Hi, Pen! (don't mind if I call you that, do you? :))

First of all, welcome! It's great to see a gazillion people joining YWS every day!

The next thing--rules. Yes, I know, ugh. But anyway, before you become a true member of YWS, you have to be able to follow the rules.

1) The Golden Ratio!! No, it's not the mathematical term. This is talking about the ratio of your reviews to literary works. What does this mean? Well, I currently have reviewed 27 things (for a review to count as an official review, it needs to be at least 250 characters) while I've posted 3 stories/literary works. That means my ratio, simplified, is 9:1. How do you find this out? Go to the Front Page of My YWS. That should help. Oh yeah! It's generally advised to have the ratio be at least 3:1. Even though 2:1 is still OK.

2) No cht spk or TALKING IN ALL CAPS LIKE THIS, PLEASE!! Chat speak is especially hard to understand--along with grammatical/spelling errors, it's a writer's worst nightmare; typing in all caps is rude and annoying--it's not even allowed in most titles of topics anymore. And if you absolutely have to type in all caps, e.g. the story calls for it, then it would be more preferred in the Storybooks section ('cause that's where many action/adventure stories pop up) or perhaps in the General Discussion areas. (Lounge, Randomness, etc.)

3) Please, be nice. This means no swearing outside your literary works, no bullying other members, and occasionally helping YWS out. For example, you could welcome a fellow new member, answer a question of anyone on the site (under Questions/Answers), or even give some comments/suggestions to improve YWS in the Information Desk area.

4) This is important: please rate your works! If the literary work is appropriate for everyone, age 2.5 (I know somebody who started reading at that age) through adult, then you can either leave the rating blank or rate it E for everyone. If some modest language is used or there's some graphic violence, e.g. the 'i' word or fighting monsters, then the piece should probably be rated '12+'. (in other words, PG.) When more moderate language is used, e.g. the s-word, or the violence/inappropriate moments for younger readers gets more graphic, then your work should be rated 16+ (PG-13) at the least. And 18+ is pretty extreme--just a level up from the 16+. (M for Mature) And, finally, R. I think you can guess what this means.

Well, anyway, I'm really so sorry for the horribly long rules accounting-for, so now we go to the fun stuff! I'm also 13 and Asian, so that's pretty cool! I'd like to know, what's your favorite genre to read? And what's your favorite genre to write? Ooh, ooh, I'm hyper!! (Sorry :P)

Anyway, just a quick tip on reviews: they're not that hard unless the piece is extremely short/long. Make sure you leave in some positive comments, as well as what you think could be improved on. Because, as we like to say around here, 'The more reviews you write, the more reviews you'll get!' Of course, there are exceptions...like with my 2nd story...

Hope you really have fun here on YWS! See you later. :D ;)

Hiya! Welcome to YWS!
I see fruit already told you the reviews. I believe the ratio is 4:1 now, though.
No caps, no chat speak, and try to stick to black, except if you are in the chat room.
By the way, check it out! It's a lot of fun!
Mystery huh? Thats fun. My sister reads that.
Horror! Ahh! I have tried to write that, but I failed! Boo!
Have fun on this site and feel free to PM (Personal message) me if you would like and additional help or a review of your submitted work :)
Bye!

Hey PenNPaper, Welcome to YWS! :D

Ooooh! I don't think I've met anyone from Singapore yet :D
Anyway.... Have you seen the Groups yet? If not, they're worth checking out. There are about a million so you're bound to find some that you like and want to join. Don't hesitate in doing so. Everyone is really friendly and welcoming and it's a great way to make some fast friends.
Noticed the different colored names? Black is for the regular users. Blue (like me) is for Greeters. Our job is to greet all of the newbies and make them feel welcome :) Purple is for the Instructors. Their job is to help people become better writers. They review a lot of work and give really good tips on how to be better writers. Light Green is for the Junior Moderators. They moderate only a couple of boards on the site. Dark Green is for the Moderators. They moderate the entire site. Red is for the Administrators, I'm pretty sure Nate is the only one right now. They have complete control over the site. Orange is for the Distinguished Members. At one time they were Moderators or contributed a lot to the site and now they don't really have a lot of time to fulfill all of their duties.

So now that all of that is out of the way...
Are you ready for the extremely hard questions?
Prepare yourself.
If you could meet one author and ask them anything you wanted for an hour, who would you meet? If you could hang out with any band or singer for one day, who would you choose. If you were a plant, what kind would you be and why? If you were a shoe, what kind would you be and why? What is your favorite kind of ice cream? What is your baked good of choice? If you were a marine biologist, what animal would you study and why?

I hope you have a great time here and if you have any questions, feel free to PM me! :D
