((so, I'm trying something new. I'm looking at myself and imagining how I will be in the future and what my future self will think of how I am now. It sounds weird I know, but basically it is just me taking parts of my life, basing a character off of myself and in some ways how I see myself, and adding it to the flair of a story line. This is just the first three Paragraphs. I just started it and I want some feedback on the first paragraphs because they really kind of set up some underlying theme that will be in the whole story. Who knows I might trash this, but I'm actually going to try to write about myself for once so I might not. Just tell me what you think and if I should keep going.))

My Life and other Pitiful Things

By: Rory Legend

Do you know something that has always really bothered me? Those twisty tie things they put in toy’s packaging. Because just in case you want to steal the toy and you make it past the plastic and cardboard and tape without getting caught they really want to trip you up by making you untwist this little plastic strips from around the toy to get it out of the packaging. They just seem like such a useless invention.

I mean, I’m sure they are bad for the environment what with being plastic and bendy at the same time; and they don’t dull the ends of them. Those things are dangerous, they poke your fingers. Then there is the simple fact that they are just so darn hard to untwist. And do they even have a name? How would I search them in Google? Twisty/Bendy annoying things in kid’s toys? I don’t think so. I know they aren’t twist ties, they may be related to twist ties, but they are definitely not the things you use at the grocery store to hold backs of fruits and vegetables closed.

These thoughts raced through my head on Christmas morning last year as I tried to open my younger sister’s fairy riding on a pony toy. My finger tips were raw with frustration and I had thrown the toy a few times. That’s when I realized that if the world was a huge Barbie Dream House before it got opened, then I was just a stupid little twisty thing holding down the book case in the library that Barbie never uses anyway. The thing that really annoys parents when they open the box and realize there aren’t any scissors around and Susie wants to play with her dream house NOW. I had no real purpose and I felt like I was dangerously close to ending up in the garbage can next to a half eaten pizza crust.

Of course the first step of anything is denial. I told myself not to worry because after all I do have over 300 Facebook friends. And that is a lot of friends. So I logged onto my Facebook. I needed a status update anyway. I thought I would look at my Facebook, really look at it and then I would know for sure that I was alright.

I was involved in a lot of things then, volleyball, soccer, drama, and occasionally key club. I had good friends and I went to the basketball games. I even knew that one day I wanted to direct movies. I told myself it was just my daily freak out-mental melt down that I needed to keep life interesting.

And so I looked at my Facebook, really looked at it.
All you need is 20 seconds of insane courage, and I promise you something great will come of it.

Hmmm... Okay. Now I don't exactly get what's going on here, mainly because you're trying to open your little sister's christmas present (which is a 5 year olds toy) and I get the impression that you're trying to steal it, because you were just recently talking about how the twisty tie things were there to stop people trying to steal kids toys. If you are trying to steal your sister's barbie house, then why do you care about facebook friends?

K, wait. I think you should stop and think about what you are trying to achieve here. I know, it sounds like the last thing you want to do, and I never do it myself. I just like to write. So, do you want to have something that's a) funny to read b) seriously thinking about what you thought about your life now in the future c) both d) just for a new viewpoint - I WANT TO WRITE!!!

Okay, so now that you know what you want to do, think about what you can change about what you have. I like your begining. I do that kind of thing a lot - go off on random rants in my head, wondering about origins and proporties and all this kind of weird stuff, and I end up a mile from where I began. Anyways, I like it, because it shows what you were thinking at the time.

However, just reading through the few paragraphs alone, i don't get the vibe that you are looking back from the future. I think what you should do is make it set in the future, and then say something like 'i remember that this time last year I was...." and continue on from there. Then at the end, instead of this whole 'feel good facebook rant' you should reflect on 'how naive' you were back then, or 'how lucky' you were back then... that was you can tell us all of the good things/bad things in your life that you think you will remember in the future.

Like for me, it would be the fact that I'm totally confident about my exam results - coming back in january, but I shouldn;t be nearly as happy as I am, because I ended up failing on or something...

So really, what I think gets me about this peice is the tense, so I think that if you cleared up what the time and place setting of this peice, then you would be all goods.

Well the first thing I have to say is that I just love the title! I always think a good title is important to stories (it was the reason I clicked the link). Anyway, onto ze review...
I actually really liked the first two paragraphs, they made me smile. But I think maybe you stayed on the topic of the twisty tie things for too long - but it was good all the same. I don't like the sentence 'They just seem like a useless invention', I'd put something a little more, I don't know, oomfy (if that's a word).
I quite like the idea of writing something funny about facebook, but you could make it more so. Really get to the core of what that stupendously addictive and utterly pointless website is all about - humour often requires the unashamed truth to work well.
Anyway, I like your writing style in this. Have you ever read 'A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius'? It sounds a bit like that. Great book by the way, much recommended.
There isn't a great deal that I can say about this since it's so short, but my main points are these...
1) Love the style
2) More humour
3) Carry on with it. See what happens next, because you'll probably surprise yourself.

Good luck xx

Hey there!! First thing I'm gonna say is that I loved this. Just outright thought it was amazing.

A) I really loved the way you flowed from one thing to another, its funny and it makes you think. :D

B) The title. Its amazing, haha! It reminds me of all the twitter and facebook crazed people out there that have to update about EVERYTHING. It makes me smile xD

C) Quick Nitpick here (I'm sorry I had to)

grocery store to hold backs of fruits and vegetables closed.

Do you mean bags?

But other than that, I really loved this! Writing like this really appeals to me just because of the humor and how it makes me think and I think it really works for you, you lucky duck! Haha if you post anymore I'll be more than happy to read it, thanks for posting!

Keep up the epic work!
