Grace Hurley

This was going nowhere fast. Grace sighed and sunk to the floor. That last injection must have only been a partial dose, because she was starting to feel the effects again. It was so soon.

"Please? Can I just have the injections that I found fairly for myself? I'd be happy to send you in the direction of ten other storage facilities in the hospital and another seven around the city." Grace nearly begged. She hoped they wouldn't notice the weakness in her voice. They could easily take her down now.

"Why? We already have these ones," the girl named Jenna waved a few around. One fell from her hand and shattered on the floor.

Grace watched, wide-eyed, as it happened. "How could you be so careless!" she yelled. "You need those as much as I do!"

Jenna

She looked down on the floor to where she dropped it. Then to Grace whom was sitting on the floor. She wasn’t sure if she should give the injection to her or not. She would be much happier keeping her chained in the basement.
“Yeah, but we’ve raided those already.”
They had been to one of these, they had indeed raided it. She was bluffing, trying to sound smart. Though she seemed to be failing. Still in the desperation of this Grace she seemed to believe Jenna.
“Yeah, but I’d much rather see you chained to a pole in the basement.”
She grinned. Grace looked at her as if she were insane. Sure Jenna agreed that she was starting. She didn’t like talking about how she had been bitten. Still it was true. She giggled. They had a little over two hundred injections sitting in the improvised medical room. Then she had made her decision. She dropped the injections on the floor intentionally.
“Are you crazy?!”
She shook her head.
“Nah, we’ve got over a hundred here.”
All I can hear; "I me mine, I me mine, I me mine". Even those tears; "I me mine, I me mine, I me mine". No one's frightened of playing it. Everyone's saying it. Flowing more freely than wine. All through your life; "I me mine".

Jesse

The survivors watched, all seeming as appalled as Jesse was, when the injections shattered on the floor. "Are you crazy?!" Grace shouted at Jenna.

The other girl simply shrugged, "Nah, we've got over a hundred here."

"What the hell were you thinking, then?" Jesse yelled at her, "Why'd you have to do that if you had so many spare? Why couldn't you just return them like she asked?" Normally, he wouldn't get so heated about such a subject...but his little sister and his dad had been turned, and were wandering about, forced to hurt people, and in terrible danger of being killed for good. If this Grace person could find a cure, he could save the two of them.

He took a step forward, addressing Grace now, "You say there're unsecured storages in the hospital?" Glancing at Jenna, he continued, "I'm sure they couldn't have raided all of those. Maybe we could secure one, you could use it to continue your research? Personally," he said, looking at Jenna again, "I think the only scientist among us would be of more use doing her work than chained in the basement for no reason."

Claudio

Claudio felt like he was about to scream when he saw all those precious, precious injections shattering on the floor. Each one, worth four days of life, and she'd just thrown away so many! He calmed himself just in time, though. This is just another trial. I have to pay attention to what's been given to me here.

He ran over the last few moments of conversation in his head. He now knew that there were up to seventeen untapped stores of injections around the city, he didn't really believe that if they'd all been raided, there'd be no more than around a hundred left.

What was more, there was someone here who could find a cure. Someone who could actually deal with his affliction, who could make it so that he could start to focus properly on eradicating this new race of zombies.

But he'd have to survive long enough for that, and who knew how many injections there'd be to share around? If there were only a hundred or so, like Jenna had said... Well, that cure could take a long time to find. Maybe he'd have to budget, make sure there were enough that he'd survive.

I walked on the cold ground 'till dawn the next day. My feet sore by the end of it. Each step that I took my boots made a soft click as they hit the ground.

I came across a few Zombies on my way, slaughtering them all, and adding to my memory bank of numbers.

When I had arrived at my destination - the local town hall - where I heard that there was rebellion forming, I surveyed the area. There were traces of Zombie everywhere, and hundreds of dead corpses lying on the ground, most were carelessly killed, as if the survivors where in a hurry. I studied a few of the bodies, many where decapitated, and some seemed like amateur kills, perhaps their where a few young survivors around, or perhaps untrained ones that just got lucky.

I tried to slip into the hall inconspicuously, but all entrances were barricaded shut - perhaps these humans were more intelligent than I thought. After checking twice over all the entrances, I had no other options, but to make them aware of me, or risk the chance of being caught by Zombies.

