So, I've been working on this project in secret for the last couple of months and I wanted to try and get my MC, Karmen, down on paper. So here she is, sorry she's a little big. The upload quality isn't the greatest cause I don't have a scanner so I had to take a picture and use my camera. Anyways, hope you like.

ps. I believe in the review for a review system. ^^

Nice start Lily! Psh, it's not too big.
This is a good drawing. My *main* problem is proportion issues. The first thing that hit me was that her head is reeeaallly really round. Real heads are a bit more angeled, especially in the chin area.
I commend you on the shading, it's great! The lines on the shaded side of the nose are a bit too sketchy.
Her lips are a bit fuller than what's natural. xD
I know pupils dilate and stuff, but her's look a bit like cat eyes, very slanted and stuffs like that.
My final nit-pick is the neck. The shading is nice, but it looks like she has this giant dent in the middle.

But! This is a very nice sketch!

*applauds*

Hi,
This is a very nice start but... needs work. First off, I would like to say that I applaud you for getting her eyes fairly close to the middle of her face.... some forget that detail.

Her head is off shaped. There needs to be more dimension in her chin area. her lips need to be balanced more, not botoxed.

Overall there needs to be more shading. Even if you are the whitest person alive with anemia, you are not the colour of a white sheet of paper. Shading helps that.

Even though she is young, she still has folds in her skin, I suggest that you look at people either in photos or even your self, especially around her mouth and eyes. Speaking of eyes, unless she is a cat or a substance abuser... there's no need to have her pupils that dilated.
creating pictures of your

I think that covers it. I like the idea that you are creating pictures of your characters, this might help bring them to life.

I hope I wasn't harsh.

Ok, review time.

First of all the face is way to round. It needs shape. If you pull the chin inward when you come to it will give that effect.

Second the eyes. I like them, but one is a little bigger than the other one. Also the colors are different so it's like looking at two different eyes.

Third the hair. It just kinda shoots out in odd places, and doesn't even connect to the scalp. I think it could be a little bit flatter and give it some spunk.

Fourth the mouth. I like this a lot. It could use something to make it ummm...I don't know stand out more I guess. The thing that could fix this is color. If you colored it in it would be magnificent.

The only other thing I have is that she has no clothes or anything below her hair.

Oh well that's my first review in like a week so haha I did my best.

All of luck to you.

Great work. I *LOVE* translating my characters into art. Along the same lines, I often find it terrifying. I mean, I have this mental image that is so well-constructed and concrete. It can be difficult to get that picture out of your head and onto paper. It's something I tend to do in moderation, and with a great deal of caution.

Like the others have said, you have a great start. The biggest thing I would say is to analyze faces. Sit and look at your friends. Scroll through pictures on MySpace, FaceBook, Flickr, Google... I dunno. Just find a place to look at faces.

Right now, you have a picture of what a face would look like. Realistically, it's not a face, but a picture of one, and I'd imagine that what you want is a face. I hope that makes sense... Anyway, when you draw a face, there is so much more than lines. For instance, look at lips. I do a lot of self portraits, and my bottom lip is never created by a line. Instead, my lip is created due to the shading that is made due to the way it sticks out, ever so slightly, from my face. Similarly, lines intersect, or don't always extend to an end. I guess my biggest suggestion would be experimentation. After looking at some faces in great detail, try to recreate the dimensions of that face using your pencil. Use the lines, shadows, and shade variations to create a face, and not just a picture of one.

This can be quite a challenge- one I know all too well- but it can be oh so rewarding once you finally get it. You have an excellent start! Good luck!!

Heya!

Okay, you've shown the emotion in her face amazingly well. Emotion is the hardest thing in a drawing. There's that little something that needs to be included. Here, though, if your intention was for her to look forlorn, that may I say you have done a brilliant job. :D

Shading. Shading is needed quite a bit more. Darken the shadows!! Really darken them! To make it jump of the page, you need more contrast between light and dark. The eyes are the darkest here, abnormally dark. Don't be afraid to go black in some places.

The lips also have lie. Little crinkles. The only way I can draw is if I get a photograph, base it on that, then let my imagination take over. I've posted one on here called Portia and I used Cristine from Phantom of the Opera ^^ Doesn't look anything like her though....

Please, keep drawing!!

Your = Possession. Your shoes are so sweet!
You're = Omission. You're quite strange...

If you are confused about which to put, simply say in your mind "you are" and see if that fits the sentence. If not, you are looking for your.

Hi Lily,

That's one nice drawing you did. You put the emotion in so that's.
The nose is a bit strange for some reason but it's good for a start.
I agree with emma the shading is needed quite a bit more shading, but that's alright for a start.

the hair is a bit thin because you did lines you should make them a bit fat.
for the pipe thing at the neck (the middle of the neck you can see some pipe.) there is a round bit at the bottom of it so it looks like an adams apple.

lily that's not too big keep up the good work lily :)

Hey! First of all, REALLY GOOD DRAWING! :)
I can't draw to save my life, so I think you did really well (:
She reminds me a bit of Bella from Twilight, but not Kristen Stewart. She kind of reminds me of what I imagined Bella would look like if she was real (:
I think the shape of her face needs to be more defined, though.
And it would be cool if you added a different emotion to her face or added some color to the drawing (:
Good job!

