Fading Away
You are starting to fade away. Right before my eyes, everything about you is slowly dissolving into a blank portrait of someone who does not exist anymore. As days pass. As months pass. As years pass, I cannot see you.
Your face is fading away. Last night, I couldn’t remember what your smile looked like. The slight glow of your amazing blue eyes against a sea of gray and black is all that was left. Your smile, swept clean off your once gorgeous face. The sound of your voice, that once sent chills down my spine, is nothing but a faint whisper against the breeze. Or a tiny murmur breathed softly into my ear.
Your laugh is fading away. The joyous sound that would make my heart sore to new heights, is no longer ringing in my mind. I cannot hear it anymore. I cannot hear anything anymore. I remember you telling me good morning every morning, but I cannot hear the words escape you lips. Everything you every whispered to me in the dark of the night, all the promises and words of such emotion are no longer stuck on repeat in my mind. Empty promises, empty words, and empty meanings.
Your touch is fading away. No longer can I feel your fingertips slowly brush against my arm. I cannot imagine your soft sweet kisses. Your arms are not tightly wrapped around me anymore, a shield from all the bad things, keeping me safe. Your warmth is not lying next to me at night anymore. My bed is cold and empty without you.
You have faded away. It takes too much effort to remember small details now. Time has erased what used to be. I do not keep looking at the door expecting you to walk through. I do not wake up at night thinking you had gotten into bed. The way it felt to think of you is gone. The feeling does not linger as I whisper you name into the darkness or the morning sun. I cannot remember what it used to be like when you were here. It’s as if you never were here with me. You never held me as I cried. You never made me laugh. You never whispered you loved me. You were never here.
Your love faded away. You are gone. Only my hazy memories stand. Soon, those will fade away too. The pain in my heart has faded away. It no longer hurts to think about you. It no longer hurts to be reminded that you are gone. This time, you won’t be coming back to me. This time I am on my own. Alone. Alone with out you has been hard. Nothing is the same with out. But the sun still rises and sets. Clouds still float through the giant blue sky. Waves still roll against miles of grinding sand. I no longer miss you. I no longer need you.
Time went on, and so did I.
