I hope you like my story. Let me know what you think, I don't care if your a mean reviewer, but please review. I wanna know what you all think. :P

I'm sitting on the curb, in the rain, drinking from a bottle of vodka. Looking for my purple bracelet.

I can see someone walking up the path towards me. It’s either a really good-looking guy, or a magical walking mushroom. I kick away the empty bottles of cheap wine at my feat and try to look not so much like a drunk. It gets closer and bends down, turns out he's a really hot guy.

"Need a hand?" he asks, his voice a velvety music to my ears. I take his hand and he lifts me to my feet; which are bare, as I ditched my heels a while ago as I ran from my pursuer.

He leads me away from the curb, and as we walk I study him; he has light brown hair that falls in curls around his face, it is cut to the average length, just on his ears. His eyes are a dazzling deep blue that I could lose myself in for hours. He has a masculine build, one that women swoon over, and his jaw line is much defined. To me, right now he is an angel, or the closest thing too one. The alcohol in me gives him a light glow. He seems to be checking me out just as thoroughly as I am him, I see his eyes look me up and down, and he seems to be impressed.

We walk past a closed down shop and I check my self out in the mirror. I have light gold-blond hair that was straightened to perfection (before I set out for the night, who knows what it looks like now), my eyes are a light hazel, and my curves are something I am very proud of, but unfortunately I'm a whole 5'2", and, lets just put it this way, I hate my nose.

I lose my train of thought when he starts asking me about what happened. He takes the bottle out of my hand, with surprising strength, and puts it in the nearest bin.

"What happened to you?" He questions.
I shrug my shoulders and put on a confused expression, there is no way I’m telling him what happened, without putting up a fight.
"Where are you staying?" He asks me instead.
"Um... I don't know," I'm tired, and really I honestly have no idea where I’m staying, or who I'm staying with.
"I guess I could book you into the hotel ‘round the corner." he seems to be contemplating the words as he says them, but I'm just too drunk to notice anything out of the ordinary, I mean, who helps a girl find where she's staying? a stalker, someone who's interested in the easy target says my higher reasoning. With a little shake of my head I ignore myself and continue walking.

We walk to th hotel ‘Paradise Palace’, and he lets me sit while he talks to the receptionist. He is handed a key card and leads me to the lift. We go to the third floor, and I'm booked into room number 315. He leads me inside and lies me on the bed, for a second I think he is going to take advantage of me, I mean, seriously, who on earth lies you down on a bed, when they’re not romantically interested? In an instant I'm thinking of ways to get out of here, but to my surprise he leaves me there, alone.
"I'm in the room next door, 313, don't be afraid to call me if you need anything, OK?" I'm completely dumbstruck, but not for long. My head hits the pillow, and the haze thats been following me around for the last half our is engulfed in the darkness of sleep, I'm out.

My dream replays the nights events, only this time I’m watching myself, and not actually experiencing it first hand.
She starts out at a bar on the other side of town, but doesn’t seem to be drinking much, a purple bracelet on her wrist. When she walks home it doesn’t take her long to realize she’s being followed. She never looks back at the man following her, even though, I know she knows he is there. She turns the corner and he watches very carefully. He pulls out a mobile and makes a quick call before rounding the corner himself. I only hear a little of what he says “Alley way......... girl......... one we’ve been looking for........ back-up.” Meanwhile she crouches in the shadow of a dumpster. He walks with purpose down the dark, putrid alley-way. She removes her shoes from her dainty feet and breaks the heel off one wil a loud SNAP. Her breathing slows. He walked forward carefully. Many louder footsteps accompany him before he walks to where he is most vulnerable. When he finally gets within her reach, she lunges out towards him, taking the easy target. Without hesitation she plunges the makeshift weapon straight into his arm, in doing so she loses her purple bracelet. She then hits him over the head with the heel and he gets knocked out, seconds later his back-up are charging down the alley way towards her. She sprints off into the darkness before they can catch her, and runs till time means nothing. When she finally feels she is out of immediate danger, she crouches down on a curb, the smell of wet asphalt filling her nostrils, retrieves her vodka, along with some cheap wine, from her purse, and decides it’s time to have a drink.

The next morning I woke up breathing heavily.

Hi! Lilica here ^^

I just did a very detailed review for this, but unfortunately I pressed something and everything vanished...
I'll just go over the main points:

So, this is good and interesting. However...

