If I Had Another Drink

If I had another drink,
I'd be able to get out of my chair,
Walk across the room,
And dance the night away with you,
Your hips grinding against mine,
Mindlessly dancing,
Our thoughts completely elsewhere,
And I'd finally be breaking free
From the inhibitions of my past.

If I had another drink,
I'd tell you how pretty you were
From across the room,
And how it seems impossible
That you look even better up close.
I'd pull your hips closer,
And we'd try to talk over
Thumping bass and
Synthesized vocals
About what we wanted from tonight.

If I had another drink,
I'd take you back to my room,
And see where the night takes us.
We'd find something to do:
Two drunk teens,
Both with one thing on our minds.
Whether you stay the night is up to you,
But what mattered was we got what we wanted.

If I had another drink,
I wouldn't be sitting in my room,
Alone,
Kicking myself for missed opportunities,
Wondering about everything that could have happened,

If I had another drink.

I liked your poem. It made sense and yet you didn't give too much information. That is mainly what I do. I look in the mirror and start talking and automatically I have a new poem!!! Thank you for writing this and posting it. I enjoyed reading it. Go check out my poems.....Thanks

This is awesome Flemzo. Truly awesome. Thank you for providing me with something good to read :P

My only critique is the last line of the third stanza; it doesn't fit. However, I think that if you simply erased it, everything will work well. Besides the "we both got what we wanted" is already implied by the prior line; restating it is fairly redundant (thought not totally redundant).

The repetition of "If I had another drink" ended up working really well, and the last line leaves the reader feeling the remorse and emptiness of the narrator. Plus, I think this is something that almost every guy who is 17+ can relate to.

Again, great job.
