Thaniel,

"Argh!" I cry, trying not to act repulsed, and failing. The fish creature was weird. I mean, it had been weird at a distance, but up close...It hisses at me, thrashing around. I almost let go, but Avery stops me.

"No, Thaniel! If you let...her go, she'll alert a lot more of her kind, most likely."

"Well, then, what am I supposed to do? Drag her around? Yeah, I'm sure that'll work," I say sardonically. I turn to fish lady, "Or are you going to be a nice little girl and do as you're told?"

She hisses, "Not on your miserable life,"

"Okay then," I reply grimly

Cate,

"Owww..." I groaned my hand still holding the fish girls leg. "Thaniel.." I whispered. Thaniel suddenly became aware of me. I had a deep cut in the side of my diving suit and it was staining the water around me red.

"Shit." Thaniel cursed, rushing to my side, handing the arm of the fish girl to Angler. I let go of her leg and tried to swim, but my leg hurt to much. Thaniel examined my leg and turned on the fish girl.

"What did you do to her?" He demanded rounding on her and grabbing her staff. "You have hurt her badly!" He exclaimed bringing his hand around to the fish girls throat. She chocked, Angler pulled Thaniel away. The fish girl spat at him.

"Me healia elle, para tu leavia mia." She uttered in a strange language. Thaniel looked furious.

"We don't understand your mumbo jumbo girl!" He said going to throttle her again. She sighed.

"I can heal her." She said simply, breaking easily from Thaniel's grasp she moved over to me and hovered her staff thing over my leg, the gem glowed green and my leg healed instantely. Wow, I thought, that was pretty amazing.

"I thought you couldn't speak English?" I asked as she finished her handiwork.

"Oh, that's just a pretence I put on to annoy Ora." She said, "I speak English as well as the others, I just prefer the ancient language." She smiled. Thaniel still looked wary.

"Hello Xzah" she said as another fish thing came out of the shadows this one looked male.

Avery

I swam near the girl who had healed Cate. "Thank you." I said graciously, with an almost apologetic sound in my voice. She glanced over at me, wary of the flares on my belt. I gave her a smile.

"We come in peace." I joked, earning a weak laugh from one of the guys. I glanced over at the other guardian who had come out of his hiding place. "This seems like an extreme, unedited version of Atlantis." I laughed at my own joked. Angler sighed. "Now is not the time Avery." he scolded. I ignored him.

"I just have one quick question, what happened when other people, land dwellers, like us, came here. I heard it mentioned before. You lie. Just like the others. What others?" I questioned Alicia.

Alicia,

"Once, other land-dwellers came here, when my father ruled. We accepted them, and looked after them, learning their English and teaching them our ways. But they betrayed us, the took away our platinum. The platinum which you saw above and left. They brought back huge machines to mine the platinum, but we fought them away. Many of our people were killed in the fight. We closed off our city, leaving only one way to enter."

"The crack," one of the female land-dwellers guessed. I nodded.

"So, we don't trust land-dwellers. No-one does, except me and my Father, oh and Xzah here. But he has been around my Father for so long that he has started to believe his wimsical ways. We are also the only ones who still speak the ancient language." I laughed lightly, at one of the female land-dwellers faces, it was the one I had healed.

"So, basically, we are going to get killed by your other fishy pals. And, there is no other exit from this place at all." She tried to joke and failed.

"Don't worry, my Father is the oldest guardian, no-one dares to defy his judgement. So, as long as you are with me, you are safe. And there is another exit, but it is rarely used." I stated, the land-dwellers still looked wary though. One of the male ones, who was clearly the leader swam forward.

"Will you take us to this other exit?" He asked, I nodded and looked at Xzah.

"Are you coming too?" I asked

[[Sorry I haven't been about, guys. I was really busy recently...]]

Xzah

"Absolutely not. We would have to pass through the city to reach the other exit," I replied sternly to Alicia. "We cannot trust outsiders."

"How can they do harm?" Alicia replied. "They are so young..."

"No. Just no. Your father will never approve."