Awe, Lily! This is a good drawings :).

I'm just going to state some things that might help you with your drawing skills but other then that, it is brilliant!

Okay so, some things you have that are very good are the fact that you put her eyes on the middle of the face. That's a huge factor for art and I'm glad you caught it.

Alright, some things that are a little etchy is that the proportions are off.

Tips

There is a thing called the three eye rule. Usually there is about a third eyes width between the two eyes. The eyes on you character are split apart quite a bit so bring 'em in.

The face is really round in this drawing. There is some dimension but not much so make it more oval and bring it closer in around her eyes to form a cheekbone.

The eyebrows are too low down on her eyelids. Give her eyes some room and arch those eyebrows up a bit. You'll also realize that the eyebrows start earlier on the face the the eyes themselves. Pull those eyebrows closer.

The hairline is very close to her eyebrows. Bring it up and that should give her a nice forehead.

The hair in itself is very rough and quite sketchy which is alright but be careful because the hairline is all messy and almost not there. Etch it in more and create a nice, straight hairline. It will look good, trust me ^_^.

The nostrils on the nose, coming out are a little too big compared to the nose in itself. Make them smaller and the cartilidge bigger then you'll have a perfect nose for a very adorable character.

The pupils are a little different in size. Try to even 'em out so that they look more professional and blend them in around the rings. That way they will look deep and interesting.

If you're going to go deep in shading with the eyes then do so with the rest of the face. Don't fear the look of lightness and darkness as a lot of artists fear. Go really dark the churischuro (can't remember how to spell it) it till it looks light. Shading will really make this drawing come alive.

Overall

It is a very cute picture and you have some potential with this piece. Just work out the kinks cause the human face is often one of the hardest things to draw since a lot of it gives the illusion of not being as is (if that makes any sense).

Hopefully I helped and wonderful job!

Beautiful character. I love the hair. The highlights are especially well done. *here comes the crit...please, don't take it badly...I just want to point out the stuff that could be improved, it's a really good drawing, so here I go*

I draw sort of realist-form so I'm really precise about porportion and well, realistic texture, etc...

Crit geared towards drawing realism:

One: the forehead is way too short. People don't have foreheads one inch in height.
She also needs more height to the crown of her head, it looks a bit flat.
Two: Eyes should be placed halfway between the crown of the head and the chin.
Three: the right eyebrow is thicker and looks fuzzy, unlike the sleeker brow on the left.
Four: The inner corner of the eye is right up in the shadowy crevice of the bridge of the nose. Put the eyes closer together.
Five: I love the irises of her eyes. The highlight and shading is superb. The unusual pupil shape, a slit, well, people have round pupils. But the slit gives her a really cool sort of feline flare.
Six: more eyelid, we need more eyelid. Or, I mean, more visible eyelid. Her lashes are well-done, but they obscure the eyelid. Try making a little bit of a firmer line just above the ends of the lashes. ;)
Seven: Her eyes aren't quite symetric, but that actually adds more depth and sort of a realistic appearance, because most people's faces aren't perfectly symetrical.
Eight: Cheekbones! She has none. A few curved hatching lines in the placed her cheekbones should be, smudged a bit to soften the appearance will add a lot of depth and will make her face look more 3-d.
Nine: Nose is too long, too skinny, and the nostrils aren't defined. You also need more shadow in the nose-area.
ten: lips should be up higher on the chin-area, much closer to the nose.
Eleven: Good shading on the neck!

So those are my suggestions... but not everybody draws the same way, you know? The stuff I mentioned is basically the kind of thing I have a hard time with too. Symetry is a real stickler. I can't draw two of the same person, it never comes out right.

Overall: she's beautiful. Looks romantic, delicate and maybe kind of sad. I love it.
It makes me wonder who she is and what is happening to her. I'll have to read the story she's from.

;)

Okay, This Is really, really good. There are only a few things that bother me, though.

Distance of Forehead To Eyes

I don't know If you know this, but your eyes are actually on the middle of your head. Your character has a really small forehead. I suggested another person to do this - Draw and oval as your starting point. To Do the eyes, do a line in the middle of the oval, and then draw half of the eye on top, and half on bottom. This should make sure your eyes are perfectly centered.

Shading

You have practically no shading in your characters face. Our face always has light hitting it in a certain region. What you should do is pick a spot where you want the light to be hitting, maybe the nose, for example. Start with no shading in the nose, and then start shading, getting darker and darker as you move away.

Overall

This is a really awesome drawing, but if you fix those things, I'm sure It will be superb :-)
