***Lemme see what I can do here...hmmm...***

Enya swallowed hard. So many demons and so fast... If this kept up, they would really die...they would be killed...then...

She felt a tear run down her cheek. We would fail everyone... We have to stop this! I don't like this!

In her train thought, she hadn't noticed the spiderling creeping up on her until there was no way for it to miss an attack on the girl.

Enya blinked and saw it, saw how close it was, and screamed. The little demon reached out, stabbing at her with two of its spidery legs; one slashed her shoulder as the other clipped her cheek. She staggered back, cringing at the pain of the wounds, before casting a protective barrier around herself.

Balaes

The dark mage sized up the situation facing them. The Sigil Stone was their essential goal, but they had to get past the demons to manage that. And Balaes knew that the Kynmarcher on the second level wouldn't simply stand aside for them. It commanded a position that was, tactically, almost impregnable. There seemed to be no way around it. But that still wasn't the biggest threat - Balaes wasn't about to let something steal his magic again. The other demons didn't appear to be capable of managing such a spell, but he knew the Dremora could.

"Kill them all." It intoned in its unearthly voice. Then it reached back, gripping the claymore with one hand, and drew it in a single fluid motion, setting its point against the ground. It obviously didn't seem to think they'd be able to defeat its four subordinates.

It looked them over, "You should have turned back ear-" Balaes gestured with one hand, focusing on a spell he'd learned years before. A brutally cold breeze blew through the area, snatching away the Dremora's words, and with them, its voice.

It raised a hand to its helmet, as if confused, and then hefted its sword and pointed it at Balaes, as if in a rage. Then the other demons started closing in on them.

Cathy

These people really seemed to attract trouble, they were just too loud and very obviously getting in the way of whatever evil had taken a step into the world. Cathy hadn't yet decided how long she was going to stay with them and help them out but if these powers of darkness weren't quelled, it wouldn't just be their problem: it would destroy nature. Cathy couldn't let that happen.

"Group together," Cathy said firmly. She had no fears about commanding these strangers but did have doubts they would pay heed to her workds so she was quite surprised when they started to move in toward the young girl. Cathy started backing in that direction, glancing over her shoulder at the peculiar shield the girl had created. It gave her an idea.

The beasts were sizing them up, seemingly more intelligent than the last fray so Cathy had the time to reach Enya and the others without being attacked. She placed a hand on the girl's shield, her eyes silently seeking permission that seemed to be granted. She had the wand in her hand. It made her feel safer, convinced as she was that it had allowed her to concentrate her magic and saved her life.

"This shield that protects Enya, maybe we could use our magic to harness its strength and turn it into a frontal attack against the beasts."

(Sorry I haven't posted in the last few days. I've recently started playing Spore, and now I'm addicted to it. I'll try to pry myself away from it long enough to post something tomorrow.)

(Sorry for the wait. I'm finally able to pull myself away from the game long enough to post. Spore is still an awesome game, but now that I've made it to the center of the universe it's lost some of its luster. I still want to visit the Sol system and see Earth, though.)

"I'll help," Reon said. "I know magic, too, so I can give you a hand."

Edgar looked over his shoulder at the demons. They were beginning their advance. After casting three consecutive earth spells he didn't feel he had the energy to cast any more. He would have to fight the old fashioned way, with fangs and claws. Edgar shifted into his werewolf form and said, "Cathy, Enya, and Reon, you three stay here. The rest of us will hold back the demons until you get the spell ready."

The demons began to surround them. "Everybody, stay close!" Adrian said. They all huddled together with their backs facing each other, leaving no blind spots for the enemy to attack.

"Anyone got a plan?" Kai asked.

"I do," Adrian said. "You guys keep these demons occupied while I go up to the next level."

"There's no way you can defeat that dremora on your own, Adrian," Kai said. "It took all five of us to take down just one!"

"I never said my goal was to slay him," Adrian said. He pointed up toward the third level, where the Sigil Stone resided. "I'm going to try and slip past him to get to the Sigil Stone."

(Just so you guys know, my family and I are going to be camping on the weekends from now on until the end of summer. I doubt there will be any internet there, so I'll most likely not be posting on the weekends.)

Enya gasped when three figures were suddenly by her side, towering over her. She kept her shield up, turning it on the new arrivals...

"Enya! How long can you hold it up?" Reon called to her, bending close as Cathy put her hand against the creation.

"Uh...I don't know! Until I'm tired, I suppose!" she answered. Truth be told, her arm hurt where the spider thing had cut her...and she could feel blood trickling in thin rivulets down her skin. She didn't dare look though; she wasn't fond of blood, despite being a healer-in-training...

Kai shouted at Adrian to wait, but the boy would not listen. He swung at one demon, clipping its leg, and dove out, heading for a staircase that led up the wall. "Idiot! You'll be killed!"

