Hi everyone!! A welcome to all the new comers..!! You'll love this site and believe me this place is like a heaven for a writer... just to tell you that the main thing to do here is to be open in posting you works to help you get reviews.. And since you are going to ask for reviews, you should also give reviews.. It is not necessary that writing a review means you have write something just for the sake of it.. You had better give a quality review.. It should help the person..
In case you need any kind of help or assistance you can PM me.. I'll be glad to help you!! :)

Hey, I'm new here too. I actually joined about a month ago, but I've been so busy with school and stuff that I haven't really had a chance to come explore the site. And BrightEyedSoulSister, I have story add too :) I'll be working on a story and I'll think of a new idea and the old one gets abandoned. So I have a bunch of half-finished stories cluttering up my computer, waiting to be finished.

Hi! I'm Popa, I'm new, and I should be cleaning my room. However, I spend far too much time cowering behind my computer, rather than tackling the laundry monster on the end of my bed. (Don't worry, I set up a barrier of blankets.)
For now, I can't promise the best of writing, much less any at all, but I'm hoping that this will help me get back into the swing of things.

Hey Popa, welcome to YWS!

And don't worry, this site is all about finding your feet and improving your writing so none of us exprect the best, we're just pleasantly pleased when it turns up :) Hopefully you'll soon feel at home here and if you've got any questions or would like a review, feel free to send a PM my way.

There's also this thing called The Buddy System which you might want to check out (and that goes for other new members too. Haiiii!). It's really great for helping with the confusion of YWS and getting those first reviews.

Enjoy the site!

WELCOME EVERYONE!

And welcome to this lovely site. I'm fairly new myself, but I'd love new friends if anyone wants to be mine (sorry...that sounded extremely creepy)

I really hate reviewing. How do I critique other people's work when I'm not better than them in any way? My hands shiver when I type a review to one's work. I just feel like I'm insulting them with my critical feedback.

One tip I can give you is to think of it more as giving the writer comments. Just say what you liked and what you didn't like and then if you can, make suggestions on how they can improve it. You don''t have to be a better writerr than them too give helpful comments. Sometimes just knowing that another person didn't understand what they weere saying will help a writer to improve. It's as simple as that! And don't worry, it's something you can work on in time. There's a few really helpful articles around the site that might give you a better idea of what to do. Here's one that's particularly good:

Hi to all new comers.

I really hate reviewing. How do I critique other people's work when I'm not better than them in any way? My hands shiver when I type a review to one's work. I just feel like I'm insulting them with my critical feedback.

I understand where you are coming from with this. Critiquing is not about claiming to be better. I also am not the biggest fan of reviewing, mostly because I do not like hurting peoples feelings.

This is my own personal check list for reviewing:
Am I at all interested in what I am reading? (If the answer is no then I simply do not review.)
Am I just reiterating the mistakes someone before me has already pointed out? (I see no point in this, so I try not to do it.)
Was I polite yet honest in what I said? (A must do!)
Did I point out as many good points as possible? (What good is pointing out all the mistakes if no one points out the good stuff too?)

If I can't say at least something nice I try not to say anything. (Although, if someone uses text language for their written work I usually get rather upset and throw my checklist out the window! *I still try to be nice*)

Anyway, don't worry to much about it. If you are courteous, people around here are very friendly!

Feel free to PM me any time.

Hello to all! Welcome aboard, it's great to have you with us. :D

The whole point of YWS is to improve your writing. Any critique will do that, and if the writer feels insulted, honestly? It's their problem. The literary world is full of knock-downs and we writers have no choice but to learn to deal with it. Really, the best gift you can give a writer here is a well-rounded critique, and they're always appreciated. It's not about giving the writer an ego-boost, but rather helping them to boost their skills. Does that make sense?

Uhmm... HI?

My user name is ritehunter

I joined a few days ago and at first I got confused but now I feel more relaxed

I have been writing for a few months now but I had so many ideas before that so I wrote one of the most flexible ones

whoops... I almost gave the history on how I got here and the history on my story placement.