"Then let's ask him," She turned to the land dwellers. "You must wait here- and do not move- lest you be attacked by the others. We will return."

[[Just so that I can use it- I know you based the guardian language off of Spanish, but what exactly are the variations?]]

<<Just make it kind of like Spanish, but make it up. I did :) Just random nonsense really, loosley based around Spanish >>

Alicia,

I swam off with Xzah to speak with my father. As long as I got his consent then the land-dweller would be safe. Then maybe I could go with them onto the land. My fingernails turned yellow with the happy thought. We soon reached our cave, I entered swiftly, Xzah paused.

"He won't bite." I said, "You speak the ancient language, you are a friend of my Father."

"Alicia," my Father said quietly as I entered the cave where he was, "and Xzah too. Marvelous."

"Father?" I began unsure how he would act. "Some, land-dwellers wish to cross the city. To the other exit." He started a little and then settled,

"I see," he whispered. "Do they appear dangerous. I was about to say "No" but Xzah cut across me.

"They attacked as the entered, they used technical things that clouded the water." I rounded on Xzah.

"They weren't dangerous! They were just distractions, so that they could get past us! Father." I said desperately.

"I believe you daughter. I give permission for the land-dwellers to cross the city, but they will be your responsibility. Should they hurt anyone you will be punished by the council." I nodded and hugged my Father. I led the way out of the cave and rounded on Xzah again.

"Why did you do that? You know that the only reason I wan't to help these land-dwellers is because I want to leave the city!"

I am nothing
but a mouthful of 'sorry's, half-hearted
apologies that roll of my tongue, smoothquick, like 'r's
or maybe like pocket candy
that's just a bit too sweet.

[[Ah, too bad. Thanks for participating! :D ]]

Angler

The fishy inhabitants of the city returned shorty. One, Alicia, seemed very eager to take us through. But the other, Xzah, warned us darkly;

"You face temptation and deceit in the city, land men," he said. "One false move, and it will be worth disobeying our ruler for me to eliminate you."

He turned and swam into the depths. I looked at my friends. How would we get out of this?

"Come on, let's go," I beckoned.

Cate,

I looked across at Thaniel. He shrugged.

"One wrong move. He could have been more specific." I nodded, wondering what one earth would be bad enough to get us killed. Then I remembered.

"The last people," I whispered to Thaniel. "They stole the platinum. If we touch it, then well" I drew my finger across my throat.

"So that means..." Thaniel began

"That we can't tell anyone of the other entrance when we get back."

"If we get back" Thaniel amended.

Thaniel,

Ah. Well, it's a dilemma, to say the least. If we DO get out of this infernal city, and get back to Angler's dad, he'll ask us what we found. When we refuse to tell him, he'll get angry, and send more divers to investigate.

"We'll have to say that it was, I dunno, a huge hunk of iron pyrite," I whisper to Avery, Angler, and Cate.

"Yeah," mutters Angler.

"It is the only way..." says Cate gloomily, "So much for our share of the riches."

Angler

We grimly swam into the depths of the city.

Things darted about in the corners. Old walls loomed inward menacingly.

I suddenly caught a glimmer to my right. I looked around. Nobody else had noticed. But what if it was important? I swam toward the glitter, unaware of the group leaving me behind.

Alicia

"This way." I said to the land-dwellers. Urtagh came around the corner.

"Alicia, what are you thinking? We must dispose of these land-dwellers immediately, we cannot have them knowing the... Well we must kill them. Right now." He advanced on me brushing past me to the girl I had healed, I think that she was called Cate. I swam between them and hissed in his face.

"They have permission."

"From who?" He spat.

"My father!" He huffed and turned to swim away.

"The council will not be happy about this." He said swimming away quickly now.

"Phew." Cate said.

There was a silence. "Hey wheres Angler?" A land-dweller man asked. "I would expect him to say something like who are the council? At this point." The girl called Cate nodded.

"We have to turn back, Alicia." She said to me. I shrugged and followed them back a little way.

"Angler?" The land-dweller called.