 The first sentence isn't the best hook. I suggest just saying that the MC is in the rain, drinking vodka, which creates more questions open in the reader's mind and makes them want to read on.

 Your dialouge needs revising. Basically, you need to make sure to always make a separate line when a new person's speaking, and make sure that the punctuation is correct. Here's an example:

He takes the bottle out of my hand and puts it in the nearest bin. "What happened to you?" he questions, I shrug my shoulders and put on a confused expression. "Where are you staying?" he asks me instead, "Umm... I don't know" I'm tired, and really I do not know where I was staying, or who I'm staying with/near. "I guess I could book you in at the hotel round the corner." he seems to be contemplating the words as he says them,

Reading this, I was confused as to who as speaking. It should look like this:

He takes the bottle out of my hand and puts it in the nearest bin.
"What happened to you?" he questions. I shrug my shoulders and put on a confused expression. "Where are you staying?" he asks me instead.
"Umm... I don't know." I'm tired, and really I do not know where I was staying, or who I'm staying with/near.
"I guess I could book you in at the hotel round the corner." He seems to be contemplating the words as he says them,

If you have any questions on this, feel free to PM me, and I'll help as best as I can! :D

 Try to avoid parentheses. They are mostly uneccesary, and look unprofessional. I noticed them a few times in your piece, and I think you could either shift the information inside them to a later time, when more relevant, or get rid of them all together. It's up to you :smt002

 I noticed, at one point, you used 'their' in the place of 'they're' (except I can't find it anymore! But I'll explain the rules anyway):

Just to make it clear, 'they're' means 'they are', whereas 'their' is something possesive that more than one person has. I'll give you an example of the two:

'Each elephant marched slowly, their feet exhausted' :elephant:

'"They're tired elephants," said Fred.' as in 'they are tired elephants'

Sorry the examples are really wierd, but it was the first thing that came to my mind.

 I noticed some of your sentences were really long. Try to cut them down, so as not to overwhelm the reader.

 I'd like to know more about the main character. Right now, we know they're pretty and vain, which doesn't really make me like them. I want to feel for them, not hate them. Unless that was the effect you wanted to give? Whichever way, I still want to know their personality a bit more.

 Finally, avoid putting more than one question mark/exclamation mark at the end of sentences. I noticed one case where you put three question marks. It's important you change that to one, as the power should be in the words, not in the punctuation that follows. :smt003

Okay, so think over those points, seeing as this piece has potential!
You need to make sure the grammar's correct - especially the dialogue. Also, I found a few typos, so read through it again. I think I saw the words 'straightened' and 'step' that were spelt wrongly. I'll leave it up to you to find them.

Keep writing, and hope I helped! :smt003

Okay, I'm your twin so I'm going to be mean :D

I'm sitting on the curb in the rain drinking a bottle of vodka.

I like this opening line, it caught my attention.

I can see someone walking up the path towards me; he is the most gorgeous thing I've seen all night (though that might just be the alcohol talking), as he gets closer my heart flutters. When he reaches me he bends down.

Okay, the alcohol is influencing her vision, good.

"Need a hand?" he asks, his voice is music to my ears. I take his hand and he lifts me to my feet; which are bare, as I ditched my heels a while ago as I ran from my pursuer.

Pursuer? What pursuer?

He leads me away from the curb, and as we walk I study him; he has light brown hair, that falls in curls around his face, it is cut to the average length, just above/on his ears. His eyes are a dazzling deep blue, that I could lose myself in for hours. He has a masculine build, one that women swoon over, and his jaw line is very defined. To me, right now he is an angel (funny enough he has a white glow around him).

The alcohol makes him appear to have him a white glow? cool :D

He seems to be checking me out just as thoroughly as I am him, I see his eyes look me up and down, and he seems to be impressed. I have light gold-blonde hair that was straightened to perfection (before I set out for the night), my eyes are a light hazel, and my curves are something I am very proud of, but unfortunately I'm a whole 5'2".

She's short, cool, but what are her other flaws, she seems too perfect. If she is complaining about her being short she probably can't defend her self because some-one can just pick her up and carry her away.

I lose my train of thought when he starts asking me about what happened. He takes the bottle out of my hand and puts it in the nearest bin.

Does he force the bottle out of her hand, or is she in a weakened state and can't be bothered fighting for it?

