The Kill

He stared at her. Then his eyes turned into slits.

"What makes you think I'd just let you leave?" he asked. "Just stand around and let you leave?" he asked.

Her chin went up another couple of inches.

"Well you have another thing coming if you think I'm just going to let you up and leave."

"You are." She replied jumping off the hood of the truck. "After you help me get more gas."

"Get in." He replied.

"Only if you take me to a gas station." She said crossing her arms.

"Alright. Get in." She climbed in the passenger seat and he got in the drivers seat. A little while later they were at the lake house.

"You said you'd take me to a gas station!" She growled.

"I didn't say when. You need to sleep on this first." He replied getting out of the truck and then opening her door and picking her up.

"Put me down!" She hissed.

"No." He carried her into the house and to the bedroom laying her on her side of the bed and snatching up the letter she had written. She wanted to sink into the floor as she watched him reading the letter.

He read over the letter and felt something stab him in his heart. "One way street really?" he asked. "We're married! And you were about throw all that away? Damn you if this letter wasn't written by your hormones." he growled.

"You don't love me and you know it." She yelled jumping up. "You don't want this kid. Every time you look at me it's like you have to love me. When I asked you earlier you hesitated, and you lied! I know when your lying! You didn't bother to say you loved me when you left, or even give me a kiss. YOu just flew out of here. It isn't my hormones it's true!"

"Lin...." He started.

"Don't start. I'm not oging to let you talk me into anything. I want my memory back, I just can't have it. I don't know why you look at me like something is wrong, but you do! I'm tired of it, tired of torturing you in some unknown way. I love you, wiht my whole heart. I just wish you felt the same." She said crumpling on the bed in tears.

Sterling couldn't take this, he loved her too. He couldn't tell her the truth, not yet. He sat next to the bed. "Baby I-"

"Don't you dare 'baby' me." she said, trying not to cry and laugh at same time.

"I'm sorry." he said. "I'm just... I'm not ready to be a father." he looked down. His hand reached to cover the significant swell in her belly. "I don't know how to be. But I don't want you to go."

"But you don't love me." she said it as a statement.

"I just I can't say it, I just need a little more time." he said closing his eyes. "I'll be back... If your here I'm one lucky SOB but if not... Don't expect me to forget about my kid." he said and walked out of the room.

Caralina watched his retreating back and she fell back on the bed silent sobs racking her body. She no longer wanted to leave. Even though he'd admited he couldn't say it, she still loved him more then she thought could be possible. She climbed out of the bed and walked to the bathroom pulling her clothes off and then finding one of his dirty shirts that smelled like him. She climbed under the sheets and stared at the pillow he normally slept on. She could picture his well built frame laying next to her. She longed to feel his strong arms wrapped around her holding her close, protecting her.

"I love you." She whispered softly before she closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.

He was at the shooting range, he had a loaded pistol and began target practice. He shot fast and easy, to take off his stress. He shot until the range closed, then he headed home and saw her laying in the bed all by herself. He showered, got dressed and got into bed right next to her. He put his body against her, he placed the palm of his hand against her belly and slept holding her and the baby. He allowed himself to fall into a light sleep.

"I love you." he whispered, but he knew she couldn't hear it.

Caralina woke up and started to roll over when she felt Sterling's arms around her. One rested gently on her stomach. She chocked back a sob as she thought about how she'd nearly left the night before. She carefully slipped out of the bed and to the kitchen making coffee and then some food.

"Morning." She heard Sterling say before she felt his arms slip around her waist. She leaned against his warmth and took a deep breath.

"Sorry about yesterday." She sighed.

He stared at her for a little while, then shurgged it off. "No worries." Then he walked to the fridge to get his morning OJ.

She looked at him twisting her fingers. "So your not mad?" she asked.

Sterling let out a breath and looked at the floor then his eyes met hers. "No. I'm honestly not mad." he said and took out pancake mix.

Caralina covered her mouth as she ran towards the bathroom. Sterling showed up and held her hair back for her.

"You ok?" He asked when she leaned away from teh toilet.

"I could be fine without this part." She moaned leaning against the wall. "I still say your lying about something." She said getting up and rensing her mouth out.

He just had to wait a little bit longer. "Like what? How many possible things could I be lying about? Like which side you sleep on, what we had for dinner a couple weeks ago. I'm a guy! I have no idea what the shit we did." he growled. "I'm more frusterated at myself than you, alright? Seems we both have some type of hormonal problems at this point."

Sterling waited until she was done brushing her teeth, then he slammed his mouth against hers. After a few mintues of just kissing her, he stalked off.

Caralina stood there. She was mad he had that effect on her. She crossed her arms and walked out to the kitchen as the phone rang.

"Hello?" She answered.

"Hi, Caralina, this is the Chief, is Sterling around?"

"Uh, let me see if I can find him, I'll have him call you back, ok?"

"Sure, how are things going?"

"PRetty good. Morning sickness is a pain. We're probably moving back home soon enough." She replied.

"Morning sickness? YOur pregnate?" Chief asked.

"Ya, well I'll go see if I can find him." She replied.

"You do that. And don't have him call me. Tell him he needs to get down here, now."

"Will....." The chief had hung up though.
