Taityn Richards

Taityn Richards was a fun-loving little girl. She always had been, and always would be. Her moments of weakness were rare, and she tried to make the best of every situation. She spent a lot of time at the hospital for treatments lately, and had a lot of overnights while her mother was working due to the fact that her father was not in the picture and she needed someone to look after here during these treatments. The hospital staff had become like a second family to her.

Her treatments were separated by a couple weeks on each, but in between she often had trouble keeping things down and would spend a great deal of time in the hospital hooked up to fluids and/or a feeding tube. It was how it was, but Taityn never let anything stop her. She had asked for portable liquids so she could move around, and she had them. Though, today, she didn't have anything attached to her as she enjoyed a day off from medical turmoil.

Today she could be found wandering the halls, even though she knew this worried her mother, but she was a naturally curious child and wasn't going to waste away in a bed all day. She wore a pair of jeans and a light blue long-sleeve shirt with pink and purple hearts on the front as she walked up beside Sam and Cat walking towards the cafeteria.

"Hi Sammy! Hi Cat!" She slid her hand into Sam's as they walked, smiling up to him. Her piercing blue eyes were sparkling in the lights of the hallway.

"Whatcha doin'?"

"We're going to the cafeteria." I told Taityn. She was a cute, vibrant child that I had known for many years. Taityn was a rare person who persisted through the hardest ordeals, like a flower who was determined to stay alive through a harsh winter. I couldn't count all the times she was operated on, yet she was still as happy as ever. Taityn was one of my favorite patients.

"Would you like to come?" Cat asked. She came over to Taityn's other side and took her hand. We both leaned down so we wouldn't lift her off the ground.

Anna

I looked through the charts Emily had given me for a new patient. Her name was Sophie and she had just woken up from going into shock. She had been stabbed multiple times and was to be checked for internal bleeding. Sophie was going to need an operation to repair some organs, but that was scheduled in a few days. Right now she needed to be checked for any more damage.

Her room was on the second floor and had a nice view of the snow. Sophie was resting in her bed with her eyes closed. I gently spoke to wake her up,

"Sophie? You need wake up now. You have to do a few X-rays." Sophie mumbled and groaned, but her eyes finally opened. She looked around in alarm and tried to sit up. I gently pushed her back down on her bed.

"Where am I?" she asked. I was shocked myself because I thought she had already awoken. I smiled reassuringly to put her at ease.

"Your in the hospital, sweetie." I told her. I didn't want to tell her about being stabbed, because I was supposed to make her as comfortable as possible. No reason to bring back bad memories.

I looked at the door to see the bed was being rolled in for Sophie. She looked at it in horror.

"What's going on?"

"We're doing a few X-rays. Please try not to move." I was hooking her up to a portable IV. "Just say the word if anything hurts."

Jasper~

Jasper nodded simply right as Emma bounded in, leaping into his lap and smiling widely. "Not everyone dies, y'know." He smiled and held up Emma's hand. "See? She's alive and kicking," Emma giggled loudly and Jasper held his finger to his lips, Emma mirroring him movements. "And last year I flipped off my four-wheeler and got shot over a razor wire fence. My bone came out of the skin on my leg and I had really bad gashes everywhere." He smiled lightly, eyes on his hands as he played pattycake with Emma. "Sam Marko, the surgeon, fixed me up along with Emily, one of the doctors who helped me recooperate.

"Mhmm," was the reply from Lilly. Jasper pouted inwardly, but continued to play with Emma, who soon bounded off to find Catherine.

Catherine~

Catherine smiled down at Taityn, laughing lightly at the girl's wide smile. "Nothing really," Catherine smiled, "We were going to get some coffee from the lunchroom. Would you like to co-"

"Mama! Hey Taityn!" Emma Grace wheeled around the corner, waving wildly before jumping onto Catherine's back, her small arms latched around Cat's neck and the pink cast in plain sight. Catherine laughed lightly and turned back to Taityn, who's smile increased even more.

"-come with us," Catherine finally finished. "I'm sure that Emma's coming," she laughed lightly and spun in a circle, making Emma Grace scream in laughter.

Lilly:

"I'm Jasper by the way." The guy said. She looked back at him the into the snow.

"Lilly." She said flatly. She didn't care what he said, hospitals were horrible. nothing good came of them. "But mark my words, nothing good comes of a hospital." Least not if someone in my family is in one.

"What do you want me to mark your words on?" He said. She looked at him and laughed. SHe knew if they weren't pumping so many pain killers in her she would have winced.

"Your a jokester?" She asked.

"Can be."

"Every played a prank in the hospital?" She asked.

Taityn Richards

She giggled a bit as she kicked in the air. "Yea! I'm hungry." Even when Taityn wasn't hungry, she'd claim to be. She knew how to work adults. She got bored on her own, and had learned to connect with those older than her without a second thought.

She jumped a little and pulled her hand out of Catherine's as Emma flew onto her back. She moved a bit in front of Sam. She liked Emma a lot, but she was always very cautious around her. It wasn't her fault, she was no more hyper than any other normal six year old girl, but Taityn knew she had to be careful and protective of herself. A simple bruise could cause issues for her now--that was one thing her mother had taught her well, and she had come to understand.

"Hey Emmy!" She smiled to her, but stayed kind of pressed into Sam's side.

She scratched a little at her hospital wristband that was itching her arm a bit today, but was still smiling when she turned up to Sam, "What's fer lunch?"

"Soup." I told her.

"What kind of soup?" she asked. I shrugged.

"The hot kind." I said. This made Taityn giggle into her hand.

We finally made it over to the cafeteria where I was surprised to see not many taking their lunch break. It certainly was a busy day. Emma yanked on Cat's hand and led her to an empty table where we followed. I spotted Cara by the kitchens where she was yelling at some of the chefs. Classic Cara. She came over to our table with a pad like she was going to take our order, but instead sat down next to me.

"Who do we have here?" she asked casually.

Jonah.

I groaned a little as the alarm on the cabinet beside me beeped its monotonous, electronic beep.
Time to get back to work.
I slowly pushed off my blanket, and got to my feet. A check of my watch told me that it was just after seven.
I opened the door of the on-call room, revealing the busy corridor. People looked a bit panicky. Hmmm...I wonder why.

'Hey. What's up with everyone?' I asked another nurse.
'You don't know?' she asked. 'We're snowed in. Nobody's getting out of here tonight.'

Oh great.
This was going to be a long night.

Well, tinme to go check on some patients.
