So this is a repost of the previous storybook that didn't work out. It order to ensure that it does work out I'm going to implement some new rules.

Plot- In 2009 someone took a bite of an infected hamburger and became the first zombie. Over the next several months most people have become infected. Now the few humans left have to do what they can to survive the plague. The story will start in NY City. The writers can already be grouped, or they can join together later in the story. In order to make it out of New York City they will have to scavenge for supplies, modes of transport and food.

Rules-

- Your characters are human in every way. They need food, water, rest etc. They feel fear, love, hate whatever. They will be selfish, but they will also have a glimpse of humanity no matter what. Don't forget that a real person never has only one defining characteristic.

-The Zombies are not cute cuddly things that are easy to kill. They are half dead humans with the flesh hanging off their bones and blood dripping from their mouths. I say this because in other stories I've read about people doing flips over zombies. You can't do this is real life, so I don't want you doing this here. Your characters will function as real people in the world do, so try and keep it realistic. Zombies are faster and stronger than normal humans, but they have little to no brain power. The only way to kill them is to incapacitate the brain in some way.

- Age: Just because it can be weird, no one under seventeen.

- No killing other peoples characters without telling me, AND checking with the other person.

- all other YWS rules

-Try and find the other members ASAP

Characters- Im not sure if this is cool with YWS but I think it would be cool to make the profile as close to your real self as possible. Its just a suggestion, you don't have to, but it might be interesting to imagine how well you would handle the zombie apocalypse

Wait, did you mean by no one under seventeen that you have to be seventeen to join, or your character?

Name: Desmond MacTavish

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Appearance: average height and well built. He has dark brown hair and brownish green eyes. He has a tattoo on his left shoulder in the form of old celtic symbols.

Personality: No nonsense. He wants to live, but he is not willing to sacrifice his humanity to do it. He views the apocalypse as a blessing in disguise (see history). He is generally stand offish at first, but once you go through something with him and five him a little loyalty he will give it back to you threefold.

Likes/Dislikes/Habits: He likes music, and he used to play guitar, but he hasn't picked one up in years. Dislikes things that compromise his morals. He has a habit of tapping on something in a nervous situation, which is not what most people consider nerve wracking.

Strengths/Weaknesses: He is fast and fit, he also has experience with weapons. Weaknesses, he will not do anything against his morals.

History: He comes from a long line of military history and so his father sent him off to military school as soon as he was old enough. He graduated top of his class, even though he was strongly against the wars that were going on at the moment. He was in New York for a month of celebration before he was shipped overseas. He was dreading going, because he knew the things he would see would compromise his morals, so in that way he welcomed it, however he did not want all of these people to die.

Other: Up for love I guess

Name: Kasey, but she's known as "Bama"

Age: 20

Gender: Female

Appearance: http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd29 ... e_girl.jpg
(That was the closest thing I could find to what I wanted, I just hate that it's not realistic)

Personality: She's always been a bit of a tomboy. Occasionally, she tends to get a little bossy, when it comes to zombie killing. She isn't very unique, but she's from the country and people often take note of her Southern accent.

Likes: guns. trucks. fast cars. living people, raiding fancy houses. Plantation-style homes. traveling. roller coasters. her red hair.
Dislikes: Zombies, hot drinks, boring movies, drug addicts. Cold weather.
Habits: Talking alot, shooting alot, cutting her hair, playing loud music just for the fun of it.

Strengths/Weaknesses: She has pretty good aim, but doesn't like to run. She's very flat-footed and clumsy.

History: She grew up in a small town in the South, not a very populated area. They believed in God, Guts, and Guns. As a child, she loved to hunt with her dad. Because the town wasn't very large, the disease hadn't got to many people. She traveled to NY to see if one of her friends was still alive, but she wasn't.

Other: She has a very strong Southern accent. Is quite friendly.

Name: Lisa Barlow

Age: 22

Gender: Female

Appearance: She has medium, shoulder-length, frizzy blond hair. She has inquisitive, fox-like brown eyes. Just before you get the idea that she looks like a goddess on earth, she doesn't; her skin is horrible, with freckles, moles, spots, and all that. Apart from that, she looks OK. Just people tend not to look beyond the skin.
She's also pregnant, although in the first month, so nobody really notices. However, if this thing continues, she will eventually be a big handicap.

Personality: Somewhat twitchy, but getting to know her, she's OK. She's good with computers, although offices tend to freak her out. She wishes she were prettier. Or smarter. Or fitter. Or cooler.

Likes: chocolate, clothes that make her look better, people who treat her right. Her gun; a Glock 17, which she took from her dad (who was in the city police)

Dislikes: people who stare at her, bulky sweaters, zombies, being so slow, being a liability.

Habits: She tends to chew on the end of her hair when thinking, or worried, or both. She tends to panic about zombies.

Strengths/Weaknesses: When a slavering monster from hell is charging at her, she's a bad shot. Beware, she may shoot someone accidentally. However, other than that, she puts up with things, even if its just because she wants to be approved.

