Over the past couple months a member going by the name of Lucy Pennykettle made a series of blog entries and posts about having a twin sister who had leukemia. For those like me who have known people who have either lived through or died due to leukemia, it is a devastating type of cancer. Two weeks ago, Lucy made a blog entry claiming that her twin sister died of leukemia and that she too was diagnosed with it. Understandably, many of us were worried.
This morning, an entry was made in Lucy Pennykettle's blog claiming to be by Lucy's mom. The entry stated that Lucy had passed away last night because of the infection in her body. For several reasons that I won't go into here, a large number of members doubted the story. However, everyone was very worried. Many of us knew Lucy from her activity around the site and considered her a valuable member.
Concerned, I managed to track down Lucy's Mom and Dad, and I sent an e-mail to her Dad to see if Lucy was okay. Thirty minutes ago, I received a response from Lucy's mom.
Lucy is perfectly okay. I do not know if she has a twin sister, but if she does, her twin sister is also okay. Lucy also does not have leukemia and attended school today. To repeat, she is fine.
I know many of you will be understandably upset. Having had a friend die of leukemia when I was young and a cousin nearly die of it a few years ago, I am upset as well for being deceived. Yet, we must keep in mind that Lucy is fine. This should be a relief to all of us who were worried. If you may, also keep her in your prayers.
