***Well, I'm back. I did enjoy my trip, despite the fact I have a twisted ankle and spent one whole afternoon in First Aid (a completely separate experience) thanks to a G-Force machine.

I have no idea what's happened... Can someone tell me what's going on?***

Kai saw Balaes struggling with the chain at the top of the cage; with the man being silenced, he had no doubt why he was having trouble: the cage couldn't pick up his magic well enough.

Kai also saw Adrian fall. The leather shield was demolished, nonexsistent, and Adrian was stunned. He had collapsed under the force of the Dremora's attack. He was open for another attack, one he probably couldn't stop...one he probably couldn't survive...

Kai didn't know what he was doing; he just reacted. He rushed forth, blade firmly in hand, toward the pair. He stepped over Adrian, straddling his friend just as the Dremora swung downward, moving to crush Adrian. Kai groaned when the giant mace slammed into his sword, nearly buckling his knees as sparks flew from his blade. The Dremora snarled at him, applying steadily increasing pressure against him... If this kept up, the sword would break...

Damn...if only I knew magic! "Ivellios!" he managed to shout over his straining.

In Group A, Cathy has just defeated the Frost Atronach, Edgar is almost done with the Storm Atronach, Adam is dealing with a skamp and there are two Flame Atronachs and one skamp left.

Adam

It was proving to be a long fight against the skamp and made up of more defense than attack but Adam was slowly winning ground. Then again, he was also spending more time on the ground than on his feet. He rolled out of the way as the creature's arm jabbed toward him and he scrabbled back to his feet, leaning on his bad arm to do so. He hissed his pain and quickly stepped back out of the way of another attack.

Adam stole a moment to catch his breath and then the skamp was coming at him again but missed, its tail whipping against a tree hard. Adam took advantage of this, barreling into the creature with his dagger held firmly in front. The weight of his body pushed the smaller skamp to the ground and he stabbed down hard. He had intended to aim for the skamp's weakest parts but now that it was squirming below him, he just stabbed and stabbed wherever he could until it lay still.

(I haven't been able to post lately because I've been having to finish all my assignments. In fact, I need to get to work on one of them as soon as possible today so I can hand it in on time tomorrow. Once things start to die down a bit I'll post more often.)

Balaes

Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Kai straining against the Dremora. He focused again, sweating as he continued moving the troublesome lever gradually towards the ground. Once the cage was lowered enough, Menien rushed up one of the sides, springing off it to land on the ground.

Things were already evened once more against the Dremora, Ivellios forcing it to cease its attempt to break Kai's sword for the time being as his spear seemed to thrust continually out of nowhere.

Having caught it off-guard, the two of them had managed to push it on the defensive, at least for the time being, and it was forced to parry their desperate slashes and lunges in much the same fashion. The battle had quickly dissolved from being one of skill against brute strength to one lacking any particular level of either kind, simply a pressed attack by Ivellios and Kai.

Menien rushed to one side, scooping a sword up from the ground and quickly pivoting, attacking the demon from behind and to the left, sword stretched out as he put his weight on one leg in a duellist's lunge. "Take this, you bastard!" He yelled.

It turned with a snarl, blocking his weapon, but the distraction had been enough. Ivellios' spear punched through the gap between two plates of its armour, and it spun away, howling in rage and pain. Kai's sword chopped into its shoulder, sticking in the clavicle for a moment before he tore it free. Menien stabbed for its side again, this time hitting home. Adrian, having recovered, stabbed up at it with his own blade, the sword punching into its chest.

The weapons ripped free, leaving the demon staggering in pain. It didn't manage to recover fast enough, either, and the four warriors descended on it in a flurry of strikes. They slowly drove it down, shredding its armour, delivering multiple mortal wounds as it tried and failed to block four different directions at once.

Finally, a sword found its way through the Dremora's guard and punched through its neck. It gasped, a gurgling sound coming from its mouth as blood filled its throat, and then in slumped forward in a crash of metal, dead at last.

Adrian dropped to his knees once he was sure the demon was dead. The battle had been intense, and he desperately needed to catch his breath. He looked around at everyone else and asked, "Is everyone okay?" They all nodded. He turned next to Menien. "What about you?"

"I'm fine," the soldier said, "but we need to hurry. We must get to the top of the large tower, the Sigil Keep they call it."

"Why, what's up there?" Balaes asked, then stepped back out of surprise. His voice was back, he could speak again. It seemed that killing the demon had dispelled the curse somehow.

"It's the room that keeps the Oblivion Gate open. There's an object in there called a Sigil Stone. It focuses the fiery beam from downstairs into a power source that fuels the portal. If we remove it, then the gate will surely close."

"But how do we get up there?" Kai asked. "The door leading in that direction is locked."

Menien pointed at the dead demon. "The Keeper has the key to that door. With it, we'll be able to unlock it."

Balaes

Being able to speak again, feeling the magic flow unhindered through his body once more, was a relief for Balaes. He'd always cursed his dark heritage, had always wished it would just go away, but now he realised he needed it. It was his one reliable defence in this deadly world, and now he was worried that it would get taken from him again. He'd have to be more on his guard next time.