"Where are you staying?" he asks me instead,
"Umm... I don't know" I'm tired, and really I do not know where I was staying, or who I'm staying with/near.

Get rid of the bold bit, it looks weird.

"I guess I could book you in at the hotel round the corner." he seems to be contemplating the words as he says them, but I'm just too dumbstruck to notice anything out of the ordinary, I mean, who helps a girl find where she's staying? a stalker, someone who's interested in taking advantage of you says my higher reasoning. I ignore myself and continue my walk with this mysterious, god-like, man.

I've put the word dumbstruck in bold. I think you should put drunk. This is because if she was drunk, (which you have already implied) this would already make everything she did somewhat confusing. And she has already noticed a lot out of the ordinary, and that's why she's dumbstruck. So why is she too dumbstruck to notice something out of the ordinary?
And her higher reasoning is pushing through the fuzz of the alcohol, but she waves these feelings off?

We walk to a hotel located just around the corner, and he lets me sit while he talks to the receptionist. He is handed a key card and leads me to the lift. We go to the third floor, and I'm booked into room number 315. He leads me inside and lies me on the bed, for a second I think he is going to take advantage of me. In an instant I'm thinking of ways to get out of here, but to my surprise he leaves me there, alone.
"I'm in the room next door, don't be afraid to call me if you need anything, OK?". I'm completely dumbstruck, but not for long, within seconds of my head hitting the pillow I'm out.

You have said take advantage of me already, (not much earlier and it seems a bit repetitive). Maybe in the earlier bit you could say; she is having doubts about this man. or something, try not to repeat.

I start out at a bar on the other side of town, me and my friends are having a good time, and I'm refusing to drink much
.

You have put and too many times. You could just cut it (the one I put in bold).

I'm getting ready to pack up and go home when someone decides they will follow me.

Some-one decides they are going to follow her? maybe just delete this bit, because later you have also said, she realises someone is following her, don't make it too obvious before it happens.

I begin my walk and soon I realize I'm being followed,

So, she's being followed twice? (see my point).

I never get a look at my pursuer and I refuse to look behind me.

Why does she refuse to look behind her???

When I reach the part of the my journey where I'm supposed to walk down a deserted alley-way I keep going,

Why is she supposed to walk into a deserted alley way, no-ones telling her what to do. Unless the pursuer is her stalker he won't know where she needs to turn to get home either. This doesn't really make sense.

He takes the one more step, the step I needed, and I lunge for him.

You point out before that there is more than one person. Do they spread out and search the area because they can't see her? And is she just taking the easy target?

Ah, so even though she hates being short (and and helpless - even thought you didn't mention that) she can still kick but...

(actually the heel of my shoe dipped in a tranquilizing liquid).

What tranquilising liquid, and does she just keep a spare bottle in her bag?

He was out within in seconds and I made my escape, the others followed me. At one stage one of them managed to rip my dress (my poor, poor dress). I eventually managed to get enough of the tranquilizer on them that they all get knocked out, don't ask me how I did it, but I managed. Lost and lonely I sat on the curb and retrieved my bottle of vodka, I'm not sure how long I sat their, but it felt like eternity.

I'm still confused about the tranquiliser.

The next morning I woke up breathing heavily.

This ending sentence is good.

As a whole: I liked it, but a lot of it was repetitive and didn't make a whole lot of sense (maybe that's just me). It needs a lot of work and fixing up stuff here and there, but I liked the plot. Expand.
Mo. was here. :) mwahahaha

Okay, Eve. I liked how you retold what I was wondering about in the beginning: what happened earlier that night. But it didn't seem like a dream. I don't know it just seemed like she was telling it to someone. Maybe have her watching the whole thing??
There were also a few stray commas at the ends of some sentences instead of periods. And a few sentences that weren't capitalized. If you reread it you will be able to see them.

Good job and best of luck. PM me when you post more, please :D

I enjoyed this much, and would like to see how it plays out.
I like how the guy actually has a form of chivalry, because your character's right most guys would take advantage of it not book two separate rooms. Maybe reword the dream part a bit though? it did kind of sound like it was being told instead of being able to picture it. Other then that kudos for drawing me into your story ^.^

Hey Genevieve! New to YWS? Welcome! Call me Stella. I wrote a story a few months ago for a contest on YWS about a girl called Genevieve- but everyone called her Gina. Random.