I decided upon the latter.

After studying the building for a third time, I cam across a rooftop entrance, that had evaded my earlier scans. I could not get inside, as it was bolted down, and shooting it open would risk causing too much noise, but it made a great window.

I peered through the glass, and below me stood a large group of figures. It was indeed a large group of survivors, but would this be enough to form a rebellion against the Zombies? surely not. There was of course the chance that they where instead looking for the cure, but they would be useless to me.

There seemed to be a rather large cause of disturbance among them, they were arguing over something, something I couldn't quite make out.
Mo. was here. :) mwahahaha

He rushed forwards when he saw the injections fall to the floor, then he heard her bluff about raids. He gave her a good shove. In his eyes you could practically see the pain. Then he grabbed onto her. He pulled her downstairs into an also improvised holding cell. He tossed her in, and locked it behind him. From there he walked upstairs and into the break room. He found a post it note, and a pencil. He put the post it note on the wall and wrote:
I’m going for a walk, if I turn into a zombie, then either kill me, or use me to test the cure on like a rat.
From there he walked out, half unhappy, half disoriented. So much had happened so fast. He opened the doors and walked outside. He managed to make it into the middle of the street. Then he randomly collapsed. This could be seen clearly though the doors. He laid there, eyes open for a minute. He felt himself dying each breath of air he took. Then little by little he felt himself getting stronger. But with this new strength came a great hunger. The hunger for human flesh.
“That would be rather… no I… but I…. Her.”
He was still on the ground. Sill, motionless, waiting for the perfect time to get up. He found, despite the fact that he was rotting, his sense of both smell, and hearing had improved. He could only see through a blood red haze.
All I can hear; "I me mine, I me mine, I me mine". Even those tears; "I me mine, I me mine, I me mine". No one's frightened of playing it. Everyone's saying it. Flowing more freely than wine. All through your life; "I me mine".

Hey, I wrote this one night just as an idea, tell me what you think. Don't read if you don't want to.

Spoiler
“I’ve found that the what we call a ‘zombie’ is merely a mental retard: the ‘cancer-cure’ infected the brain to the point that all real human behavior –personality, love, feelings, emotions, advanced cognition– recedes to an ‘attic corner’ of the mind, leaving only animal instinct and pure reflex to govern the body.”
The state of ‘zombie’ implies that the infected person is within a group of mental disorders, as common as OCD or anxiety disorders. This group of disorders is characterized by psychological or behavioral abnormalities associated with transient or permanent impairments in brain function. The disorders have different symptoms, depending on which area of the brain is affected and the progression of the disorder. I.E. if the occipital region of the brain is affected, sight is impaired; for the cerebellum motor activity is impaired.”
Now organic damage to the brain can result from a disease or drug that directly damages the brain (in this case the rabies drug), or from a disease that indirectly damages the brain through effects on other bodily systems. So we’re basically looking at a mental disorder that has nothing to do with souls, cellular change or anything of the like.”
I do find the green skin hard to explain away, though, but I have a theory: the brain corrupts so far as to obstruct skin-bound blood. The result is dead and gangrenous epidermis, but no pain is felt on the infected’s part: hence the high pain threshold.”
You can see here on the screen that I’ve isolated an infected region of this zombie’s brain –I borrow the crude label for convenience. This part of the brain, Broca’s area, is related to speech; thus an impairment of said area would result in our subject’s total or partial loss over his words, whatever language that is.”
Watch what happens when I stimulate his brain with an extremely high-frequency electro-shock”

“You saw? Or heard, I hope? He spoke –for one moment– and barely an audible sound, yes, but that proves these are not just mindless killing machines. Let me explain: I can ‘push back’ the virus bodies impairing his speech-region brain cells. To do so requires an extremely high frequency, one on the level of the virus’s own, and results in the curing of his ‘zombie’ state.
This is all indeed a good start, but the entire brain is infected, and the subject must be stimulated for an extended period of time for a permanent effect. The amount of electricity needed (I estimate) would be around one to two gigawatts, equivalent to a powerful bolt of lightening…in short: a tremendous amount, and –as of now– unattainable.”

Sounds interesting, I could work with it :) What does everyone else think?