He roared, following Adrian with hopes of at least preventing a dinosaur from delaying Adrian's mission. He braced himself in front of the staircase, sword in hand and ready for action.

The dremora was already waiting for Adrian as he reached the second level. The demon lifted its giant sword up, and brought it down over Adrian's head. Adrian used his shield to deflect it to one side. After their encounter with the other demon he was prepared for the strength of the attack. He retaliated by swinging his short sword at the demon's side. The dremora didn't even flinch when the blade struck the side of its armor, as if it didn't even perceive it as a threat. Soon they were locked in battle, a battle Adrian led closer and closer to the ramp leading up to the third level.

Balaes

Adrian’s plan was a foolish one, but someone had to go for the Sigil Stone, and Balaes didn’t want to be the one to try to. He felt he was close enough to the dremora exactly where he stood.
One of the dinosaur creatures was trying to edge along the walkway to flank Adrian, hissing and spluttering a little. He could see plainly that this was one of the more savage demons, not an ounce of true intelligence in its scaly body.

Balaes took advantage of the fact, sending a bolt of darkness towards it and knocking it off its feet. The creature went rolling along the catwalk, before coming to its feet again. It let out a rattling growl, then started stalking towards him.

The dark mage drew his wand with one hand, drawing with his other hand a dagger he’d taken from the prison tower. The creature jumped at him suddenly, launching itself forward from its slightly higher position. Balaes ducked, sending another pulse of dark magic at it. This one was weaker, Balaes trying to regulate his magic use, but it slowed the creature midair, enough force in it to cut its speed. Balaes was lunging forward as it landed, his dagger punching between a pair of scales and drawing blood. A moment later, the creature’s claws sunk into his arm, making him release the knife with a shout.

He backed away from it, blood soaking the cloth of his shirt as he held his wand warily, pointing it at the demon. He was going to have to rely on his magic a little more here.

But killing all the demons wasn’t even their true goal. That was the Sigil Stone, the way to it blocked by that monster of a dremora. Surely Adrian couldn’t defeat it on his own, when it had taken all four warriors to bring down a lesser one.

“Kai!” Balaes shouted, “Can you keep that thing off me for a moment? I’m going to do something about the big one!”

Without waiting for an answer, he shifted the aim of his wand to Adrian’s opponent, singing softly under his words. Shadows began to wind around the dremora, its movements becoming more sluggish.

Edgar, Adam, Ilum, Captain Matius, and Raynold all rushed in to battle as Reon and Cathy stayed behind with Enya. They all split off to fight different opponents. One of the Clannfears, the dinosaur-like creatures, began to charge Edgar head on. This demon, however, was not Edgar's target, but rather the Xivilai that summoned it.

When the Clannfear got close enough to attack, Edgar leaped up onto its back, driving it into the ground with his weight, before charging toward the Xivilai. The large demon lifted its hammer to attack, but its movements were slow making it easy for Edgar to dodge. The werewolf rolled under the swing of the demon's hammer, then leaped up to latch onto its shoulder with his teeth.

The demon flailed about, trying to pry Edgar off. But the werewolf held on tight and was not letting go anytime soon.

Adrian noticed the demon's now sluggish behaviour. Its movements had become slower, and its attacks weaker. Adrian took the chance Balaes had given him to counter. He ducked under one of the Dremora's swings and, just as his father had taught him, swung his foot into the side of the demon's leg.

The kick threw the demon off balance and hit the floor, but Adrian immediately curse himself. The dremora's armor was hard, and smashing his foot into it with nothing but a boot to protect him really hurt. Nevertheless, he limped his way up to the third level as the demon sluggishly got back to its feet.

Adam

It seemed like a fool's hope but the irony in their lives resting with the healer girl suited Adam. It was time for action. He'd spent this whole fight hanging back, nursing injury but now he was going to give it everything he had. They didn't trust him. That hadn't been said allowed but Adam felt they didn't: he was neevr placed on guard alone and they seemed to watch him, especially Sir Ilum which was a knife in Adam's gut. He respected the man but it seemed he had been warned against him, why else this curious facsination with watching him?

Demons, hah! Monsters that hadn't been seen in the years of Adam's life and now here they were crawling the land again. He drew his weapon and stabbed with his good arm, dancing the daggers once more, dancing with death.

"Too slow... oh... oh... almost but no biscuit," Adam taunted with an almost cheerful tone, fighting while he wondered what the strange woman was going to do. The demon he fought was stronger though and it broke through his already weakened guard and grabbed hold of his shirt. Adam was tossed over the thing's back and landed hard on the ground. He groaned and stared across to where he could see the shielded trio.

"Get down!" The woman's voice was sharp but neutral. Heh, I'm already down, Adam thought happily but he rolled to the side in an attempt to remove himself from the target. He was still looking back when the shield exploded in a force beam toward them. He covered his eyes with one hand and braced himself.
