As I walk to the beach I notice a bady. It is moving.

"This one is alive!" I shout. I run up to him.

"Are you okay?"

"Sure."

"What is your name?"

"Ben."

"Okay Ben, welcome to the island. Try not to get yourself killed like Percy."

A person stirred next to me, and I felt the steam of fresh-cooked fish close to my skin. It was slightly charred, and I felt queasy at the thought of food. The pain everywhere else had brought hunger to the least of my concerns. Still, I opened my mouth and waited. There was a slight moment of hesitance, awkwardness, then whoever it was slowly lowered the food into my mouth.

"Careful...the bones...should I...?"

Ah, it was the girl who reminded me of lilacs and New England summers, the first voice I had heard. I liked to think of her as an angel of sorts, and I smiled at that. From my side, my hand slowly rose up and touched her skin, pressing it to express my gratitude, then sliding off and onto the flesh of the fish. Fingers numb, I began working at the food.

I was still eating as the aromas began to fade and the fish began to turn cold.

"How do we make a door?"

It was the arrogant one. Mademoiselle Listen-to-Me. I quietly dubbed her Lady Madame in my head.

I felt her presence leave as she went to create a door. A door for a cave! Let us carve windows within the rocks as well. I relaxed as I made sure she was gone.

"What will we do about this now?"

Pause.

"Hmm?" It was a man, thewho had carried me.

"Where are we? How will we get back home?"

After my hunger had been satisfied there was a lot to think about. My daughter for one and how much I missed her and how it might be weeks before I got to see her again. It certainly wasn't going to be longer than that. I wouldn't let it be any longer than that. We could build a boat or signal for help, there had to be people lookign for us and if we left it much longer they might give up. We had to try something.

"Rob, how do you supose we make a door?" Sasha asked. A door? What would she want with a door, what was she asking me for?

"Huh?" I grunted, trying to pay minimal attention.

"How Do We Make A Door?" Sasha's mouth ground out the words.

"Well, um, you could tie a bounch of reeds together," I said vaguely. Bloody woman. Couldn't she leave me in peace?

"What will we do about this now?" one of the girls asked. Her words made a slight impression on my thoughts as I considered signal fires and making words with branches. Those never seemed to work in films.

"Hmm?"

"Where are we? How will we get back home?" Heather asked. I looked up at that. Those were sensible questions.

"We're on an unknown island and we get back home by contacting civilisation. Maybe we try to signal for help or we send one or two people off in a small boat. We'd have to save up provisions for a week as the journey could be long and there may be fish in the sea but not fresh water."

"Do you know how to build a boat?" Heatehr asked eagerly.

"Not a clue," I replied. "A raft I could do but that's less likely to survive the open sea." I shrugged. It was worth a try.

Lacy took a deep breath, held it in for a moment, and released. "Guys..." Everyone turned to look at her, she had been sitting silently until now.

"You can build a raft or whatever, but we need supplies to do that. I for one wouldn't mind looking for them, as long as I can look for a place to take a dip, that doesn't involve salt water. I mean, hey, we're starting to stink."

Everyone stared at her for a moment, "That's crazy! You could get lost, or attacked by some wild animal!" Heather practically shouted.

"Yeah, but if a few of us go together, we can leave trail markers, and there's safety in numbers." She shrugged, "I just hate sitting here, doing nothing and rotting away. Search teams will most likely give up after three days, because we can't survive longer than that without food and water."

She saw Rob thinking about it, "You're right. We need supplies for this, and maybe a relaxing swim wouldn't hurt... if we can find some where."

Voices droned on as they talked of what they could do. Swimming, exploring, leaving. I would like very much to do all three of those. Most immediately the swimming part, of course. My family had never been too orthodox and I identified more as a westerner than with my true background, but I still felt dirty knowing that I had not touched true water in so very long. I would need a deep cleansing as soon as I could.

