you into writing? I prefer the fantasy, action adventure, and other fiction sections. Favorite authors, movies, songs?
