Young Writers Society Testimonials.

My mom's been prodding me in the direction of my college's writing program for a good month now, since I might be better-suited for it (my biggest passion for the past four years has been writing). I took a look at it the other day, and glanced at the courses.

I already knew the content of the core classes.

YWS has put me through the equivalent of a two-year college certificate in the year and a half I've been here.

YWS and everyone here have helped me a lot. My grammar was pretty terrible and since English is a second language, I had a bad time putting my thoughts into words. YWS helped me through that. Plus, I understand the basics of creating writing now.
And, most of all, my writing has improved in heaps.

I came to this site when I was fourteen, I'd been writing what I thought was a great story called Tale of the Dragon Jewels and really believed it was great. No one had seriously given it any worth while criticism, other than encouraging me to carry on. I came here and found out it was terrible, worse than that it was god awful, contrived, cliche and just overly stupid. I really believed it was good and argued with people like n00b over how it was.

One of less proud achievements been on this is being 'Person Most Likely to Be Shot' I was awful. Now fast forward to hiatuses and new user I'm 20 this year and been through many of YWS's changes, both good and bad. I can certainly say it's improved me a lot. I now write poetry more and my reviewing style is less 'That's good keep writing' to explaining why it's good or why it's bad.

I'm working on a novel called Chasing Rainbows, my writing darker now.

Another thing, when I first came here storybook area was a rarely used place except by the hardcore writers like Hunter, Bobo, DQ and Jack. None of the newbies really did them. And I found them instantly enjoyable but I've improved there too. Really growing close to my characters and making them less foil.

Overall it's been an enlightening experience on YWS I've loved, I've lost, I've met new friend, made new enemies. I've began as a n00b and come up as a pretty good reviewer, writer and storybooker. And all because I arrogantly believed my story was good.

YWS has totally revealed to me a whole new world of fellow writers, all of which encourage each other to write, and for me, its a whole family. At school, I'm teased because I love to write so much and when I finish a chapter that was hard on me, nobody can celebrate with me because they don't understand. I love how everyone here understands each other and is enthisastic about each piece, no matter the style or genre they write.