I. NITPICKS

just above/on his ears.

A slash? Really?

thing too one.

thing to one.

lets just put it this way,

let's.

"Where are you staying?" he asks me instead,

Full stop at the end.

"Um... I don't know," I'm tired,

Full stop after no.

‘round the corner." he seems to be contemplating

Capital h.

a stalker, someone who's

Capital A.

My dream replays the nights events,

night's.

even though, I know she knows he is there.

No comma after though.

Okay...

III. CHARACTER

I want to know more about her MC, right now she's kind of flat. I know this is a short story, but that's no excuse not to develop her! Even little things, does she drink often? Is it unusual for her? How does she generally act in times of trouble? Does she wish anyone in particular was there to help her?

Try and let us into her head a bit more, give us an idea of who this person is. Until then, we can't feel for her, she's just some woman who stabbed away down an alleyway. And who wants to read about that?

III. TYING UP

There were some ends left untied, such as what the man meant by back-up? Was she a criminal, was he the police? I'd like to see more of that. And what's the guy doing, just staying the night in the hotel room next to hers? Does he not have a home to go to?

Something else- when she's as drunk as you give us to believe, he's not going to find her attractive, is he?

IV. OVERALL

topic44898.html This is an article written by the wonderful Demeter on dialogue punctuation, if you want to remind yourself of the rules.

Other than that, this wasn't too bad. I liked the signifigance of the bracelet, but I think the characters were a bit thin- as were their motives. Overall though, good job!

Hope I helped, feel free to drop me a note if you need anything at all!

Hey,
This was very interesting. I liked how you retold the story and sort of gave the reader a recap of what happened earlier that night. The only thing that was confusing was this random hot guy. Where does this guy come from? Who is he? I understand she is drunk and although her better judgment tells her not to go, she does, but why? And in the recap, you say that she breaks a heel but you don't say that she takes her heels off. And is she really running for almost an hour with one heel intact and one off and a purse on her arm? A purse weighed with a bottle of vodka, that is? And if she was in a bar, why did she have a bottle of vodka? Most bars have a rule, no bringing outside drinks in. Why was she in a bar if she had a bottle already with her?
But really, since I'm done nit picking, I'd like to say that this was interesting and I liked it. Really, I did. I loved the descriptive way you told the story. How you made her confuse a hot guy with a mushroom. It was genius. And then the way that you sort of put the reader in the girl's mind and let them see her every move. Good job. Keep it up. And may I ask, is there going to be a second half to the story? I hope so. I'd like to see what happens next to this drunken girl who last falls asleep in a hotel room with some strange man in the next room over(:

Hi! I liked your story! But i also felt it could be much, much improved...

The girl was drunk. She said that she wasn't noticing the details. But then how come she grasp her and the man's emotions and features so precisely? She even saw and remembered the number of the key the manager gave to the man.

I also felt the story line could be improved. And i think the story will sound much better if you add more emotions into them.
And do leave spaces between dialogs. It becomes very difficult to read.

Also, i found the fight scene between the girl and her 'pursuer' illegible in the story.

I feel you should add a bit more of details, like what was the girl doing in the alley and why where those men after her.

Overall, i found your story quite cool! Do inform me if you plan to write any more stories.
Good Luck! :smt039

Hello. I'm Jayleigh and I'll review this for you. OH OH OH it's 11:11!!..ahem. sorry. Off I go...

I'm sitting on the curb, in the rain, drinking from a bottle of vodka. Looking for my purple bracelet.

Thanks for telling me. Now can you show me? Have her actually take a drink or something. And describe how it feels going down her throat. And, "Looking for my..." is a part of the sentence. It can not stand alone like that.

I can see someone walking up the path towards me; it’s either a really good-looking guy, or a magical walking mushroom.

Excuse me? What makes her think its a flipping mushroom? Does she blink back rain drops. Vodka doesn't make one hallucinate.

He gets closer, and it turns out it’s a really hot guy. My heart flutters. When he reaches me he bends down.

When you're drunk, anyone can seem hot. What does he look like...how many of him are there? You know what I mean? Buy a pair of drunk glasses and look at a hot guy and describe him...you can't.

which are bare, as I ditched my heels a while ago as I ran from my pursuer.

WHAAT? Bluntly pointing something like that out?? Oh my...

