Heh, I just wrote smile :)

Uhh...well, I'm writing a story for school (don't hate) but I think I could make something out of it, maybe publish it if I'm lucky. I'm 13 for those who might be wondering.

So the simile is...
The boy knows a secret of his mother's that she doesn't know he knows (follow that? :))
"The guilt of me knowing her secret gnawed at me like a _____"
I wrote tapeworm to start out with, but then I realised that sounded a bit weak.

Thanks in advance,

Jonathan Lee/The Mirror.

The guilt of me knowing her secret gnawed at me like a cow to grass.
The guilt of me knowing her secret gnawed at me like a shark.
The guilt of me knowing her secret gnawed at me like acid.

The guilt in me knowing her secret gnawed at me like a rabid dog

Sorry, that is rather weak too. I can't think of anything ^_^

The guilt of me knowing her secret gnawed at me like a termite, working its way slowly from my head into my heart.

Feel free to expand whatever simile you choose and describe the ways in which the simile works {like the second part of that possibility}. ^_^

The guilt of me knowing her secret gnawed at me like a rat.
The guilt of me knowing her secret gnawed at me like a bird to a worm.
The guilt of me knowing her secret gnawed at me like a painful memory, slowly working to my head.
The guilt of me knowing her secret gnawed at me like an ex-lover, wishing it was over.

Sorry they are kind of cheesy.

The guilt of me knowing her secret gnawed at me like mold on old cheese. Slowly causing my sanity to decay into a stinky green mass...
Yes, I was just kidding ^.^

The guilt of me knowing her secret gnawed away at me like a hungry blaze tearing through my body?
I don't know. Maybe you should think about not having one (at least for now) because sometimes less is more (quite often times, actually).

• The guilt of knowing her secret gnawed at me like a flame, burning the steady wood of my confidence/trust/security away.

• The guilt of knowing her secret gnawed at me like fire, slowly burning the perfect picture of my mother I had.

• The guilt of knowing her secret gnawed at my respect for her, eating away the remains of trust I had for her.

I'm not much help :D. Good luck with your story, dear!

Maybe doing something else altogether would be better?

Meh, I'm not much help either, sorry ;)

How about something like, "...gnawed at me like a parasite." Simple and clear!

People say I love you all the time - when they say, ‘take an umbrella, it’s raining,’ or ‘hurry back,’ or even ‘watch out, you’ll break your neck.’ There are hundreds of ways of wording it - you just have to listen for it, my dear.
