A question

Hey there people! I have a question. I am currently writing a short story on Word 2007.
Well, when I put a comma next of the "" (I don't remember the name), when it's followed by she said or something, it says it's wrong.
Can anyone explain that to me? In what cases do we use the comma on the dialogue?
Am I wrong? Or is my Office 2007 going mad?

Hey *writewatiwant*, I don't know much about Word 2007, but these "" are quotations. I'm fairly certain your Word is going mad. You put quotation marks when you say things like: "Blah, blah, blah,"she said. You do not put "", however, if you write. "Why did she say blah, blah, blah?" He asked. No comma. Questions and exclamations don't need commas, other sentences do. Hope that helped.

I've never heard of this, but Word also has issues with -" eg. "Oh no, it's about to exp-" It's hard to demonstrate here as both opening and closing quotations look the same, but for some reason opening quotation marks always appear after a hyphen. Odd.

Just use openoffice, its free and it doesn't give you hassle like word. :/ Works better then word 2007 anyways. That failed piece of junk is about as useful as microsoft works processor.

I love Word, it always makes me laugh. Sometimes Word is just insane and you just need to ignore it, but often times it also has a point. Of course, you have to keep in mind that Word operates on strict grammar settings and it is not often happy with fiction writing.

Word hates one worded sentences, it always amuses me when I write something like: "Here." and it is all red squiggled. That's usually about the only time I run into problems with the ending punctuation marks.

I do love Word, for all it's faults. Like the time it thought my character should be starring at someone else... Oh, and the time the auto corrector changed 'God saidest' to 'God Sadist.'

Sorry I wasn't that much of a help, Word just amuses me. And, oh yeah, now I remember something actually helpful I was going to say: You can right click on the part of the page that has all of the squiggled lines and it will tell you what it doesn't like about something and will sometimes give words to correct the problem. Not all of these are correct, but it sometimes helps figure out what on earth Word is thinking.

I used to have all sorts of problems that irritated me to death when using word.

Now I use Open Office and I much prefer it. My advice would be just to download that.

I don't like Word 2007; it's too different. I just use the older, easier versions.

I loves me the Microsoft Word, though I do agree 2007 is weird. It does not like the ending with a hyphen, as Kibble pointed out.

OpenOffice? *le gasp* *hiss* I must say, I am not OO's biggest fan. I have had bad experiences with it. I generally just use mah older computer, which has an older version of Word on it. 2007 is definitely not my cup of tea. The inventor should be made to write an entire novel on it and then shot.
