The one thing (and the ONLY thing) that sucks about living here is doing laundry every Sunday. I did all kinds of stuff around the house, but laundry was Mom's job, and that was how she liked it. At least they made it easy. All we have to do is put our stuff in and press a button.

Glad you're liking the whole dorm thing! I myself have no intention on going to college, maybe for a year for a experience. But it's so expensive... I'd like to go for a year to Huntington University (my mentor would be my prof... heehee), but it is $30,000 a year... hmm... maybe I could live with his family ^_^ His daughter and I are good friends lol
But I think I'd die in a dorm... or having to share a room. I'm not much of a people person. I like my 'alone time.'
I'm told that that "independence" is over-rated. But I'm still looking forward to the dorms. Then I'll only have one roommate instead of two, and I won't be related to her!

I'm currently writing an article for JUF magazine (Jewish United Fund/Federation) about being Jewish on a University in the South. Carbondale Illinois may as well be Biloxi Mississippi for all intents and purposes on that front. It has definately been an experience.

This may seem weird, but I'd actually WANT a roommate. Just so I could feel safe if something were to happen. I mean, someone to confide in and all that sort of girly stuff. I'd get pretty lonely. Dorms are can get really nasty though...unless you go to some expensive college. You could also decorate, but you'd have to tear it all down. Do you keep the same dorm room for all four years? I wouldn't think so though, since there's probaly ones for Freshman, Sophmores, Juniors, and Seniors. Am I right? Or is it just depending on your school? I'd probably want to decorate...those bland walls could sometimes feel like a prison. I know that at this art school in Texas, you get appliances and cable for free. Along with furniture. How cool is that?! I guess you could get furniture for any school you go to, but this is like, GOOD furniture.
Dorm life is awesome. There are four dorms in this city. One is for the medical and pharmateutics (spell check) uni's, one is for the politics and economics, and the other one is for physics, mathematics, biology and the institure for computer science (thats where I study), the last dorm is HUGE and houses 2000 students that one is mostly for the private colleges from abroad (NYC, Cook's institute for technology, etc. etc.) Im in the 3rd one. there are 1000 students more or less in here. Also theres a night club funded by us and the dorm executives. (night club in a dorm, go figure )

Since my res is so small, it's mostly reserved for first-years from out of town and international students. I suppose they assume that most second-years will have found a place to live by then. I have a possibility, but not a guarantee, so I'm going to try for coming back a second year. From what I've been told, they only allow two second-years per floor, and there are only wo floors, twenty-two people per floor. When they finish it, it's going to have eighty-eight rooms. It's weird. I live IN my school. The second-years who do live here aren't in the same room as they were last year, but that doesn't mean much. It might be very different for American post-secondary schools.
Get this. My room is actually clean.
