Raven ejected the expended magazine on his gun and inserted a fresh one. The streets were deathly silent after he downed three zombies that had been running toward him. One of them had gotten real close to pouncing on him. Raven hadn't seen any non-infected people ever since his family was killed by the maniacs.

One thing that he wanted to know was, just how exactly does a hamburger cause a zombie plague? The idea just seemed ludicrous. I mean was it some sort of mutated mad cow disease? My guess is as good as any.

He walked along the edge of a traffic jam. Some of the cars had broken windows. And inside were the decomposed mutilated bodies of people who had been injured in the accidents, and hadn't had the fortune of being helped out, or of evening dying instantly in the crashes.

Raven shuddered just thinking how it must have been like. He was indoors when all hell had initially broken out. He kept his gun at the ready. He heard running footsteps around a corner. They didn't sound like the hunger filled poundings of the infected. They sounded sane and human.

But, the question was... was the human friendly, or was he an anarchist?

(I'm going to post off of AM's post to get this going.)

Bama

She had decided to leave the group, and after much arguing, they let her out. She didn't know if anyone had followed her, because they hadn't made themselves known. Big groups of people had always made her nervous, even before this disgusting plague stuff. Being in the city was aggravating enough, but she had to find her friend.

As for now, she was running through the streets, avoiding zombies as much as possible. She really wasn't sure where to go, but running always seemed like a good idea. There was only a few zombies, thankfully, that actually ran, but even so they usually had some kind of foot-dragging limp. Just keep running....

Raven instinctively raised his gun when a figure burst from an alley way. It was a woman. She crouched down when she saw the gleam of his gun.

"Don't shoot!" she said.

"I-I am so sorry!" Raven called down to her lowering his gun. He couldn't believe it, he had just met a survivor, and she didn't seem dangerous at all.

"Sir?" she said as he approached.

"Don't worry, I';m not going to hurt you," Raven said tucking his gun away. "It's just... I-" he was so filled with emotion that he couldn't finish his sentence.

"You're just glad to see another sane person?" she said.

Raven nodded.

"There's more of us you know."

"There is.. w-where?!" he sputtered.

"All held out in building," she said. "And if you ask me sir, I really don't feel comfortable with a bunch of people."

Raven stopped four steps away from her and nodded. He understood how easily misunderstandings could erupt into violence.

"But, I would be honored if you joined us," she said.

"Thank you... I was afraid I'd have to live through this alone," Raven said, "I lived most of my life alone. I always thought loneliness was something you could get used to. I was wrong, it just keeps on building inside of you until..."

The woman nodded.

I saw the two humans approaching from a distance.

I turned back to the group that had made my small apartment their home, "We have company"

I left the room and went down to the bottom floor, my rifle pushed against my shoulder and the barrel pointed towards the door.

"So have you ever had the shelter found by zombies?" Raven said.

"No," the woman said, "not yet."

They flinched at the sound of running footsteps behind him. Raven clicked his gun and spun around. A zombie hissing like a rabid dog was running toward them. Raven pulled the trigger. His gun did not fire.

"It's jammed!" he said desperately trying to unclog his gun.

The woman was reloading her weapon. The zombie was only a few steps away. Raven still hadn't fixed his gun when he could smell the decay of the snarling cannibal in front of his face.

Bama

A very angry curse escaped her as she realized her shot gun was empty. "Always come prepared." She muttered to herself as she dropped the gun and palmed a small pistol from her hip. She shot the zombie in the head twice, and he fell on the second shot.

The man gasped, and then sighed from a brief moment of relief. "Way too close..." he said.
"Thanks."

"Yeah, it's only natural these days. But we've gotta get outta here, before more of 'em show up." Her thick southern accent stressed now, due to the tension from the close encounter.

"By the way," she said, "I'm not going back there, with them." She pointed the pistol towards the group's hideout.

"Why not?"

"Too big of a group. I'll stick around 'em, but from a short distance. The zombies seem to be attracted to the big groups..." She said, then led him over to the door. "Here. They're inside, but be careful. That man in there has some serious traps set."

Right at that moment, the guy came rushing out of the door, gun in hand.

"We're alright." She said quickly, trying not to startle the guy.

Raven raised his hands. "Easy sir, I just want a place to stay."

The man studied him with bloodshot eyes.

I studdied them carefully. One I knew, but the other I did not. The one I knew had chosen to leave, and I hadn't got the impression she was going to come back, so it was odd that she was going to bring someone else.

"Come on in, we can shelter you for a while. Bama, lead the way, I assume of course, that you still know it."

"I never intended to get blown up, so yes i did memorize were you set your little booby traps."

"Follow me boy," Bama said, her southern accent very prominent.

Raven followed, skimming his eyes all over the floor. Wouldn't it be terrible if he found death by finding survivors?

"Alright, but be sure and warn the others that you've brought new comer," the man said, "We wouldn't want our new friend to be shot."

"Ok, follow me, step by step, or else. Ok?"

The man nodded in response, and they carefully continued across the floor. After crossing the maze of traps, they could hear the voices of the others getting closer.

"Guys...." She said gently, as not to startle them. Bama heard the others get quiet, "Yeah, it's me, and I found someone else." She stepped into the room and waved her hand slowly.

Raven approached the open door, keeping his eyes to the floor. He was rather nervous about meeting strangers. A hundred thoughts went through his head.

Are they friendly people? Will they have enough food to spare? Are they willing to share ammo with me? Do they even have the kind of bullets my gun requires, .45 caliber bullets? If they don't will they lend me one of their guns? How long will they let me stay? Are they organized? Will they sue me as a decoy since they don't know who I am and could care less? Do they even care about each other? Is it best if I just live this apocalypse solo? Do I really want to be alone? Why am I thinking so much.

Raven flinched when he heard a man clear his throat. He hadn't realized that he was standing in the open doorway blocking Bama's way.

"Well, hello there stranger," someone called to him.

"I am.. speechless," Raven said, "I always wondered if I was the last survivor in New york."