He leads me away from the curb,

What about this man makes your MC think its okay to follow? I mean, she did just get attacked?

I see his eyes look me up and down, and he seems to be impressed.

Impressed by a drunk chick that he found on the sidewalk? Maybe if he paid her fifty an hour.

I have light gold-blond hair that was straightened to perfection (before I set out for the night, who knows what it looks like now), my eyes are a light hazel, and my curves are something I am very proud of, but unfortunately I'm a whole 5'2", and, lets just put it this way, I hate my nose.

...why are you telling us this? Maybe she should see herself in a reflection in a window or something, then show us.

there is no way I’m telling him what happened, without putting up a fight.

She feels compelled to follow him, but wont talk to him? I'm confused.

staying?" he asks me instead,

Period, not comma.

"Um... I don't know," I'm tired,

Period at the end of her sentence. Not a comma.

We walk to a hotel ‘Paradise Palace’,

we walk to THE hotel. not a hotel.

Within seconds of my head hitting the pillow, I'm out.

I think you should elaborate a little more on how she just passes out.

Okay, this is interesting. I was a little nitpicky, but that happens from time to time. I'm not sure what that guy was up to. He was way to overly helpful for his own good. That stuff just doesn't happen, you know? I dunno. Good luck with this.

Sorry this has taken me so long. I'm not sure if this is what you originally wanted me to review but it's all you had in your profile except for 'deleted' so... :)
You don't have to review something of mine back if you don't want, but if something interests you, go ahead. :)

Genevieve :P wrote:I'm sitting on the curb, in the rain, drinking from a bottle of vodka. Looking for my purple bracelet.

I'm a fan of kind of chopped up sentences like this, so I liked this opening.

Genevieve :P wrote:I can see someone walking up the path towards me; it’s ((me. It's)) either a really good-looking guy, or a magical walking mushroom.

A magical walking mushroom?

Genevieve :P wrote: He gets closer, and it turns out it’s a really hot guy. My heart flutters. When he reaches me he bends down.

By saying 'he' at the beginning of this you already are saying it's the guy, not the magical mushroom. Unless the magical mushroom is sarcasm, not a drunken thought. :)
I would rephrase the last sentence and combine it with the sentence before it. Maybe try something like, 'My heart fluttered as he bent down in front of me.'

Genevieve :P wrote:as I ditched my heels a while ago as I ran from my pursuer.

So there was a pursuer yet she is sitting on the curb drunk.

Genevieve :P wrote:He leads me away from the curb, and as we walk I study him; he has light brown hair that falls in curls around his face, it is cut to the average length, just above/on his ears. Are you a Twilight fan? Cause this dude is starting to remind me of Edward. And he's helping a damsel in distress, aka, Bella.

Genevieve :P wrote:"What happened to you?" he questions, I shrug my shoulders and put on a confused expression, there is no way I’m telling him what happened, without putting up a fight.
"Where are you staying?" he asks me instead,

Period after 'he questions'. New paragraph with 'I shrug'. Period after 'me instead'.

Genevieve :P wrote:but I'm just too drunk to notice anything out of the ordinary, I mean, who helps a girl find where she's staying?

If you were too drunk to notice anything out of the ordinary, wouldn't you be too drunk to realize your too drunk to notice anything out of the ordinary?

Genevieve :P wrote:When she walks home it doesn’t take her long to realize she’s being followed. She never looks back at the man following her, even though, I know she knows he is there. Reminds me of Bella in Port Angeles.

Genevieve :P wrote:She then hits him over the head with the heel and he gets knocked out,

That's gotta be one big, heavy heel. :)

Characters:
I've already mentioned that they sort of remind me of Bella and Edward. If you've never read Twilight don't worry about it, but if you have, and you were thinking about them even a little as you were writing this, I'd be careful. It's not a gross similarity yet but I'm just saying. :)
Let's talk about the girl, I don't think she has a name yet right? I don't really feel much for her yet. She kind of sounds a little whiny to me. I would build her up more, give her some good qualities and some bad ones, but more good than bad, so she seems a little more real.
Now the boy. He's a little too good to be true. He's this sexy guy that helps out a little weak, vulnerable damsel in distress with no strings attached. Very Edwardy. I just have a feeling he knows something about these guys that were pursuing her.

I'm going to leave it off there. You've got a good start here, don't get discouraged! :D