Oh, when could I? I dared to move my leg and a bolt of fire traveled up that shook my entire frame. I bit my lip to fight it and tried to concentrate on breathing. One, two, three...The shock diminished and I reached my hand down, feeling for the source of that wringing flame. My skin was crusted over with something like sand and blood, grime and pieces of the accident's residue. My forefinger slid over something sharp. Sharp, hard, tinny. I applied a bit of pressure to it, and the fire shot through my body again.

I remembered, vaguely, some bits of advice I had heard, things on never letting alien particles stay in your body, things about digging out bullets no matter how excruciating the pain might be. I measured the metal to about the size of a palm and a half, running down my left thigh.

I could ask for help, of course. But the others were surely busy, and surely they had their own worries. There was more than a hint of homesickness and grief in those voices I heard.

I had survived so many pains. Surely this could be no different. I grasped the jutting part of the metal, arranging my fingers until I was sure of my hold, and then pulled.

My world burst into flames.

The girl Vashi's face seemed to scream in pain as she touched her knee. I left the others and bent down beside her. I took some sea water and washed the dirt off her injury. A piece of metal was in her knee.

She looked shocked when I put the water on her knee.

"Vashi? I am going to try and help you." I said.

She looked panic stricken for a minute. Then nodded.

I saw it wasn't embedded to deep. I needed to do this in one quick movement. I gripped it, then pulled a two inch long piece of metal out of her leg. She let out a cry, tears began to flow down her cheeks.

"Is it out?" She asked.

"Yes." I rubbed more sea water on her leg. It wouldn't do much, but it cleaned it out. The blood mad my vision swim, but I quickly put myself in control. I needed to make a bandage. I looked down at my favorite shirt, sighed, then ripped a long piece off it. I wrapped it around her leg, then tied it at the top.

"Stay here." I said. I ran to get my portion of fish that would have been my lunch. To heal, she would need a lot of food. It was still warm. I gave it to her.

"Eat this." I said gently.

"I already had my lunch."

"But your going to need more food to heal."

"Who's is this then?"

"Mine."

Heather,

The search group was decided, it would be me Lacy and Rob. Leaving Sasha here to help Vashi along with the new guy, Ben. We set off to the left of the island occasionally stopping because of the heat. At about midday when the sun was high in the sky we stopped for some lunch, Rob had brought along some of the fish so we fried and ate that. I swarmed up a tree and knocked down some coconuts and even Rob, who had been adamant that he wouldn't drink coconut milk, downed it in one.

We continued along the beach, too worried to venture into the forest when it was beginning to get dark. We set up a small camp come night time, regrettingt that we hadn't found anything yet, but we decided we would go into the forest in the morning. We made a fire, which would hopefully keep animals at bay and settled down to sleep.

Once I was sure Vashi was okay I started moving the rocks. Ben was an enourmous help, and by the time we were done, most of the movable rocks were out of the cave.

I high fived him, "Good work."

"You too."

I slumped against the wall of the cave and fell into a deep sleep.

Hey, sorry I haven't posted in a while! My home internet is down so I'll only be on every few days...

Robert

It was uncomfortable to be sleeping on the ground. Worse than the cave even and I woke frequently, terrified that I was going to open my eyes and see a wild animal checking me out. By morning I was tired and grumpy and I only mumbled responses to the girls.

"Ready to set out?" Lacy asked.

"Guess so," I grumbled.

"Do you think we'll find somewhere today?" Heather wondered. She sounded annoyingly cheerful.

"Doubt it," I grumbled.

"Something wrong, Rob?" Lacy asked, looking back at me as I kicked dirt over the fire. Yeah there was something wrong. We were pissing and pooping out in the wild with only leaves to clean ourselves on, we all smelled and our search for saltless water was proving useless.

"Nope. All hunky dorey," I drawled. The two girls chattered a while and I kept my trap shut as we crunched through the sand. I eyed their shoes enviously. My feet were starting to hurt more than a little. They were blistered from the hot sand and I tried to walk across grass or rocks where possible.

