Eli

I confirmed to both Nikolas and Ivy that we should meet by the South gate at midday- the sun prompted me that it was half-past eight. However, Jay didn't know this, and he needed to. I bidded my two newly acquired companions, prior to making my way to the stream that Jay was sat by yesterday; I had no idea if he would be there, but I had never seen him before anywhere else.

Sure enough, by the green and browns of the stream, sat Jay. His figure reminded me of a dream I had once; the dream included Death himself. As I approached him my heart beated rapidly, and my legs wobbled slightly, and although I knew he wouldn't harm me; he didn't seem like a pointless killer- all of those were out there living in the wastes- no, he wasn't a pointless killer, but he probably was a killer; he had it in his eyes- I'd never looked into eyes like his, there were darker than night, and, frankly, they scared me. Nevertheless, I sat a few inches away from him by the stream. The stream, despite the radiation, wasn't lifeless, and I should know. It reminded myself of the sort of thing I used to spend hours upon hours searching for on distant worlds, but never found. However, this could provide vital evidence for my search; the radiation that has contaminated the stream may be the similar to the radiation that enters the land on worlds that don't have the ozone to reflect such rays from their star, and yet, here I sat, looking at an example of this where life appears to be, not thrive entirely, but be. Then he spoke.

Nikolas

He didn't have much to do in the three and a half hours the professor had given him. As a New Asian, and therefore not entirely welcomed by the general population of Fraup, Nikolas had always kept a bag packed, ready to leave if they decided to push him out. He'd always known that he'd leave the village sooner or later, there'd never really been anything for him in Europa. It had been decadent, growing fat, arrogant and greedy on decades of success. While he'd never wish such a calamity as the fallout on them, Europa - and even less Fraup - had never been a place he'd wanted to stay.

He looked at a picture of his twin sister standing next to him on a bridge on the banks of the Volga, two years earlier. After another moment of reminiscing, he slipped the photograph into a faded leather wallet.

Nikolas grabbed a coffee from one of the small shops in Fraup, then made his way to the South Gate. He still had an hour and a half to go when he arrived there. He pulled out a book, the pages yellowed and torn, some of the letters starting to disappear. It was one he'd found a month before, and he hadn't found the time to finish it yet. Ironic, given that his situation called for him to do relatively little.

Around fifteen minutes later, a trio of boys, probably closer to Ivy's age than they were to Nikolas', approached him at the gate. "What's going on, Zhdanov?" One of them sneered, "Finally leaving town like everyone wants you to?"

He gave them an uninterested look, then went back to his book, "It would seem that way."

"We're not good enough for you, huh?"

"Otyebis, asleyp yielda." Nikolas muttered, switching to his native tongue. He wasn't going to put up with these kids.

"What the hell does that mean?" The leader said, "You ought to stick to our language when you're in our town."

Nikolas glared at him, "I'm not trying to fight with you, pidar, so you can go if you've got nothing better to do. I'm out of this dump in less than two hours, so you don't have to worry about me any more."

Sorry I haven't been posting much, looks like y'all are doing fine though...

Anyways, Dean Jackson reluctantly decided to escape with the group who'd been discussing it, but while hunting for deer he fell into an irradiated stream outside of Fraup and succumbed to illness. Never found his wife. Left Fraup's military protection to the capable hands of Jay.

Apologies again, but at least a new spot's opened up for any takers.
