Ok one of my main characters name is Demetre. This is an untraditonal way of spelling Demitri. So I'm wondering which one you guys like better.

Also I need a name for a jerk. So the name needs to make you think of a jerk. Here are some of my ideas.

Vaan
Sebastian
Bastian
Kellan
Adam

Note his last name would be Pendragon

I like "Demitre" for some reason. More phonetic in how you say it, I find.

But if given a choice I like "Demitri" slightly better. "Demetre" I can misread as "Demeter" so it has the possibility of being confusing.

And for the jerk, I say "Vaan" (with "Kellan" in second place, although I find that name a bit girly)

I have a character named Demetry in my book. Personally, I would go with that our Demetri just because it's more familiar. When I read Demetre, I know it's another way to spell Demetri, but like Rosie said, it can easily be misread as Demeter. It can also be misread as a females name like da-meet-tra.

For the jerk, I would say Kellan. Vaan is unfamiliar to me. I've never heard that name before so I don't really know what to think of it. I love the name Sebastian. I have a character named Sebastian too and I love him. Whenever I hear that name I think of him and he's not a jerk, (well he sort of is, but not really). :) Bastian to me is just a nickname of Sebastian. Adam is too common. So that leaves Kellan. I don't know why, but Kellan just seems like a jerk to me. :D

I have a Sebastiene and I always think of him as really sweet. Like Bastion in Never Ending Story (Is that the movie I'm thinking of?) or Sebastion in The Little Mermaid. Its too lovable a name...
I think Vaan is a good jerk name... If its unfamiliar then your character doesnt get all tangled up in the reader's mind with what they think a Bastion or Adam should be.

Mm, I like Demitri and Kellan, maybe Adam. Sebastian is sort of over-used, I think, although it's supposed to be rare, and Bastian sounds too much like an unkind name.
:P
"Let's eat, Grandma!" as opposed to "Let's eat Grandma!": punctuation saves lives.

I voted for Demetre just because.
