What is your favorite tense?

So, do you prefer past or present tense?

I used to write strictly in past tense. Then, I read a Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray and found that writing in past tense became extremely difficult and annoying to me. So I write in present tense now.

It seems like a lot of new books coming out are present tense. I like that. I like the sense of "it's happening right now".

What about you? What do you guys like to write in? Why?

hmmm... they are both so much fun to write with. I suppose I like past tense more, but I do try to write with presense tense too. UGH! I can't decide.>_<

I always write in the past. It's not that I'm scared of writing in the present; it's just no fun for me.

Past tense.

Depends. There are many varriables that decide on which tense to use. I favor niether.

Same here. I find no tense more appealing than the other, though I do tend to write in the past. I've never really switched to present, only by accident on occasion. I wouldn't say I FAVOR it, but I'm pretty used to it.

I used to ALWAYS use past tense, but for my horror novel, I decided to use present tense and I fell in love with it. If you are doing thrillers, sci-fi or anything with suspense, use present tense to add a sense of urgency and realism. If you are doing anything dreamy, like your classic romance and stuff, use past tense.

WARNING: Do not, I repeat, DO NOT use future tense. It sucks.

I guess it would depend on the story. I normally write in third person limited, but I have been trying to write stories in first person. I think that writing in first person is harder then writing in third person limited. For me at least I can get more detail out that way but as I write more in first person it's getting a little easier.

I usually use past tense in my writings, but I have written a few things in present tense and found them to be very good. It just depends on what kind of mood you want to use in your story.
