GRAYSON

His head was pounding. He kept thinking of Maria. In fact, he hadn't felt like getting up and going anywhere. He hadn't even smiled or cracked a joke sense he told her they couldn't see each other. Which was so unlike him.

Grayson gripped his pounding head as he kept seeing Maria's smile or her betrayed face. Grayson gripped his hair in between his fingers and pulled, pulling out a handful of hair.

"Damn it!" He yelled, throwing his glass of water against the wall of his room.

He missed Maria. He wanted her back yet he kept thinking of the Rogue.

"I don't a part of any of this," he muttered. He remembered when Miguel had tried to run away from it all, taking Grayson with him. Yet, he had been killed by Krissy before they could escape.

"I just want this all to end," he muttered, slumping against the wall. "I'm tired of it all."

It was near midday now, but thankfully, the sun was not scorching the earth's surface. The weather was warm almost perfect for a picnic. The grass still felt a little moist from the morning dew, but the smell that the flowers gave today was incredible.

He had been thinking, distracted the whole morning, playing with the ring he found. He grew desperate as the morning went by, the idea of marrying Krissy had been haunting him all day.

"Umm, Krissy?" he asked her, lowering his gaze because his voice sounded shaky. "Umm, are you up for a picnic?" he finished the sentence fidgeting. I have never fidgeted!!, he thought. but there is always a first time

Krissy looked at him with a suspicious glare, narrowing her eyes . "Ok, that would be nice" she said slowly.

"Ok, then, I'll get prepared" and he threw the ring to the pocket in his pant. Your time will come.he thought. He went to the kitchen and grabbed some bread and food while Krissy was looking for the blanket and the basket. But he was getting nervous by the second, every now and then he shoved his hand in his pocket just to play with the ring. All of a sudden, he even began trying to find a perfect phrase to say to her.

"Krissy, I-I, would you marry me?" He muttered. You suck, no wonder why she's your only girlfriend, he thought. But Krissy interrupted him.

"Are you ready?" she asked with her sweet voice. "I took a bit more so we can give Maria if she comes back" she said. He nodded, looking at her for a moment, admiring the girl he so much loved, until he quickly moved towards her and kissed her, a bit desperately he knew for a normal kiss but all of a sudden he gasped, staring into her eyes and the question came.

"Krissy, would you marry me?"

I eventually headed back to the house, still wrapped in my thoughts. Then I heard five words. Five words that would change Krissy's life forever.

"Krissy, would you marry me?"

I froze outside the door, waiting to hear Krissy's answer. All other thoughts cleared from my head like dust in the wind. They'd be back though.

My eyes flew open at Daniel words. I should feel my heart pounding inside my chest, and I smiled from ear to ear. I jumped into his arms, hugging him tightly.

"Of course Daniel." I whispered into his ear.

Leaning back, I smiled at him before pressing my lips against his excitedly.

He was elated, his heart no longer fitted in his chest. She kissed him, but before they could continue, he shoved his hands in his pocket once more to get the ring out, but he chose to keep it, just in case there was a wedding.

"I love you" He whispered to her, kissing her again. Nope, damn ring is screaming to get out, he thought, letting out a smile as he got out the ring.

"This is for you" he said. It was obvious that she was going to stare at it, the ring was beautiful, it was pure gold with rubies in it.

"This is beautiful Daniel!" She said, exultant. And at that moment the door opened strongly and Maia came in with a smile on her face.

Staring at the ring, utter delight blossomed in my chest. It was beautiful, three small rubies on a dainty golden ring. I threw my arms around Daniel, the ring glinting on my hand. I turned to see Maria in the doorway, a huge smile on her face. I ran over to my best friend bashing into her with a massive hug.

"I can't believe it!" I exclaimed, my voice happy-pitched and happy.

Maria hugged me tightly.

"I'm so happy for you dearie." she smiled.

I embraced Krissy tightly. She seemed so happy. Over her shoulder I could see Daniel standing there awkwardly. After a moment I broke the hug. "You both have my blessings." Then I looked Daniel in the eyes. "Remember what I told you." My voice wasn't threatening, but it had the slightest warning in it. I smiled at Krissy again. "I'll be upstairs if you need me." I began climbing the stairs.

Kayla rushed into the dark tavern. Almost immediately there was a shout and the sound of a struggle.

"Damn it!" I swore. I shoved the man away from me and slipped through the open door.

Someone grabbed me roughly by the shoulder. I twisted away, lashing out with my knife, and the hand dropped from my arm. Lorraine ran in, daggers glinting in both her hands.

"Get them!" a hoarse voice shouted. I jumped back as someone lunged at me and banged into a wall. It was all dark, and I couldn't see who I was fighting or where Kayla and Lorraine had gone. Something knocked the knife out of my hand, and someone grabbed me roughly from behind. I tried to pull away, but something splashed into my face. My vision went dark.

It was a trap, I thought despairingly, just before I passed out.

He well knew that Maria meant no harm, all she wanted was the best for Krissy. After much celebrating and laughing and just being happy, Krissy suddenly went serious. He didn't know why it was but something he didn't want to do was interrupt her or bother her.
But he didn't need to, for she quietly came to him and wrapped her arms around his chest and whispered to him.

"Daniel,I-I-ve' been planning" she said and he knew that those plans weren't exactly for their wedding if there even was one.

"an attack?" he asked.

"Yes, something like that, I mean I can't seem to see a way to attack them all together" She said, sinking back in a chair.

It was then that the memories of his days with the Rogue came back. IN that instant, he actually tanked the years that he had worked for the Rogue since they were going to be quite useful.