He retrieved the Keeper's key, slipping it inside his shirt sleeve with his wand, and then faced the others again, "Are you all alright? Because we should get moving again as soon as possible. Staying around the body of a dead demon in a realm like this...my father once warned me about it. They flock back to it like flies."

Balaes realised they might need more rest after their fight with the Dremora, especially Adrian, but they couldn't afford to wait too long.

(Good point. Sorry about that, I've been really busy with college stuff that whenever I post I only have enough energy to post for one group. Ayumi has a lot of stuff going on in her life right now, too. And the issue with piepiemann, he hasn't dropped out of the storybook like last time, his computer has a deadly virus right now so he can't even get on to YWS right now. I talked to him about half a month ago when he came back on after being gone for about two months. He said he might be able to post every once in a while when his computer would allow it, but I'm guessing he's still having problems. Well, work is starting to die down for me. Most of my assignments have been completed and handed in. All that's left is an exam in my business writing class and muscle identification test in my life drawing class, both of which are on Monday, and my final animation that's due on Friday, which is also the last day of class for me. I'll be able to post more from now on.

I'll try to finish off Group A's fight in this post, that way I can distribute everyone's experience points at the same time.)

Group A

Using all the strength he could muster, Edgar lifted the boulder with his magic and brought it toward his weakened enemy. The Storm Atronach lifted its arm to fire a bolt of electricity, but nothing happened. Edgar's attacks had weakened it to the point where it barely had enough energy left to keep itself together. With one final heave, Edgar thrust the boulder at the demon.

The impact of the large rock took out the large rock took out the last of the creature's energy. It let out a discharge of electricity before blowing apart in all different directions. Edgar dropped to his knees in exhaustion. Using a spell he had just discovered three times had taken its toll on his body. All he could do now was wait for everyone else to finish up.

Captain Matius and Raynold were busy with the last Skamp while Reon was trying his best to hold off the Flame Atronachs. He managed to get a couple of hits in, but the fiery demons were still standing. Reon was starting to feel the fatigue settling in when Sir Ro joined the fight. Reon's ice spells seemed very insignificant to the power of Ilum's magic. A single blast from the man's magic took out one of the Atronachs in one go. Just like before, the demon's flames evaporated and its body turned to a pile of ash. He blasted the second one with just as much force and took it out as well.

Once the soldiers had finished off the Skamp they made their way back to the group. "Is everyone all right?" Salvian asked. Everyone nodded, except for Adam and Edgar. The battle had tired them both out.

"I hope the others find a way to close the gate soon," Ilum said. "If this keeps up we might not make it to dawn before our stamina runs out."

"What if we were to send one more person in?" Reon asked. "That way they can find the other group and help close the gate faster."

"That's out of the question," Captain Matius said. We're barely holding the barricade as it is, we need all the man power we have. Besides, if we do send someone in the chances are by the time he finds the other group they'll have already found a way to close the gate. That is, if he doesn't get lost trying to find them."

"By the time I came through the gate they were already closing in on the enemy's headquarters," Raynold pointed out. "They're probably already inside by now. Menien was taken prisoner by those demons. If they find him along the way they'll have a little more man power to help them the rest of the way. If we're lucky, they may already be closing in on the source of the Oblivion Gate's power."

"And if we're not lucky, then what?" Adam asked.

"Then they're already dead, and we're just wasting our time here."

"Don't underestimate them, Raynold," Ilum said. "My son is in that group, he's a very good fighter. And Adrian is the son of the King's General and the Arch Mage of the Mage's Guild. Plus, I've seen how Ivellios and Balaes fought during the first wave. It'll take a lot for them to be taken down."

The Captain sighed. "Even so, they'd better find a way to close that thing soon. If another wave comes through that gate right now I'm not sure how long we can-" The ground began to shake again, a sure sign that more demons were about to emerge from the gate. Everyone drew their weapons and readied themselves for another battle. "Damn it all, here come more of those blasted creatures!"

Three demons emerged from the gate. Two of them resembled large arachnids, with eight spider legs attached to a large bulb. The top half of their bodies, however, resembled women with long gray hair. Their coarse hides were vibrant shades of black and red, and the human portions of their skin was even more gray than their hair.

The third demon stood taller than any they had encountered so far. Its skin was a very pale dark blue, almost gray, and it bore extremely toned muscles. It wore red wrist guards, a red kilt, and a metal codpiece. Other than that, it wore nothing else. Large horns grew out of the side of its head, and its hair was as black as the night sky. It had a large two-handed hammer that he held easily with one hand. All three demons had the same ghostly white pupil-less eyes.

The demons all raised their arms simultaneously, as if to cast a spell. More demons appeared in a cloud of red smoke, one for each creature. The spider women had each summoned a creature that looked like miniature versions of themselves. The larger demon summoned a pale yellow scaled creature that had the body of a velociraptor and the head of a triceratops.