Heather,

"Hey look, over there!" I pointed through the trees where a shimmering reflected light was coming from. "Do you think?" I asked but Lacy was already running through the trees.

"Water, thank God!" She cried as she made it out of the forest.

"Is it fresh?" I asked dipping a toe in, it was cool and inviteful. Rob dipped in a finger and licked it.

"Yep." He said in response to my question. I smiled, Lacy stripped down to her underwear and dived straight in. I followed but Rob stood on the shore awkwardly.

"Come on Rob," Lacy called. "The waters really nice." He shrugged and pulled off his shirt wading carefully into the pool. He cupped his hands and drank.

"Ahh, that's better!" He said smacking his lips. We all felt fully refreshed and by the end of our swim even Rob was smiling and laughing along with me and Lacy.

The water was great, and it seemed to lighten every one's mood. Lacy was pretty sure that if they followed it downstream, they would find an even bigger pool. For now, she would just enjoy the water. They had been looking for so long that everyone had begin to get edgy, so now was the time to relax.

"Hey, Rob?" She looked over at him. The three of them were resting on the shore of the water before they headed back. "My shoes are a little too big, and they're starting to irritate me...Do you think you could wear them? I mean, I hate shoes." She half shrugged, waiting for him to answer. Lacy could tell that he needed them, but she wasn't going to tell him that.

I woke up with a feeling of absolute lightness. Something had assuaged my pain and now I felt like I could stand up and dance around the world. What had happened?

I ran my fingers down my thigh again. The cut had closed itself up. I pressed it, lightly first, and then firmly, and still all I felt was skin against skin--the pain was absolutely gone.

I remembered vaguely images of Lady Madame handing me food, rubbing my leg with water. That water had stung, feeling like nipping biting insects against my skin, adding to the irritation of the wound. And then I remembered that it could not be fresh, since we had not had fresh water as of yet.

I listened for some shuffling to make sure she was there. She was.

"What was that water you used on me?"

"The water?" Her voice came closer and I felt her by my side. "Salt water."

I tensed. "Salt water is what you use to kill slugs."

I heard her shoulders shrug. "You seem fine. Actually, you seem a lot better. Besides, Rob found you half-way in the sea. The salt hadn't killed you then."

That was true. But extremely strange. I told her so. "Would you think that there is something weird about this water?"

"Weird? As in you think it can heal things?"

I slowly rested my weight onto my elbows and rocked myself gently onto my feet. "I can stand now. That water...I don't know. But I think it's definitely different from what we usually see."

***FOR THE TIME I MISSED I HAD BEEN ROGUE!! NOW THE STEALING BEGINS!!**

I had left a while ago, because of Sasha's bossy atitude. I had been watching. They had not seen. Now...Now it is time to steal.....

I started when they were buring the dead. I took Percy's hunting knife someone had saved. I took a couple of coconuts and some fish. Sasha McBossyPants was buring Percy when I stole the little store of water they had. They had noticed that. I ran before they could find me, safe in my little treehouse, formerly occupied by some monkeys....they made great dinner, YUM!
I am nothing
but a mouthful of 'sorry's, half-hearted
apologies that roll of my tongue, smoothquick, like 'r's
or maybe like pocket candy
that's just a bit too sweet.

I didn't know what to say. I take the last of my fish and give it to her. She needs the food more than I do. Against my will, my stomach growls.

"Your hungry." Vashi observes.

"You need to heal." I retort, harsher than intended. I hadn't eaten in two days.

She sighs, then eats. I have a sudden impulse to grab the food, but resist.

Ben comes into the cave, "How's Vashi?" He asks me.

"Vashi can speak for herself. And I am fine." She said. I rolled my eyes.

"Got any food?" I ask him.

"Some, a few coconuts and beriies." I crask the coconut against the wall and eat egarly. I was practically starving.
