Okay. In this third and final part, I'm going to talk about how you write good, distinct, unique characters in your novel / short story without making them sound the same.
Note: I think it is a given that you write all of your ideas about your characters down in a character profile BEFORE you start writing. However, I'm sorry about not being clear about that in my previous parts, but you should write all the info down - personality, likes, dislikes, etc, etc along with a picture of your character.
1. Having Them Being Confronted With Realistic Decisions/Conflict.
Conflict has to be a part of every novel, does it not? Your character will make choices, sometimes insignificant, or sometimes very important. Example: In The Dark Night, Batman / Bruce Wayne either had to turn himself into the Joker, or someone would die every night. You don't always want to make the decision you would make. That's a common mistake. But rather, read between the lines of character profile. Get to know her as much as possible, and even if you absolutely hate what your character is going to do, If that's truly your character's desicion, put it in.
2. Dialogue / Traits
People always talk in different ways. Maybe your character has a lisp, or an accent. Also, certain people have traits when they feel a certain way. For Instance, My Character, Madeleine, always looks down at her feet when she feels uncomfortable.