"There's a tunnel, a pretty small tunnel. It is said that they were used as catacombs I don't know" Daniel said but Krissy just stared at him with a confused expression.

"just let me finish. You see, that tunnel connects directly to the main chamber. to the Court. It starts in the street near the tavern where Lorraine used to work. It's smal entrance barely noticeable"

And in her eyes he could this sense of expectation that made her glow and he loved it, he loved helping her in any possible way.

"Where do these tunnels lead?" I asked, extremely curious.

"They lead to a secret doorway. There are stairs behind the door that lead up to a hidden platform, connected to the rafter ... beam things that support the ceiling. It's easy to hide up there." smiled Daniel.

I beamed at him. "It's perfect! Absolutely perfect!"

I kissed his cheek and ran upstairs to Maria's room, parchment and quill in hand. Maria looked up from her seat curiously, and smiled at me. I handed her the parchment.

"Draw me the most detailed blue print of the Court you can. I have an idea." I sat down beside her, watching her begin to draw intently.

I looked at Krissy in surprise, but nodded and began. I was working off of memory alone. After about ten minutes I finished. It was a very good blueprint. I found that while I had been working on the blueprint my mind had been off of Grayson completely. As soon as I finished his face flashed through my head. I swallowed and handed Krissy the blueprint. "This should be very accurate, unless he's done renovations since I was last there," I said.

The low murmur of voices woke me. I sat up quickly, gasping when my head start spinning.

"She's awake," Kayla said glumly.

I was sitting in the same bed I had lain in all those weeks after my fight with Krissy and her friends. Kayla was sitting on a chair, looking depressed, and Lorraine was leaning against the wall. She had a long scratch on her face and Kayla had a nasty looking black eye.

"What happened?" I forced out, licking my dry lips. "It was a trap, wasn't it?"

"Not exactly." The Rogue stepped forward from where he'd been standing, unnoticed, in the corner. He looked furious, as usual. "I thought I told you to stop interfering with those gold miners!"

"But you told us to go find them and get revenge!" Lorraine protested.

"You idiots!" the Rogue snarled. "It wasn't the gold miners who wrote that message! It was that Krissy girl and her pathetic little friends."

"You said she was dead!" Kayla exclaimed. "I killed them."

The Rogue glared at her. "Apparently not. My more reliable spies saw them sneaking out of the city after killing my guards. If you hadn't been off on a wild goose chase around the city, you might have seen it."

"A wild goose chase?" I said angrily. "We found the hiding spot of those counterfeiters! We almost had them tracked down!"

"You stupid girl! Those counterfeiters are mine!" the Rogue said. "Who do you think thought of the whole thing? Why do you think Gryk was in on it?"

"But... " My head was aching, and I couldn't think straight. His words weren't making any sense. "Why would they threaten to kill you? Why didn't you tell us?"

The Rogue narrowed his eyes. "It was a business deal gone badly," he said coldly. "My partner got greedy. He wanted all of the money for himself, so he thought he would kill me. I was just getting ready to... dispose... of him when you three burst into that tavern, waving your knives around. Luckily, my people recognized you and just knocked you out, instead of killing you."

Lorraine and I exchanged disbelieving looks. "Seriously?" I asked. "All that time we were running around the city, hunting for information, it was really you who was the leader of that scheme?"

"Yes," the Rogue said. He walked to the door. "You nearly ruined everything. What would have happened if you three had been killed? But it's over now."

I examined the blueprints. Daniel had been right, there were rafters we could hide on. I smiled and hugged Maria, excitedly.

"Why are you so excited Krissy?" she said surprised.

"I'm going to get married firstly, secondly I've just thought of the perfect plan to kill the man we've been trying to kill for a while now." I giggled.

"What!" Maria's eyes widening.

I laughed and ran out of the room down to the desk. Dipping the quill in ink, I began to plan out a day that would finally change the city.

I watched Krissy hurry out with excitement in her eyes. I remebered how happy I had been when Mason had proposed. I saw that same happiness in Krissy. I hope this works out for her better than it did for me. I thought. I held my head in my hands as I saw Grayson clearly in my mind's eye. Get over him Maria; there are more important things going on right now.

I couldn't do it.

Lorraine.
I ached, my whole body ached and for the first time in my life, I hated the Rogue. He lied to us, betrayed us almost. I could hardly believe what he was saying when he said it.
Jas was better now, Kayla was punched in the face and my face was scratched. We were all injured, and I doubted he cared if we got killed or we didn't. All he cared about, and fought for was him and his reckless ideals. But we were involved in that, somehow blinded, by that.
I sank back in the bed next to Jas's and placed my hands in my face. I closed my eyes and fought back the tears, the tears of rage that were suddenly fighting to get out. For the first time in my life, I considered if I was on the right side. Somehow the memories of my brother and his last words came back to me.
"We're fighting for nothing,Lorraine. All he wants is his own good, he doesn't care if we die, or we killed each other. If I'm going to fight for anything in my life, it would for the sake of those whom I love, for my ideals, not for some insane caprice of that man. Lorraine there are better things to fight for."

But Jas interrupted the thought. Somehow I was glad that she did, because it was starting to hurt.
"Can you believe it?" She asked Kayla and me. "He almost killed us"

"He has his reasons" Kayla said quietly, with her head low.

"He could have told us!" Jas protested. "He could have easily told us" She was getting a bit too excited and she just couldn't right after being beaten like she was.

"Jas, calm down, he...must have his reasons" I said, repeating Kayla's words silently. But it felt like if I was lying to myself.
