Does anyone believe that 2012 December 21st is the end of the world. If so, why?

Nah...there is no way. well one thing is that it does not mean that when the Mayans said that after the time period, there will be destructions (am i right?). all it says is that the time period will end but they don't specifically says what will actually happen..so which means ...nah
John McClane: Drop it. It's the police.
Tony: You won't hurt me.
John McClane: Oh, yeah? Why not?
Tony: Because you're a policeman. There are rules for policemen.
John McClane: Yeah. That's what my captain keeps telling me

Well, hasn't the end of the world been predicted to be on a lot of days before this?

Just like they said that in 3 to 8 years there will be robots with perfect replicas of human brain and the ability to walk and talk just like people. They said that in the 1970s.

Yes, and I also keep elves and pixie dust in my closet.

No. They predicted the end of the world in 2000. Again now. And as Demi said, way before that.

Personally I think it's pretty mean of the Mayan's to predict the end of the world then. I mean, they could at least have held it off until after Christmas? But then again, I guess I'll save money on presents that year; no point buying people something that they'll never recieve.

XD I don't believe that the world will end at that time. I do, however, believe that December 22, 2012 is going to be one hilarious day.

I don't think the Mayans actually predicted >the end of the world<. The Mayan Calendar simply ended on December 21st, 2012. I may be wrong, but... Either way, I think that 2012 will be an important date for us, but in a good way. People automatically think of this as the end of the world, like balls of fire raining down on the earth, or massive tidal waves swallowing up entire cities (like that movie, aptly named 2012), but to me it's just common sense that 2012 is the end of the world as we know it (meaning that something major will happen; the rapture, evolution, aliens, etc., something that will change everything we believe). I can't say what I think will happen, but it's definitely something that won't leave 99% of us pushing daisies, like certain movie moguls would like us to believe.

It could happen - if some fanatical terrorist decides it would be a perfect twist to execute their apocalyptic plan on that day. Otherwise, no. My grandma believes in it though. Some of the stuff she believes is downright funny - homeopathy and healing people by waving crystals around their head for starters.
Q: Where do you go to buy shoes?

I highly doubt the world is going to end in 2012. I agree with Dem. The end of the world has been predicted so many times over the years and none of it has come true. The Mayans probably ran out of paper.

The world could possibly end in 2012, like Hippie said, but the predictions would be just a coincidence. Like the above commenters said, the end of the world has been predicted many times before and it hasn't happened yet. I don't believe man can predict or know when the end of the world will come - only God knows that.

No.
Nobody even knows how the world is going to end, and besides, all of the theories have been proved to be impossible.