History: Lisa Barlow was a born office worker; at school, she was always getting things done on time, following orders, not being a nuisance, and generally being OK at everything. Leaving, she was instated in a business's accountancy team, where she fell for a coworker. Unfortunately, that little affair was cut short by the zombie outbreak.
She found herself hiding behind her barricade of a desk, taking shots at the zombies, although she always worries that some of them weren't. After she was quite sure that she was safe, she ran out of the building, with two others, who went to their houses immediately. Her boyfriend was never found, giving her hope, but not much.
She attached herself to a stronger person almost immediately.

Other: Up for love; also, Nadine's friend/older sister figure?
This guy is so evil you could put him in between two slices of bread and call him an evil sandwich.

Coming at you like a jetpack Shakespeare.

It's starting again? Awesome. And I'll have a guy this time seeing a there's an uneven ratio so far. I know that it says make them as close to our real selves but yeah ... it sucks when there are a load of girls.

Name: Frankie Stone

Age: 20

Gender: Male

Appearance: He's pretty tall, about 6'1 and quite slim, albeit muscly. His hair is tousled and sandy brown. He has greyish blue eyes that hold a certain hardness in them. His stomach has a large scar from an old knife wound and he has a japanese tattoo on his right upper arm.

Personality: Frankie is silent, steely and clever. He has opinions on pretty much everything, but rarely divulges them to just anybody. For him to confide in someone they must have earned his trust in some shape or form. He can be selfish, but that's because he's human. Frankie is a good fighter and will always kill zombies if he's given the chance. He can get pretty impatient with people who are cowardly, stupid or incompetent.

Likes/Dislikes/Habits: Likes: Winning, running, occasional reading, music, weaponary, his landrover and good company. Dislikes: Being held up, being told what to do, zombies, losing, people who annoy him.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Strengths: Good fighter, strong, forthright, fast. Weaknesses: Is too slow to trust, can be too harsh when he doesn't like someone, is too stubborn most of the time.

History: Frankie was 19 when the zombie plague hit and had spent most of his life in the rougher areas of NYC. His parents had died when he was 13, leaving Frankie and his brother to pass through a number of care homes and foster families. When Frankie was 19 he decided to leave the care home and live on his own; he tried to take his brother (who was 11 by then) with him, but the care home refused because Frankie had been in a number of fights throughout his teens and was considered too unstable to look after his brother. Frankie left the home, promising his brother that he would come back the next week and look after him. However, his brother was killed by zombies soon after. Frankie is too rational to be blinded by his hate for zombies, he understands that they are animalistic. That doesn't stop him from killing them, however. He's spent the last few months living in an abandoned house in NYC.

Other: Up for love.

Hey everyone! The profiles look nice, so as we are about to start heres some more information so that we're all on the same page

When we start writing it will have been a week since the power went out, and two weeks since anyone heard anything from a government official, the military hasn't arrived, for what reason no one knows, and chaos is generally ruling.

The ratio of zombies to humans is 9-1, so a large amount of the population has been turned. Zombies tend to not like the sunlight, so they congregate in buildings and start roaming about an hour before sun set.

So, to add some semblance of a plot, I think we should all hear of a place where the zombies haven't reached yet, or has simply held them off, our goal would be to reach it.

A twenty-year-old, male version of me... this is going to end badly, I know it. But, is shall be hilariously fun!

Name: Patrick "Pat" Williams

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Appearance:
Spoiler
Untitled.jpg
Untitled.jpg (43.9 KiB) Viewed 305 times

He'd medium length brown hair with wispy bangs that cover his forehead and bright blue eyes. (That was easy. Let me elaborate.) Has a face full of stubble because he rarely finds the time to shave/bathe. He has full, pink lips which are almost always smiling. His teeth are perfectly straight, but really yellow. Angled features. Wears this hoodie almost all the time.

Personality: Very sarcastic. Cracks a lot of bad jokes, with dash of actually humorous ones, trying to figure out what strikes an individual's funny bone. Slow to trust someone, but once you have that trust, it will last forever. You'd have to do something really stupid to break it. Would do anything for his close friends, but has made so many flaky friends is very cautious. Smiles and smiles and smiles some more.

Likes: Poking good-hearted fun at people, breakfast cereal, women, clouds, reading.

Dislikes: Dairy, people who can't take a joke, embarrassing situations, typing on a keyboard, tight spaces, and zombies.

Habits: Exaggerates every other not-so-serious thing he says. Nibbles the dead skin around his fingernails when lost in thought.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strength: Is a very fast runner, especially when terrified. Athletic.

Weakness: Flight, Fight or Freeze? For him, it tends to be Freeze unless he can think to use Flight soon enough.

History: Nothing really exciting. Grew up with his parents who home schooled him, went to community college, couldn't afford graduate school, got a job as a night shifter at a 24/7 Wal-Mart. One night, after the zombies hit, he was with his girlfriend when she screamed. There was a zombie in the room. He ran, being faster, leaving his girlfriend to her doom. Has resented what he did ever since, and now hates zombies as much as fears them.