Grace Hurley

Grace sighed heavily and stood up. "Obviously my attempt to secure myself the provisions to save the world was a foolish and unsuccessful attempt," she said. "So, I'll be seeing you. Take care to avoid my personal supplies in the future or you can be sure I won't be there to save you when you turn zombie."

And with that, she turned and left the room. She couldn't waste time with these childish survivors and their ridiculous waste of life, she had research to do.

Lucikly, the trip back to the hospital went about as easily as her trip earlier that day. Not many zombies were rumaging around the area, which was odd. Whatever, it's not like I care about the doings of the infected.

Grace finally returned to her sanctuary and, after making her rounds to each secure edge of her safe zone, returned to her work. She quickly became enthralled in the sample of zombie flesh she was observing under her high powered microscope and forgot all about the fatigue she had felt earlier.

"What's this?" she said aloud. The sample had begun, at one end, to revert back to the state of human flesh. "Impossible..." she mumbled. It had been several weeks since she had recovered this particular sample. It just didn't make sense.

Grace jumped up and went to where her other samples had been kept. She checked each sample gathered previous to the one she had been viewing. Each showed signs of reverting back to human states.

Grace leaned back in her chair and stared at the ceiling, and contemplated her latest findings. What could it mean...?

Daniel

He felt strong. Strong enough to stand up. His hunger was stronger. As he stood up he felt every last bit of humanity drip out of him. All he could remember was that he was hungry. A feeling he knew would never die. Still he had to try. He had to eat. He staggered towards the door of the town hall. He pushed on the door. Nothing happened. It wouldn’t push open. Then he clawed at it. As he clawed at it he ended up pulling it open. The door had been left unlocked. Jenna gasped as he staggered into the break room.
“He hasn’t been bitten!”
She saw no bite marks on his body. No blood to show a reopened wound. She took a step away from him. She had her hand on her letter opener. She couldn’t force herself to take the step forwards and attack him. She had backed herself into a corner. She watched as Natalie tried to duck under his extended arm to get towards the door. He had grabbed onto her hand and bitten it. She let out a yell of pain. He bit her deeply. Jenna ran forwards and slashed at him. He released Natalie and gripped Jenna tightly. He bit into her shoulder. He sank his teeth deep into her shoulder. Then he ripped out a good chunk of her shoulder. She let out a wail of pain. Natalie just stared for a minute. Then she turned around. She ran upstairs, she couldn’t kill Daniel.
All I can hear; "I me mine, I me mine, I me mine". Even those tears; "I me mine, I me mine, I me mine". No one's frightened of playing it. Everyone's saying it. Flowing more freely than wine. All through your life; "I me mine".

I stared in shock as Daniel stumbled into the room. "He hasn't been bitten!" Jenna cried. I looked at him and saw that it was true; there were no marks on his body at all. Jenna backed into a corner and clutched her letter opener in her hand. I stared at Daniel. I can't do this...

I ducked under his arm in an attempt to get out. He grabbed my hand. I felt his teeth sink through my skin.

I screamed in pain and shock. I saw Jenna run forward and slash at him with her letter opener. Daniel released me and went after Jenna. I stumbled backwards as he bit Jenna's shoulder, tearing a chunk out of it.

I ran upstairs, clutching my bleeding hand. I raced into a room and shut the door, barring it by propping a chair against the knob. Then I sank to the floor, staring at my hand. Red blood oozed out of the wound. I just stared. The tooth marks were perfectly visible. Pain surged from the bite, but I ignored it.

No, no, no, no... This can't be happening!

But as I looked at it, the cold hard truth hit me like a hammer. In just a few days, I'll be just like Daniel and my dad.

I burst into tears.

Berlin - Survivor

Suddenly the warm coffee-and-donuts atmosphere was shattered by a bloody girl breaking into the room, screaming something I couldn't understand. Realizing that whatever she was freaked out about wasn't good, I swiftly looked around for an escape. The skylight caught my eye and i lunged without thinking, grabbing the sill with my left hand and gripping my cross-blade with the other.
Another girl just above my head nearly startled me into letting go, but there was such a commotion now below me that I couldn't do it. her eyes, wide with fear like mine, stared down at me as I hung pathetically on one arm.
"A little help?" I ventured, feeling -as I spoke- my sweaty hands slipping.

((This is Berlin if she falls! :thud: >< nevermind! So random!))
