Wow, we have idiots, and then we have idiotic assholes.
Ive read all the posts from page one, and none of you agreed with that article on HP is evil.
I dont agree either.
Its like saying Bill Gates is evil because he dominates over the Internet, and dominating should be left to the big G.
What ever.
I guess you should ban medicine too, because praying is the better method.
You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, instead, you should read every single book to see what every book is about before you even come close to judging its viability.
I have nearly three pages of quotes from this article that I could use to point out where the author has strayed from his/her saintly path into the mires of blatant misrepresentation and mistake, but I will refrain from boring you. From your replies I gather you are quite able to see the fallacies of the argument for yourselves and as there is hardly any OPPOSITION...[listens to echoes from the "Christian Defenders" bench] I wont bother to exert myself too greatly. A few points I feel compelled to mention though:
(i) The characters of the "white witch", the pet dragon, and the wise wizard became familiar figures.
BECAME. As in, they werent before. Does the name MERLIN ring a bell? He's a wise wizard, isnt he? And there was Arthur, a supposedly CHRISTIAN King (whose legend, BTW, was around in the Dark Ages and before) listening to the council of that old devil in disguise. What was he thinking?!
(ii) that the world as given to us through television seems natural, not bizarre.
Oooh, the sting of defeat. How can one combat this? NATURALLY I think that, you know, people flying on broomsticks and turning into pumpkins is real. Just because it hasnt happened to anyone *I* know...yet...doesnt make it UNTRUE. God. They might as well ban fairytales then.
Anyways, I know I've been very sarcastic, but really, I could ride an elephant through the holes in this argument. Maybe if it were constructed RATIONALLY by someone who wasnt using RELIGION for justification, I could treat it seriously. As is, I gotta say, you dont stand a snowballs chance in hell of convincing me, fella.
Bubble, you rock my world. You too, rei. I actually had this argument with a girl I sit with at lunch. She kept saying she wouldn't read Harry Pottere because it's about witches and wizards and that goes against the bible. Besides, witches are EVIL. I wanted to scream at her "The bible gives strict orders against eating shellfish too! Is that evil?? Oh, and it also says that wearing fabric made of two different kinds of thread is an 'abomination'! TAKE OFF YOUR CLOTHES!!! THEY'RE EVIL!!!"
*gasp*
Some people. She was honestly advocating depriving her children of knowledge until she deems fit. Until after they had no choice but to be like their mother. Some people...

Oh, Brightlord Tumul! How unexpected it is to see you standing there! I didn't mean to insult your stupidity. Really, it's quite spectacular and worthy of much praise. — Wit (The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson)