Other: A total night owl, usually sleeps until five in the evening and goes to bed at seven AM. Uses a large vocabulary to be different; no "like"s and such. Up for love and friendship.

This isn't exactly me, but the real me would be female and thirteen and already a zombie, so I had to make Pat here just a little stronger. Sorry for taking so long, school's been hectic. When do we start?

(I guess I'll start then!)

Bama had always hated the big city. There was way too many people, and way too much noise. Funny, considering how it was the exact opposite now. There was a lot of dead these days, but not quite dead enough. And ever since this crap started, it was way too quiet. Even the little country town she grew up in wasn't this quiet. Never before had the silence scared her, but now it made her extremely paranoid, which was why she was always on the move.

Today, she had found a nice little grocery store to hide in. Of course, when she first arrived, she had to clear out a couple of undead grocery store employees. She had made sure the entire place was empty, locked the front door, and headed to the roof after a little bit of raiding. Every one needed to eat. It's not like these people need it anymore.

Now, she sat quietly on the roof of the building, watching the streets below. Occasionally, a random lifeless corpse would come wandering by. If they didn't notice her, she didn't shoot them. Shooting brought too much attention to her hiding spot. Although, if they got too close to her truck, which was parked in front of the door to the building, she would blow their rotting little heads off. For now, she picked up the CB radio she had plugged to a generator up, and pressed the talk button.

"If you ain't dead and you're lookin' for someone alive and un-infected, I'm here. Bama, out." She let go of the little button and sat back, waiting for anyone.

Nadine
She sank back into a small bench that she found in the park, or what used to be a park. Since the zombies attacked, everything that she fought for and dreamed of, was destroyed. She ahd nothing to fight for now, mybe life but it was useless too. After all, what would be of her life if she was alone in the world with no one at all? Too lonely for her to like it. But she had to bear it, she knew she had to bear it.

So she got up again and grimaced at the smell of her surrounding, dirt, garbage, death. She hated it. She walked slowly though the park, thinking about her past life. It was so perfect, besides tha fact that she never ate, of course. But now she was forced to eat, mainly because she wanted to survive. After all this finished, she would stop eating again.
As she walked, her hand slowly travedled all the way to her hip were a gun was place. she never used it unless it was necessary. All of a sudden, she heard footstps, strange footsteps.
Her hand quickly grabbed her revolver and ran away from the sound of the footsteps. But they were following her. so she stopped and in a swift movement, she turned around to face her persecutor.

*is a little unrealistic, but he does have military training*

Desmond~~

I pushed the bag further up on my shoulders and dropped off the car, the broken pavement crunching under my shoes. The street was mostly empty, only dead cars standing growing out of the broken asphalt. Grass had started poking its head through as well, even though the cold bite winter still hung in the air.

After several blocks I turned down the alley and walked to the emergency access. The steps were rusted from long periods without use. I pulled myself on top of a dumpster and then grabbed the top of a windowsill before pulling myself up further. My body shook and right as I was about to fall I jumped up, my arms stretching as I grasped the lowest rung of the ladder. It was a struggle to get myself all the way up. I wasn't in the best shape of my life, and with the sixty pound pack on my back, things weren't made any easier.

Eventually I got up and followed the stairs to the roof. My apartment wasn't far from here, but I didn't want to take any chances. Going in from the ground floor would compromise the defenses I had set there, and I wasn't entirely sure the zombies couldn't follow smell.

I hopped from rooftop to rooftop down the block until I came to a large building of white marble. There were probably twelve stories, two more than the building I was currently on. I stepped back and then ran forward, leaping out over the space at the last second. My body slammed into the stairs and the breath hissed from my lounges. I slipped a little before catching myself and forcing my body up to the platform.

My chest started to hurt as I neared the top of the building. I guess the impact bruised my chest. That would show me not to carry a large pack on my next expedition. I dropped the bag on the roof and walked over to the hatch down to the lower levels. It was thick metal, and the chain that bound it was almost as thick, which made it good to protect against zombies, as well as people. When he was home it was only locked from the inside, but on all other occasions it was locked on the outside.

As I undid the lock I heard a scream split the winter air. It was not a zombie moan, but a human scream, full of fear and all the other things that the word human entailed. I ran to my bag and unstrapped the hunting rifle. I rolled over to the edge nearest the scream, and poked my head out cautiously, scanning for the screamer. There was no one on the rooftops, but there was a girl in an alley across the street and three men standing in front of her, rifles drawn against her pistol.

I cursed and pulled the rifle against my shoulder. I was going to hate what I was about to do. I centered the cross-hair on the man in the center and pulled the trigger. He twitched once, and then fell. Another turned, and then the bullet smacked into his chest and he fell. The third shot whirled over the mans shoulder. He dropped behind cover. I cursed and waited, my body still hidden from his view. My sights swung around the barrel that he was hiding behind, and when he finally poked his head out I squeezed the trigger and he fell. The girl stayed hidden.

I stood up and dropped the rifle, "It's al right! I'm not going to hurt you!"
