Another Faust (Full)

This storybook is loosely based on the book by Dina and Daniel Nayeri (It has the normal rules that apply for every storybook here on YWS.)

This story is set during the turn of the century in Manhattan.

8 orphaned children, each ten years old, are stolen in the dead of night from everywhere and anywhere around the country.

7 years later, 8 gorgeous teenagers are living with an equally stunning governess in a large mansion. Each teenager wants something so bad, their hearts ache when they think about it.

Each teen has fleeting memories of their past life (usually associated with smells, sights, objects.). Some will remember willingly going with the Governess, while others will think they had been adopted and had lived with her all along.

Their governess, a beautiful but imposing and sometimes creepy, can give them what they want. She has already bestowed gifts upon them that will help them accomplish what they've always yearned for.

Hiding- for the one who's mind hasn't been made up yet, but who's ambitions are still there. This allows the person to freeze time and everything. It allows them to walk around a world frozen in place, the only person or thing animate is them.

Stealing- for the one who wants to be the best at every sport endeavour. This allows them to steal any trait, (i.e. speed, endurance. Not appearance or personality.) for themselves.

Cheating- for the one who who wants to be the best at every academic endeavour. This allows them to read someone's mind.
Beauty- for the one who wants to be the most beautiful person in the world. Allows them to steal any appearance trait from anyone by persuading the other person to give it up. (i.e. "Don't you absolutely hate your nose?" "Yes I do, I wish I never had it." Bingo.) Is abnormally charming.

Lying- for the one who wants to gain a literary reputation that's as polished as Shakespeare's. Allows them to rewind events and change them so as to make the outcome different. (I.e. someone spilled coffee on themselves, rewind, and make sure it doesn't happen again.)

Running- for the person who wants to gain the highest social status. Allows the person to teleport anywhere.

Vanity- for the one who wants to be as rich as possible. Allows the person to cast an aura over themselves that can attract, repulse....etc. people.

Sloth- For the person whose goal in life is to achieve the most, by doing the least. They can plant false memories into people's minds. (i.e. CEO remembers that in fact another co-worker had been assigned all the work you were assigned to do.)

For your character, pick one of these off the list. Mold their personality around it. (One for each.)

These teens are, in all, ruthless and ambitious and tread over many people to reach the top. Each person is forced ahead by their governess who seems to have a little too much interest in what they're doing.

At the turn of the century in Manhattan, it's all about getting to the top, and keeping your social status.

And yes, these people do possess a type of magic.

Here's your character outline, I'm playing the Governess.

Name: Lavinia Valour

Age: Ageless

Situation/History: Can they remember where they came from, or can't they. Elaborate.

Gift: (For a normal profile.)

Gender: Female

Personality: She's manipulative, charming and knows how to get what she wants. She doesn't order her children around with an iron fist, but it seems like you must do what she asks.

Weakness (Must have it.): You'll see.

Appearance: So gorgeous she seems otherworldly. She has long blonde hair, small elegant features, and deep blue eyes. One eye however, is branded with what looks like a cross. The effect is scary but enchanting.



This storybook is mainly about 8 teenagers, living with a powerful governess, who have strange and complicated powers they use to rise to the top. They manipulate, they lie, they cheat. They strike deals with the Governess to get more and more power. But everything has consequences, and nothing is what it seems.

Name: Clara Valour

Age: 17

Situation/History: She was born to regular, working-class parents. She had five younger sisters, her mother was a textile factory worker, and her father worked at a meat packing plant. She was told, at age nine, that she would need to begin to work to help support her family. Clara was furious. Finally, after a year of work, Clara ran away, determined to find her own way.

Gift: Cheating

Gender: Female

Personality: She's arrogant, proud, and self-confident. Clara is convinced of her own self-worth, and has very little conscience. She's snappy and clever, and loves to brag. She will boast, and never tells anyone about her life before the Governess. It is her most guarded secret. She likes to make it seem as if her parents were elites, and high in the Manhattan society.

Weakness: Any type of insinuation that she is less than she makes herself out to be will throw Clara off balance. She will become quite neurotic, and very un-rational.

Appearance: Thick, curly golden hair and bright green eyes. Her eyebrow is almost always raised, and her nails are meticulously kept clean. She is slender and tall, willowy, and has extraordinarily long fingers.

Name: Nathan Valour

Age: 17

Situation/History: With his particular ability Nathan has replaced every bad memory has had with a pleasant one. He does sometimes get "flashes" of his real past, usually vague, view less, sounds that he has no idea where they came from.


Gift: Sloth

Gender: Male


Personality: He's born to be evil. Manipulative and one to bend the rules. With his power he tends to give them impression he is nice by changing what you saw, so most will think of him as just normal. This is just him being worse though, there is no gray with him like most manipulators, he is straight out evil.


Weakness: After so many changes, some of which leaked to him, he is not exactly sure who he is. Torn with in himself he has trouble with memory a lot, and freezes mid sentence a lot.

He is born to bend bars, but not literally. He is not a fighter in any way, and if in a fist fight he would only be able to run. Usually tries to make contact and get enough time to make them forget what they are doing, but it is hard to do it mid fight.

Oh, and since all of them were "adopted" by the Governess, their last names are automatically Valour. Sorry to confuse you guys.

I call Beauty

Name: Elle Valour


Age: Well, she is 17, but sometimes looks older, sometimes younger depending on what traits she recently has taken.


Situation/History: All Elle can remember is the Governess adopting her at a young age. Other than that, she's completely blank, although sometimes flashes of a time she doesn't know of come back. The only things those bring to her though are headaches, and she doesn't truly look too deeply into them.


Gift: Beauty


Gender: Female


Personality: Although Elle acts beautiful, innocent, and child-like, she's really quite sharp. Underneath her facade, Elle is cruel and manipulative, yet is always trying to find herself. The only part that really remains with her when she grabs someone else's characterizations, is the utter longing for perfection that she cannot reach. Since the image of perfect beauty is always changing Elle is changing too. She's down right charming though, and most boys get starstruck when they're around her.


Weakness (Must have it.): Since her appearance is constantly changing, Elle doesn't really get a chance to know who she is. Her mood swings are great, although everyone loves her because of her abnormal charm. Sometimes Elle can be a bit petty, since all she wants is to look good.

That's what she looks like currently, but she's always changing along with the times. She's recieved many awards for her beauty, but is never satisfied.

name: Maya Valour

age: 19

history: other than remembering the adoption by the governess. Maya had an accident where she fell from a cliff and left a scar by the corner of her eye as well on her right arm.

gift: stealing

gender: female

personality: Maya is somewhat tomboyish. She acts tough and does not want to be overlook by people. She hates people telling her about her scar. She also loves to look and observe people. She enjoys to get abilities as a way to have fun and to discover on her ideal ability

weakness: she cannot see well and she cannot properly use her right arm. Even if her ability has change, she still cannot see well in which she hates.

appearance: short medium size hair, green eyes, black hair..the right side of her hair is dyed red.
