Mid Fall's Charm

Experimentation photographs. Playing around with focus, tell me what you think.

Hey Kamas.

Here as promised

1 - It's out of focus. I think the angle is good and I like how the branch sort of bends into frame and the space around it but it's out of focus and maybe it's some arty thing you were wanting to try out or you thought looked good. I just think that it would have looked so much better if the branch was in focus.

2 - This photo lacks a direction and a focus. It's just a messy frame and doesn't lead your eye through the photo. It is important for the viewer to be directed to what they are supposed to be looking at. Here it is not clear because it is just a mess of branches. Also there is this weird kind of mist or white cast over the bottom half of the photo. I'm not quite sure what that is but it's sort of off-putting and ruins the photo. On the other hand I think it's good that you are trying to think outside of the box and not just take a standard photograph and that you are trying to be more creative.

3 - This photo is probably the best of the bunch because it has a clear subject. We know what we are supposed to be looking at and it is quite well composed. However I think it is a bit too close up. If you wanted to go close you should have gone really close or just not done it at all. There should probably be less of your hand and more of the flower, so that we would just see your fingers perhaps that would have been interesting. Also it is out of focus to my eye but again you are thinking quite creatively, even if the end product isn't amazing.

4 - Again this photo lacks a central subject and it is just quite a messy frame. I am not sure what I am supposed to be looking at. The house? The trees? The flowers? It's quite a confusing photo. Sometimes it is good to frame your photos with branches or plants to add that extra dimension to the photograph but in this photo there is just a little bit too much scattered all over the frame and the flowers are out of focus, so it is quite distracting to the eye but it's good to think about layering your photo with different plains of field to make it more interesting.

5 - This one is interesting. I think I would have liked the photo a whole lot more if it were just the tree and it didn't have the pink flowers in the frame. I refer back to what I said for the last photo. Yes sometimes it can be good to frame your photo but this just isn't working. It is obscuring the tree rather than enhancing it and it's very distracting to the eye. Just this huge pink out of focus blob in the way. So just think about not obscuring your main subject too much otherwise you could ruin the composition and you have a quite nice composition going on here concerning the tree.

So I'm guessing you might be feeling quite disheartened round about now but don't. Like I said you have some potential and you seem to be thinking creatively even if you don't fully pull it off in your photos.

Next time you go out photographing I think you need to consider what the subject of the photo is. Before you snap think to yourself 'So what exactly am I taking a photo of?'. Usually when you have this subject then the composition will come along with it because really composition is just setting up your subject within the frame. You also need to consider how you lead the viewer through the image and be more careful not to create a messy frame that will just confuse. Also be careful about not obscuring your subject too much.

Hello, Bed!! Hope you don't mind if I keep calling you that

1:Okay, although this was blurry I liked how it was focused on the stem of the flower. Maybe perhaps when you get a better camera you can focus on the flower itself, to give it some sort of meaning.

2: Personally, I think this is really bland, but it's still kind of cool how there is a small amount of light at the near bottom. Maybe try to make it more interesting that just green and brown colors?

3: This picture was my favorite! Good job on holding the flower, and that fact that your hands and nails were really clean (unlike dirty nails,ugh!) made it that much better. By the way, nice sweater, looks warm

4: This picture was very interesting as well, but instead of making the trees the focus, I would have made the little cabin/house the main part of the picture. It would have been original, which in my point of view is cool, but, of course, not everything. Good job on this one though. The wire in between kind of ruined it too.

5: This is a really beautiful picture, of course the blurriness ruined it. :/ But it's cool that there are flowers in the trees.

Well you have nice pictures, however they are mostly out of focus. Maybe next time you should use 'macro' if you have that in your camera.

Anyways, they are all very good pictures(no offense here, sorry!), however...

The first picture is really blurry, maybe you should use 'macro' next time. (if you have that application in your camera of cause).

The second one is pretty random, kind of 'off' directions - yes, even though random and carefree direction images can be good... if you're trying to focus on just one thing.

The third one is probably one of the best here because at least I can see what you're taking a picture of, and the flower is pretty detailed. (nice flower by the way)

The fourth one is also off direction, I don't know what I am suppose to look at. The house? The flowers? The trees? But for now, I'm guessing I'm suppose to look at the house... maybe next time, you can focus on one specific thing.

The fifth one is appealing. It's very nice, however the little blur on the bottom center had kind of ruined the moment.

Overall, I think they are pretty good except the first one, and maybe next time you should think about what you want to photograph first before randomly snapping pictures in random directions.

The first one is a bit too blurry for my taste-- it's kind of like I'm wearing the wrong strength glasses. If you resized it smaller that would help a lot. It would also make a nice background if you ever want to do any creative photoshopping.

I love the second one. I think it's beautiful how the focus is sharp where the sharp needles are and then gets softer in the mist. The composition is really nice.

What is going on in the third one? I can't really tell what the black thing is. A hat, maybe? This looks like it would be a wonderful part of a photo, but just on its own it's a little vague. If you were going to do another shot with this subject matter, try stepping back a few feet so that you can get more in the picture.

In the next one I like how foreground, middle ground, and background are all used. It seems a bit incomplete, though. Perhaps if you showed all of the barn?

The last one has such wonderful colors. I really like how it's almost exclusively black, white and pink. The smudge on the bottom is a bit distracting, and I don't think this photo would suffer at all if you cropped it off.

Hey there Kamas. First off, your photos are extremely large. Shouldn't you have re-sized them before you posted them?
Secondly, all of your photos are extremely out of focus. They're blurry, and I cannot tell what the photos are supposed to focus in on. Sometimes it's clear, but confusing. Usually, in a photograph or painting, there is one specific part the viewer is drawn to. Sometimes artists clarify this point by blurring the edges, which I can see you attempted to do, although you did not do it well.
You have a great start and I think a lot of potential to grow as a photographer.