Things weren't looking good.

(Now that school is dying down for most of us, especially us college folk, and summer vacation is just around the corner, we''l be able to start posting at full throttle again. I'm not sure if it's the same with colleges around th globe, but at mine each semester is exactly 4 months long. That means the two weeks of Christmas vacation becomes four weeks (or one month) long, and the two months of summer vacation become four months! I guess having to literally work our butts off in college pays off since we have longer vacations. The only thing that would make this perfect, and piss my sister completely off, is if I didn't have to get a summer job to help pay for college so I don't get stuck with huge student loans to pay off once I'm out. I hope I get an average of over 80% like last semester, if I do I'll get $2000 of scholarship money to help pay for school. If I get anything less, even if it's 79.9%, not only will I not get the scholarship, I'll lose the chance of getting it ever again.

Wow, I kinda rambled on a bit much. Sorry, it's been a long semester. You guys don't have to read all this if you don't want to. I'll post for Group B in a second.)

"We'll wait here for two minutes to catch our breath," Adrian told everyone, "then we'll move on to the Sigil Keep."

After a few minutes the group set off for their final destination in this hellish realm. Menien had picked up some armor that was scattered across the ground, obviously from previous prisoners. It wasn't much, but it would offer him at least some protection. Adrian also found another leather shield. It wasn't as good as his first one, but again, it was better than nothing.

They made their way up to the Sigil Keep, careful to make as little enemy contact as possible. The locked door led to one final series of catwalks. At the top was another door, this one leading to the uppermost level. Everyone knew what was beyond it, the Sigil Keep.

The Sigil Keep was a large room with three levels. The first level, the one they were standing on, had a large hole in the center. Coming through that hole was the fiery beam of energy they had seen when they first came in. A series of spikes jutting out from the wall, much like the spikes they had seen coming out of the ground outside, acted as a staircase to the second level which was a stone platform that followed the round room's wall. The third level and the ramp leading up to it, as gruesome as it sounds, look as though someone had skinned some giant creature, tore out its muscle tissue, and stretched it across a series of metal bars by way of hooks.

But there, floating over the edge of the third level, was the Sigil Stone. It was a spherical object, about the size of a watermelon, with a black crusty surface with cracks where orange light peeked through. As small as it was, it absorbed every last bit of fiery energy from the beam. If they were to remove it the Oblivion Gate would surely become unstable and collapse.

"There it is, the Sigil Stone," Menien said, pointing to the object.

"Let's take that thing and get out of here," Kai said. "I don't want to stay in this hellish place any longer than I have to."

"Wait," Ivellios said.

"What is it?"

"Don't you think it was a little too easy getting up here?" he asked. "I mean, this is supposed to be the enemy's headquarters, and the only encounters we've had were the Skamps outside and the demon guarding Menien's cage, and even then we fought them on our own initiative."

"He's got a point," Balaes said. "Demons are by far the craftiest of all creatures. We could be walking straight into a trap."

"Well, well. The little human figured it out" Everyone grabbed their weapons. They voice they had heard was similar to the demon from before. A Dremora came into view on the second level. It wore the same type of armor as the last one, except this time the armor set included a demonic looking helmet that covered its entire head. It carried a large claymore on its back that looked too heavy for any normal human to carry, let alone wield. It had its arms crossed over its chest as it looked down at the five warriors. "I commend you all on getting this far, but this is where your lives shall end. Nothing shall stop Lord Dagon from fulfilling his plans, not even you."

The door they had come through opened as two more demons came into the room. They had large muscles and pale blue skin. They were so tall that they had to bend over just to get through the door without hitting their heads. They both held large two-handed hammers, and they both had enough strength to hold them with one hand. They both lifted their arms and each summoned a dinosaur-like creature.

"Kill them all."

Spiderling: A smaller version of the Spider Demon. About the size of a dog.

Xivilai: A large, pale blue skinned demon with large muscles. It wears red wrist guards and a red kilt with a metal codpiece over it. It has long horns, black hair, and carries a two-handed hammer in one hand.

Clannfear: A pale yellow scaled dinosaur-like creature. It has the body of a velociraptor and the head of a triceratops.

(IMPORTANT: In the first VG Rumble, in order to defeat a boss your characters had to fight for a set amount of posts. If the battle length was 10 posts, that meant you couldn't kill the boss until everyone involved in the fight has, together, made a total of 10 posts. After the last post, I usually let someone use their Overdrive or use Unity with another character to finish the boss off. I'm going to do things a little differently this time around. Instead of having a set amount of posts we have to meet, I'm incorporating winning conditions. This means that special conditions have to be met in order to win. In this case, one of our characters has to remove the Sigil Stone in order to win. But I also put in "Defeat every enemy" as an optional condition. This means the battle can also be won if this condition is met. But, the main goal for this battle is removing the Sigil Stone, so that's what our characters will be most focused on.)

(One more thing, if someone other than Adrian takes the Sigil Stone, please end your post them moment after he takes it. I want to describe what happens when everything becomes unstable.)
